Darth Malus, was a female Human Sith Lord of Darth Malin's Sith Empire and Dark Brotherhood. Born Cherith Syal Fel, the descendant of Emperor Jagged Fel, daughter of Breha Ana Fel, sister to Jaina Fel, a princess of the Fel dynasty. She became the Sith apprentice of the Sith Lord Darth Malin and rose in the ranks of the Sith.

Early life[]
In 216 ABY, Cherith was aboard the Triumphant when the forces of Sith Lords Lelal Mekha and Malin attacked the vessel, killing majority of the crew as well as her Imperial Knight entourage. In the aftermath, she witnessed Malin strike down his Sith Master before extending an invitation to become his Sith apprentice. An offer, she decisively accepted.

Apprentice of the Dark Lord[]
Cherith was taken to the Temple of the Sith on Tyrus where she would learn the ways of the dark side of the Force. At some point she met Kovu Seb and the two had a mutual attraction though were off-put by rivalry. In 231 ABY, after years under the tutelage of the new Dark Lord of the Sith she was deemed worthy of the rank of Sith Lord, but had to complete one last task. Before learning what her task was Darth Malin suddenly departed Tyrus without word, leaving Cherith to doubt her future. Frustrated, she often meditated in the courtyard of the temple until one day her rage overcame her when a group of acolytes, including Kovu Seb disrupted her meditation. She assisted Seb in killing the acolytes before turning her her blade on him, but he managed to defend himself and calm her.
Shortly after the duel, Cherith went back to her meditation until she was again interrupted by the familiar presence of her Master, delighted for his return she was quickly taken aback by his vicious assault on her and they engaged in a lightsaber duel in the courtyard. Struggling with her affection for her surrogate father and her future as a Sith, she relented in her own attacks while dodging and deflecting his until she realized this was the final test of her apprenticeship: to break her attachment to the Dark Lord. With this notion, she channeled her rage and resentment at the Sith Lord into a barrage of savage strikes of her lightsaber and Force lightning, eventually managing to cut off his left hand before he threw her back with a Force push. Recovering quickly, she hesitated when he deactivated his lightsaber and smiled; on the spot he scolded her for her initial hesitation, congratulated her for observation of the lesson, and dubbed her ready to become a Lord of the Sith, upon which she took the mantle of Darth Malus.
Later that night, fueled by her newfound mantle, Cherith sought out Seb and the pair slept together and became lovers.
