Barriss Offee was a Force-sensitive Mirialan female who lived in the twilight years of the Galactic Republic. Born in 40 BBY, Offee was quickly taken in by the Jedi Order and eventually became Padawan to Jedi Master Luminara Unduli; in keeping with the tradition of their species, Unduli took her fellow Mirial native as an apprentice. Offee trained in the years preceding and during the Clone Wars, and fought notably alongside her master in both Battles of Geonosis, in the second of which she formed a firm friendship with fellow Padawan Ahsoka Tano.

Late into the conflict, Offee ascended to knighthood and began studying the ways of the Jedi healer alongside Stass Allie. She did not take an apprentice, but became famed for her skills in diplomacy. Offee remained close with her former master and her friend Tano throughout the war, until she became disillusioned with the Jedi and orchestrated a bombing of the Jedi Temple in retaliation, framing her associate Letta Turmond and later Tano for the crime. After being arrested by Tano's master Anakin Skywalker and confessing to the crime, she was dismissed from the order and taken into custody.

In 19 BBY, after the execution of Order 66 Offee escaped from her cell in the Senate building and recovered the twin red lightsabers she had stolen from Asajj Ventress from the Jedi Temple, before escaping the planet and going into hiding for several years on the ancient Sith world Ziost. Despite being tempted by the Dark Side, she remained tied to the light and kept watch on the Galactic Empire, as well as gaining an unofficial apprentice in Omidd Bas, a Bith Jedi Padawan who had survived the Great Jedi Purge. After the Battle of Yavin she and Bas made themselves known to the Alliance to Restore the Republic, and became key players in many of their battles against the Empire. Bas and Offee continued to fight together even after Yoda officially raised the former to the rank of Jedi Knight, until Bas was killed by Darth Vader when the two confronted him during an assault on the planet Malastare. After the deaths of Vader and Emperor Palpatine, Offee approached Luke Skywalker, Vader's son, about reforming the Jedi Order as part of the New Republic, but he refused.

In spite of being rendered unable to reform the ancient order, Offee formed a group known as the Grey Sentinels, made up of Jedi survivors of Order 66 and other Force-sensitives. Skywalker approved of the group, but did not become a member himself. The group was focused on recovering ancient Jedi and Sith lore to preserve within the old Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Several years after forming the Sentinels, Offee became one of the first Jedi to witness the revived Empire in the form of the First Order, and was killed in a duel with a group of Praetorian Guards after a confrontation with the Dark Side entity Snoke. Her legacy was continued by her son, Jiad Raxis, who was fathered by the former Padawan of Shaak Ti, Girrolt Raxis, who was also a member of the Rebel Alliance and the Grey Sentinels.

Personality[]

Offee was known to many as a loyal and studious Padawan to Luminara Unduli, and the two got on very well, though they never breached the teacher-student relationship like some other Jedi. They were renowned for their skills in tandem fighting and shared a close bond throughout Offee's training. As an individual, Offee was very logical and sometimes found it difficult to adjust to new and unexpected situations. She was known to be very polite and often formally introduced herself whenever she met somebody new, but became increasingly more relaxed and jovial around her friends.

Close to the end of the Clone Wars, Offee became disillusioned with the methods and messages spread by the Jedi High Council, believing it was their aggression that began the war in the first place and that they should all be imprisoned for war crimes; her feelings were echoed by many civilians who had been caught up in the war, especially on Coruscant. As part of her orchestrating of the Jedi Temple bombing, she proved to be an excellent liar, feigning grief for victims of the bombing and pretending to assist Tano in her escape from Republic security, when in reality she was leading her into a trap. She was ruthless and cunning in her methods, even going as far as killing Letta Turmond to stop her from revealing that she was the true perpetrator of the attack.

