Revan, also called Darth Revan and the Revanchist, was a Jedi Knight and Jedi General during the Mandalorian Wars, and later the Dark Lord of the Second Sith Empire during the Jedi Civil War. Revan was said to have been a brilliant and charismatic leader who was an expert at military strategy, which helped him to become a hero of the Galactic Republic during the Mandalorian Wars when he led the Republic fleet to numerous victories. Revan ended the conflict personally, with help from General Jaxia Veers, when he killed Mandalore the Ultimate and ordered the destruction of Malachor V, after which he led the remains of the Republic fleet into the Unknown Regions to hunt down the remaining Mandalorians.
Catching the Republic off guard, Revan returned as the Dark Lord of the Sith, with his friend Malak as his apprentice, and deployed the very ships that had served the Republic against it. This ignited the Jedi Civil War, and in the process of his numerous victories he established the Second Sith Empire. For nearly three years, Revan's fleet nearly decimated that of the Republic before the Dark Lord was finally betrayed by Malak, who became the Dark Lord, and captured by the Jedi Order.
Thought by the entire galaxy to be dead due to his capture by Bastila Shan, Revan's mind was damaged and although he was alive the Jedi High Council was not able to restore his memories. Therefore, they repaired what damage they could, though they programmed a new identity into Revan that would make him loyal to the Republic. In the year that followed, Revan and a company of followers such as Bastila Shan, whom Revan eventually fell in love with, and Carth Onasi searched the galaxy for the source of Malak's strength of numbers, using ancient Rakatan star maps to learn of the existence and location of the Star Forge. Despite learning about his previous identity during this time, Revan rejected the dark side, defeated Malak and allowed for the destruction of the Star Forge, ending the war that he had begun.
One year later, Revan once again departed for the Unknown Regions. One of Revan's former masters, Kreia, believed that Revan's invasion of the galaxy had been part of a larger plan to secure the Republic from a long-hidden threat known as the "True Sith", and she suggested that Revan had departed on a solitary quest to defeat them once and for all. Despite not being heard from again, Revan's legacy did live on. One of his former students, Darth Alumnus, brought together the remnants of the Second Sith Empire and formed the Third Sith Empire, which nearly defeated the Jedi Order. Almost one century later, Carden Mannux located a holocron left behind by Revan in the Temple of the Ancients on Lehon, and he used it to help form the Dark Guardians of Lettow. Thousands of years later, Darth Bane also used the holocron and used the philosophies to help him form the Order of the Sith Lords.
