Revan, birth name unknown and known, at various times, as the Revanchist, Darth Revan, and Avner Locke, was a Jedi Master in the last days of the Old Republic. He, alongside Valenthyne Farfalla, led the Jedi campaign against Darth Ruin and his followers.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Revan—born under a different, but forgotten, name—was born and raised on Deralia, an agricultural world. He evidenced Force potential from a young age, as he had a deep connection with the animals that lived on his parents' farm. When he was eight years old, his homeworld was raided by the Sith, and his parents were slaughtered. One of the Sith Lords, sensing his Force potential, took him captive. However, he was rescued by a Jedi Master who then took him to the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine.

Jedi training[]

Revanchist

The Revanchist was a figure cloaked in mystery.

On Dantooine, Revan was trained by multiple Jedi Masters. As a teenager and young adult, he was trained by Vandar Tokare, who oversaw the youngest students at the Academy. As he grew older, he was taken to be the personal apprentice of Arren Kae, one of the Enclave's greatest Masters. Revan and Kae set about the galaxy together, and Kae showed Revan the great beauty that was in all life, even that which seemed absent of the Force. She told him the Force was truly in everything, even in the creatures that seemed to evidence no sensitivity to it.

At age twenty-seven, Revan was Knighted by the Jedi Council. He was assigned to a team that was to investigate a disturbance in the Force on the planet Cathar. When they arrived, they were horrified to find that the population of the planet had been decimated. They all received a vision of what had happened, as Mandalorians descended upon the Cathar and wiped them out. As one of the Mandalorians stood up and argued in favor of the Cathar, she was shot down by her peers. Revan, horrified, picked up the Mandalorian's helmet and donned it, and took up the name Revan.

Campaign against the Mandalorians[]

Along with his apprentice Malak, Revan began rallying Jedi support to take on the Mandalorians himself. Many of the Jedi refused to become involved in a war, especially the Council, and Revan declared them all cowards. The Republic military, however, was more than happy to support Revan's campaign. The Revanchist, as he became known, was given leadership to all Republic military and naval forces throughout the galaxy.

Revan and Malak began their campaign with a ruthless strike into Mandalorian territory, taking vengeance for the deaths of the Cathar. Though the Mandalorians were unprepared for the assault, they fought back well, and many Republic forces were defeated. This conflict caused full-out war to erupt between the Mandalorians and the Republic, a conflict that would later become known as the Mandalorian Wars.

Revan led the Republic's forces in defense of planets that had been assaulted by the Mandalorians. The Mandalorians cut an invasion path through the galaxy, killing many and taking innocents as slaves. Revan and Malak continued to strike back, along with one of Revan's most trusted Jedi peers, Meetra Surik, and his former Master Arren Kae's husband, General Yusanis. Surik's engineers created a weapon, the Mass Shadow Generator, that would defeat the Mandalorians once and for all, should they need it.

The war eventually came down to a final conflict over Malachor V, where the Mandalorians were based. Revan confronted Mandalore on his warship and dueled him. Revan struck down the Mandalorian leader there, and Surik's engineers fired the Mass Shadow Generator at Malachor V, eradicating life on the planet. Surik, stricken by the deaths she felt, accidentally cut herself off from the Force.

Turning to the Dark Side[]

With the Mandalorian Wars over, the Jedi Council called for Revan and his forces to disarm. Many of them, including Surik, agreed and returned to the Republic. However, Revan and Malak, along with many of their most loyal followers, refused and left the Republic. Revan, who believed the Republic was weak and determined to strengthen it for threats he sensed in the future, and his mind warped by the darkness of the war, gathered his followers in preparation for a new war. He declared them Sith Lords, Darth Revan and Darth Malak.

Capture and Amnesia[]

Bastila-HS

Bastila Shan, the Jedi who succeeded in capturing Revan.

The Jedi Order realized how dangerous Revan was and sought to defeat him. They sent a strike team of their best Knights, led by Bastila Shan, to capture him. Revan slaughtered many of the Knights, but when a Republic warship blasted the bridge of his cruiser, he was badly injured. Shan took Revan to the Jedi.

The Jedi were unwilling to kill an injured prisoner, but at a loss for what to do with him. They were saved from making this decision, however, when Revan awoke and did not remember anything. The Jedi eased him back into rest and ensured that his memories would not return, instead using the Force to implant him with new ones. They made him a soldier in the Republic Army, giving him the name Avner Locke, and tasked Shan with watching over him to guard against the darkness inside him from returning.

Career as a Soldier[]

Avner Locke

Avner Locke in battle.

Avner became a member of Lance Squad, an elite team of soldiers in the Republic Army. They were responsible for winning many battles against the Sith, including at Kashyyyk and Abregado-rae. Avner found that he had a strange battle precognition, and he was able to save many of his comrades' lives by pushing them out of the way of a blaster bolt, or pulling them back before they stepped on a landmine.

Over time, this led to Avner being promoted, until he was eventually the commander of Lance Squad. He led them on many successful missions against the Sith. Avner's career, however, would take a turn at the Battle of Taris. Avner was serving aboard the ship Endar Spire. The Spire was shot down over Taris. Avner and Lance Squad managed to make it to Taris' surface. Unfortunately, they had landed on the uninhabited jungle side of the planet, which was rife with dangers. Avner knew that Bastila had also landed on the planet, and he ordered his squad to search for her, knowing that she would be of great use to them in escaping Taris alive.

Escape from Taris[]

Master Revan

"Avner Locke."

Avner and his squad managed to cross through the jungle rapidly and reach Bastila's escape pod. However, when they found it, it was already empty. Soon after, they were set upon by rakghouls, a species of infectious beasts. Many of Avner's squad fell, and Avner and the remaining members of the squad—including his second-in-command, Carth Onasi—were forced to fall back.

After the rakghouls had been driven off, Avner searched the escape pod. They found signs that Bastila had put up a struggle before being captured by somebody. Avner decided that it could not have been Sith, but he did find an armor patch that indicated a Tarisian gang. He ordered his squad to head for the city side of Taris. Throughout the long trek, they faced down many swarms of rakghouls and lost many more troops. Eventually, they arrived at Taris' city with only a handful of soldiers remaining.

Avner led the troops through the under-levels of the city until they finally reached an old elevator that took them up to the mid-levels. There, they were attacked by a gang. After killing the gang members, Avner recognized the emblem on their armor as the same as the patch he'd found at Bastila's escape pod. Determined to find out what had happened, Avner told the rest of the squad to hole up in a local cantina while he and Carth investigated. They inquired in the cantina about local gangs, and were told by a Republic sympathizer to speak with the Hidden Bek gang.

Avner and Carth went to the Hidden Bek base, where they spoke with the leader of the gang, Gadon Thek. Gadon told Avner and Carth that he knew the Beks' rival gang, the Black Vulkars, had kidnapped Bastila. He told them that he would help them break into the Vulkar base, and provided them with one of his operatives, a young girl named Mission. Mission and her Wookiee companion Zaalbar led Avner and Carth back down into the under-levels, where they took a sewer access into the Vulkar base.

Behind the Scenes[]

This Revan is much the same as the canon one, but for a few details in his backstory, made to accommodate the stories set later in this alternate universe, such as the history of the Sith, as well as what happened after the death of Darth Malak.