Biography[]

for training. From a young age, she showed remarkable aptitude in the Force and was selected for Padawan training, being taken in by fellow Mirialan Luminara Unduli, as per the traditions of their people within the order. They worked well together and developed a shared skill in tandem fighting, which was noted by many Jedi. During this time, Offee was known to have made friends with another Jedi, Tutso Mara, who taught her to hold a lightsaber correctly.

Unduli and Offee were usually dispatched on diplomacy missions during this time, as there was little to no conflict in the galaxy to be involved in and both proved to be very skilled in negotiation. At some point in her training, Offee and Unduli travelled to Ilum to acquire a blue lightsaber crystal for Offee to utilise, which she continued to use as the focusing lens of her weapon throughout the rest of her time with the Jedi.

On one occasion, Barriss and her master were sent to accompany Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan, Anakin Skywalker, on a mission to the planet Ansion in the midst of the Separatist Crisis. While Ansion itself did not carry much importance, if it chose to secede from the Republic and join the Confederacy of Independent Systems then many other worlds would follow. After solving several tribal disputes, the four Jedi were victorious and managed to keep Ansion as a Republic ally.

22 BBY: Battle of Geonosis and Outbreak of the Clone Wars[]

In 22 BBY, Unduli and Offee were present at a meeting between the Jedi High Council and Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, discussing the threat of a Kaminoan clone army. As Unduli was one of several Jedi advisors to the Senate assigned by the High Council, she and Offee often spent much of their time in the Galactic Senate building and the Office of the Supreme Chancellor.

It soon came to pass that Offee's contemporary Anakin Skywalker, alongside his master Obi-Wan Kenobi and Naboo Senator Padmé Amidala, had been captured in the Petranaki Arena on Geonosis to await execution. Master of the Order Mace Windu ordered for Unduli and Offee to accompany him and approximately 200 other Jedi to the desert planet to rescue them. When the Jedi made landfall on the planet, Unduli and Offee split up and snuck into the arena. At Windu's command, Offee ignited her lightsaber next to Master Agen Kolar on one of the many floors of the arena's viewing area, and thus the Battle of Geonosis began.

Offee, alongside her fellow Jedi, jumped down into the central area of the arena and began fighting against the onslaught of battle droids. At some point during the battle, Offee was ostracised from the rest of the group and forced into the tunnels surrounding the arena. Unduli, who was among the group of Jedi who survived the battle, believed her to be dead as she was not standing in the ring of Jedi survivors at the end of the arena conflict. When Grand Master Yoda arrived with gunships ready to rescue the Jedi, Offee, alongside several other Jedi who had survived the battle by hiding in tunnels, followed the gunships out of the arena and rejoined with the rest of the Jedi and her master for the continuation of the battle, which she also survived but lost her lightsaber as a result of the battle. Afterwards, the two of them returned to Coruscant.

At the end of the battle, the Clone Wars officially began, and the Jedi Order became militarised for the first time in centuries. Unduli was made a Senior General in the Grand Army of the Republic, leading the 41st Elite Corps, while Offee became a Jedi Commander.

Luminara Barriss Ilum

Luminara and Barriss defending Ilum from chameleon droids.

Several weeks after the outbreak of the war, Offee and her master travelled to Ilum again to acquire a second blue lightsaber crystal for Barriss to use in her replacement lightsaber. After constructing the blade, the duo were attacked by chameleon droids who had planted bombs in the temple. They defeated as many of the droids as possible but were unable to stop the explosives from going off; they protected themselves from the blast and the resulting debris, and meditated in wait for rescue while also holding up several large falling rocks with the Force. Shortly afterwards, they were rescued by Grand Master Yoda, who had sensed their calls for help through the Force.

At an early point in the conflict, while Unduli oversaw the protecting of Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray, Offee was dispatched on a second mission to Geonosis. Also around this point, Offee was dispatched by her master to retrieve an ancient book, and along the way survived many traps and dangerous creatures. Though she was ultimately able to retrieve the book, it crumbled into sand when she held it. Upon returning to her master to inform her that she had failed, Unduli congratulated her Padawan as she had never actually expected for her retrieve the text in the first place.

21 BBY: Brain Worms and Friendship with Ahsoka Tano[]

Unduli and Offee continued training together throughout the conflict, and they were eventually called to return to Geonosis to halt the production of a new droid factory built by Archduke Poggle the Lesser. Travelling via gunship to the planet, Offee had memorised every catacomb underneath the factory prior to the battle, as per her master's instruction. Upon arriving at the landing zone, Offee introduced herself to fellow Padawan Ahsoka Tano, who was being trained by Anakin Skywalker. Unduli and Skywalker discussed the battle plan before proceeding into action.

Ahsoka and Barriss

Unduli and Skywalker served as distractions for the Separatists, drawing out their droid armies, while Offee and Tano journeyed along the catacombs of the factory to find the command centre and blow the factory up. However, their plan was foiled when one of the Geonosians informed Poggle the Lesser that the Jedi had infiltrated the factory, and a super tank was sent to stop them. Tano was indisposed, and Offee did her best to defend against the blaster fire as the explosive grenades they had planted on the control hub were removed. Barriss then used her initiative to take over the super tank and, once Tano recovered, allowed her to jump in before they agreed to sacrifice themselves to destroy the factory. Ahsoka contacted her master to inform them of their plan, and they shot the command centre with the super tank's weapons, blowing up the factory.

Unduli presumed her Padawan to be dead, but Skywalker refused to accept Tano's demise and the two Jedi lifted rubble to find Tano and Offee still inside the super tank, unharmed; they could be found due to Tano generating a signal from a leftover electric current. Unduli congratulated her Padawan on their success, and questioned Anakin over whether he would ever be able to let his student go.

After the battle was concluded, Offee and Tano were sent to make a supply run to Dantooine via a space station close to Ord Cestus. Unbeknownst to them, Geonosian brain worms had infiltrated the medical frigate TB-73 and infected one of the clone troopers, who then infested the rest of the soldiers with the parasites to take control of the ship. After being attacked by a pair of troopers, Tano and Offee continued to investigate until they discovered that the bridge of the frigate had been overtaken by mind-controlled soldiers. The duo traversed the ship, encountering many brain-controlled troopers along the way, in an attempt to find a solution and contact Master Kit Fisto, who was in charge of the Ord Cestus station. While attempting to disable the ship's thrusters, Offee was captured and a brain worm was transferred to her, taking control of her actions. She then attacked Tano against her will and, unlike the other clones, proved to be fairly resistant to the cold which weakened the worms, likely due to her Jedi training. When Ahsoka reached the bridge, she was attacked by Offee but Barriss was overpowered by the cold filling the room. Regaining control for a moment, Offee pleaded for Tano to kill her, but the Togruta Padawan refused. Offee's brain worm attacked Ahsoka again, forcing itself from her mouth until Tano used her lightsaber to cut it out. Both Padawans eventually succumbed to the cold and collapsed in each other's arms, being rescued by Master Fisto once the ship docked with the medical station. Thanks to Tano's actions, Offee survived and made a full recovery, alongside the rest of the clone troopers.

Later in the year, both Offee and Tano, alongside Unduli, Skywalker and many other Jedi, witnessed High Council member Eeth Koth being tortured by General Grievous. The two Padawans, who were looking after Jedi Younglings at the time, exited the room when the Jedi Masters, including Luminara, began to discuss how to rescue Koth.

20 BBY: Mission to Neimoidia and Disillusionment[]

Early in 20 BBY, Offee accompanied her master to Nadiem to assist High Councillor Saesee Tiin in the conflict against the droid armies of Grievous. While Luminara evacuated a city full of civilians right in the Separatists' path, Barriss led a covert operation to Threadneedle Canyon, where she was instructed to delay the advances of the droid platoons using bombs to obstruct their path to the city. Instead, however, Barriss and her team of clones chose to play dead while the droids passed and then attacked them from behind, a strategy which proved effective. The Republic came out victorious at the end of the conflict, although General Grievous himself managed to escape.

At some point in 20 BBY, Offee completed the Trials of Knighthood and became a Jedi Knight, completing her training; however, she remained close with her former master. She chose to dedicate herself towards becoming a Jedi healer and was educated in the practice by High Councillor Stass Allie, with whom she became close friends. She did not immediately take on a Padawan of her own, likely because there were no other young Mirialan Jedi ready to be trained.

AllieStass

Late into the year, Offee was tasked with assisting High Councillor Coleman Kcaj and Masters Agen Kolar and Sora Bulq on a diplomatic mission to Neimoidia, after Nute Gunray invited them for trade negotiations, insisting that the Trade Federation was an entirely separate entity from the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Upon arrival, they were greeted by Gunray's lieutenant Rune Haako and the steward of the viceroy's palace, Seemla Wib. The four Jedi, who were unaccompanied by clones at the request of Gunray, were given a wing of the palace to spend their trip in and quickly became suspicious. They devised a plan that Kcaj and Offee would attend the negotiation talks at dinner, while Kolar and Bulq investigated the palace. However, Haako overheard them on the security system and captured the two Jedi Masters while Coleman and Barriss dined with Haako. A fight broke out between the Jedi and the Neimoidian security team assisted by battle droids, and in the confusion Offee saw Haako and Wib leaving the dining hall through a back exit. She followed them through the corridors, and overheard that the only reason the fake invitation was given out by Gunray was in retaliation to Trade Federation Senator Lott Dod being suspended from power due to his numerous traitorous dealings being uncovered by the Jedi, despite there being no hard evidence. Offee was also shocked to know that other Senators representing Separatist-aligned planets had been removed, despite not actually being members of the CIS themselves. Barriss was then discovered by a group of battle droids and, after defeating them, was approached by Wib, who promised to stop the attack if they assisted him; Wib had served Gunray for years prior to the Clone Wars and had seen how the war and the demands of Count Dooku had changed him. The steward wanted to be away from the war and asked to be put forward as replacement for Lott Dod in the Senate. Barriss agreed and explained the situation to the other Jedi, and the battle was called off. The four Jedi escaped the planet, and Wib pretended to Haako that they had been killed and their bodies were being taken off-world in order to not arouse suspicion.

Upon returning to Coruscant, Offee spoke to her former master as the three other Jedi delivered the results of the mission to the High Council. Barriss questioned Unduli on the Senate controversy, and Luminara remarked that the Jedi would not be able to interfere in government dealings, while her former apprentice remarked whether they should be allowed to. Later on, Master Kcaj visited her in her chambers to inform her that he had spoken with the Supreme Chancellor regarding Wib's senatorial nomination, which Offee was pleased about. Looking outside her window, she saw a mob of people protesting the Clone Wars, and promised to meet with them and assist them as much as possible, having grown to hate the war herself.

Lott Dod

Neimoidian Lott Dod, whom Barriss helped to regain his position in the Senate.

Having been given several days off to recover from her mission to Neimoidia, Barriss left the Jedi Temple and pulled a protestor, Letta Turmond, aside. After ensuring her that she would not kill her, they met in Turmond's apartment and discussed the Clone Wars in great detail. Offee left feeling elated, knowing that her views were shared by others, and later contacted Letta by holocommunicator to assure her that she will make things right.

In the Jedi Archives, with the help of Chief Librarian Jocasta Nu, Offee constructed an official report denouncing the suspension of Lott Dod from the Senate without evidence, and met with the Senator in his Coruscant apartments (where he had been placed under house arrest) to get his support. He agreed that in exchange for his return to power, he would accept Seemla Wib as his Junior Representative. After running the report through close friend, Pantoran Senator Chi Eekway Papanoida, under the guise that it was from an anonymous friend, Offee handed it to Stass Allie and Luminara Unduli, who were on their way to an advisory meeting with the Chancellor. They agreed to hand it to the Vice Chair, Mas Amedda, with Barriss again telling them that she did not write it.

Upon reading the report, Palpatine was pleased to have reason to reinstate Dod, as Viceroy Gunray had been pestering him over it for several weeks, and managed to win favour for the ruling in the Senate. As promised, Dod contacted Gunray to inform him that Wib would become his Junior Representative. Palpatine ordered Offee to his chambers, as he had felt through the Force that it was her work, and encouraged her to continue fighting for what she believed was right before dismissing her.

19 BBY: Jedi Temple Bombing and Arrest[]

Barriss Ahsoka

Offee next turned her attention towards getting justice for Letta Turmond and the rest of the civilians affected by the Clone Wars. Convinced that it was the Jedi who were the true perpetrators of the conflict, Offee used her connection with Turmond and nanobomb technology to orchestrate an attack on the Jedi Temple, which killed her friend Tutso Mara. She attended the funeral for the Jedi killed alongside Ahsoka Tano, and conversed with her friend afterwards on whether ignoring emotion was the right thing.

Turmond was convicted of the bombing and Tano visited her in prison; Letta pleaded that she was innocent and was

about to tell Ahsoka who was truly behind it when Barriss Force-choked her from outside the room, killing her. Tano was convicted of murdering Letta and of the bombing, and was subsequently removed from the Jedi Order and imprisoned. She managed to escape the prison and evaded clone troopers with the help of Barriss. She soon encountered Asajj Ventress, and the two formed an uneasy alliance with Offee guiding them from the Jedi Temple. It later transpired that she was leading them into a trap, and quickly departed to their location in a disguise. When Ventress left Ahsoka, she was cornered and attacked by Barriss posing as an unknown assailant, and her twin red lightsabers were stolen, which Barriss used to attack Tano to make her believe that it was Ventress that she was fighting. After the duel, Ahsoka was found by clone troopers amongst a pile of nanobombs, the technology used to blow up the temple, and was taken into custody.

As Ahsoka's Senate trial went on, her master Anakin searched for evidence that she did not commit the crime. He met with Ventress, who revealed that her lightsabers had been stolen and Ahsoka had been communicating with Offee. Skywalker met with Barriss in her chambers, and attacked her with her own lightsaber, causing her to brandish Ventress' stolen lightsabers in defence. They duelled on the roof of the Jedi Temple until Anakin overpowered her and Force pushed her into a tree, knocking the wind out of her. She was captured and taken into the trial, where she admitted, to the shock of Ahsoka, to bombing the temple because she believed the Jedi Order to be responsible for the Clone Wars. Palpatine then ordered Barriss be taken away. Ahsoka was invited back into the order but refused, citing the betrayal by her friend and nobody in the order other than her master believing her story, and turned her back on the Jedi forever.

19 BBY - 0 BBY: Escape and Inquisitorius Encounters[]

After the execution of Contingency Order 66 in 19 BBY, Offee's unmanned chamber door was unlocked by Iktotchi Jedi Knight Feris Kanavin, who was being pursued by clone troopers. They escaped the Galactic Senate building, where Offee had been imprisoned, but Kanavin was shot down by a member of the 501st Legion before they could go into hiding together. Offee recovered the Jedi's lightsaber and used the Force to cloak herself from public view for several days in one of Coruscant's secondary starports. She eventually re-emerged, having stolen a new set of clothes from a civilian, and made her way to the Jedi Temple, posing as a merchant and scavenger. Within the temple, she recovered the twin red lightsabers she had stolen from Asajj Ventress and used in her duel against Anakin Skywalker, and viewed several recordings of Jedi such as Shaak Ti and Cin Drallig being cut down by Skywalker, now the Sith Lord Darth Vader. Realising she was in danger, Offee was attacked by a clone squadron but managed to escape the temple, stowing herself away on a starship to escape the planet.

The ship, which was piloted by a pirate group known as the Purple Flame, landed on the ancient Sith world known as Ziost in the Outer Rim Territories. Upon their discovery of her hiding in their cargo compartment, she used her power in the Force to kill almost every single member of the group except one Bith, who surrendered; he explained that he was a former Jedi known as Omidd Bas, who had escaped Order 66 and become the newest member of the group after escaping Saleucami, where Stass Allie was killed. After a lengthy conversation, Offee decided to take Bas on as an unofficial apprentice; although there was some hostility between them in the beginning, through training and shared combat experiences they came to know and trust each other. They remained on Ziost for a number of years, using the ancient Sith temple there as a source of knowledge and research, while also keeping a watchful eye on the activities of the Galactic Empire in case they ever travelled to the planet; on two occasions, members of a group of Jedi hunters known as the Inquisitorius discovered Offee and her Padawan, and both times all members of the group were killed.

As Offee conducted further research into the many Dark Side holocrons present on Ziost, she began to sway towards the Dark Side of the Force, much like her disillusionment with the Jedi years earlier. Bas confronted her about this, and in a moment of anger, Barriss briefly duelled him before realising her terrible mistake and promising her apprentice that she would stop researching Sith artifacts. Barriss also found two yellow lightsaber crystals during this time, and replaced the red ones in Ventress' lightsabers that she had been using until that point with the yellow-hued ones, further reflecting her permanent change to the light.

0 BBY - 4 ABY: Rebel Alliance and Girrolt Raxis[]

After hearing of the success of the Alliance to Restore the Republic in the Battle of Yavin, Offee and Bas chose to reveal themselves to the group and travelled to their base on the planet, becoming official members and advisors to the rebel leader Mon Mothma. During this time, Barriss met Luke Skywalker, the Jedi protégé of the late Obi-Wan Kenobi, and helped him on his path to knowledge of the Light Side. She also cultivated a close friendship with fellow Order 66 survivor, and former Padawan of Master Shaak Ti, Girrolt Raxis. The relationship would later become mutually romantic.

Yoda SWSB

Yoda, Grand Master of the Jedi Order, to whom Offee apologised for committing a terrorist attack against the order years earlier.

Offee and Bas completed many missions for the Rebel Alliance, from mundane supply runs to assisting in some of their more major battles against the Empire. In 3 ABY, after Luke Skywalker discovered the presence of Jedi Grand Master Yoda on Dagobah, Omidd and Barriss made a pilgrimage to the planet to meet him. Barriss apologised profusely for her bombing of the Jedi Temple, but Yoda reassured her that her work as a Rebel Alliance member had ensured that she was forgiven in the eyes of the Force. Yoda also officially made Bas into a Jedi Knight, and commended Offee (raised to the rank of Master) for her teachings and her return to the Light Side. Later that same year, Darth Vader became aware of the duo's activities as alliance members and confronted them on Malastare. In the ensuing duel, Bas was cut down and Offee was injured, but she managed to escape back to her allies. She spent the rest of the Galactic Civil War recovering and meditating, as well as acting as a confidante and advisor to Mothma and Leia Organa, telling the latter many tales of the old Jedi Order.

4 ABY - 12 ABY: Grey Sentinels and Motherhood[]

After the defeat of the Empire at the Battle of Endor and the subsequent defeat of Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine, Barriss approached Luke about reforming the Jedi Order under the newly-formed New Republic. However, he refused, citing his own lack of knowledge about ancient Jedi teachings and the continued threat of the Empire in the Outer Rim. However, Skywalker encouraged her to gather what surviving Jedi and Force-sensitives she could, and gave her permission to form a small-scale group of her own.

This led to Offee forming and becoming the leader of the Grey Sentinels, a group devoted to the recovery of ancient Jedi and Sith teachings and artifacts. As the name suggested, the group did not see the Force as having light and dark sides, but as one entity that changed its will based on the individual. Raxis and many other Jedi, including Coleman Kcaj, who had survived the Great Jedi Purge and was serving as a senatorial advisor and diplomat, joined the group and aided it in its mission, which saw Offee visit worlds such as Ziost, Moraband, Ahch-To and Mustafar.

In late 4 ABY Offee was present on Mirial during the final burial of her late former master's remains, after they had been used for many years by the Empire to lure unsuspecting Jedi to their deaths by believing that Luminara Unduli was still alive.

Around 5 ABY, Barriss became pregnant with the child of Raxis and, through the will of the Force, gave birth to the half-human, half-Mirialan Jiad Raxis, who was trained by numerous members of the Sentinels throughout his early life, and would go on to become a leading member of the New Jedi Order upon its formation.

IMG 7234

Snoke, Supreme Leader of the First Order, who offered Barriss the chance to become his acolyte.

In 12 ABY, during a mission to the Unknown Regions to recover a set of Jedi holocrons, Offee made contact with a group known as the First Order, comprising remnants from the old Galactic Empire. She attempted to evade them at first but was eventually forced to fight and later captured, and brought onto the group's capital ship, the Supremacy. Once there, she encountered the Supreme Leader of the First Order, Snoke. Barriss believed him to be Sith at first, which enraged him greatly. Snoke offered Barriss the chance to become his Dark Side acolyte, but she refused, proclaiming that she would never again betray the Jedi and the Republic. Consequently, Snoke ordered his Elite Praetorian Guard to attack her. In a fierce and long duel, Barriss was eventually cut down by the final standing member of the guard, and her body was sent back to Coruscant as a mockery of the Jedi, although the Republic did not have an idea of who sent it at the time.

Fate and Legacy[]

Uunlike many of her Force-wielding contemporaries, Barriss managed to survive Order 66 and the ensuing Jedi Purge despite being in Republic custody for the remainder of the Clone Wars. Later in her life, Ahsoka Tano recalled that Offee was right about the Republic, but went about expressing her views the wrong way. After spending many years risking her life for the Rebel Alliance, Offee was cut down by a member of Snoke's Elite Praetorian Guard on board the Supremacy, the capital ship of the First Order, in 12 ABY. Her legacy lived on through her son with Girrolt Raxis, Jiad Raxis, as well as the continued work of the Grey Sentinels, a group which later existed as a subsidiary group of the New Jedi Order once it was formed.

Appearance and Clothing[]

Barriss Chambers

Offee in her chambers in the Jedi Temple, circa 19 BBY.

Barriss Offee was in many ways a typical Mirialan; with dark hair, piercing blue eyes, olive skin and facial tattoos along the bridge of her nose and cheeks, she was considered by many to be a beautiful woman. She was of average height and weight for a female of her species, and possessed the extreme physical dexterity common to Mirial natives.

As a Jedi, she chose to wear traditional robes accompanied by high-heeled boots and a skirt, usually alongside a blue hooded cloak with inscribed patterns and shapes. Underneath the hood, she wore a simple modest headband that held her short black hair up. She was normally only found without her cloak within the privacy of her own chambers, similar to how her master Luminara almost always wore her traditional Mirialan head garb.

Battle Proficiency, Equipment and Force Abilities[]

Like her master, Barriss Offee was trained in Form III of lightsaber combat, more commonly known as Soresu. The most defensive of the seven basic forms, it involves parrying blows rather than pressing offensives on opponents. She also showed aptitude in the more acrobat Form IV - Ataru, particularly in her battles with Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker. While under the guise of Asajj Ventress, she also proved to be proficient in Jar'kai dual-blade fencing, wielding the twin red lightsabers successfully enough to defend herself against Skywalker - one of the most accomplished lightsaber duelists of his time - for an extended period. Through this, Offee also showed aptitude in the fifth form of lightsaber combat, which offered specific training for Jar'kai-utilising Force-wielders. For most of her time as a Jedi, however, she preferred to use a single-bladed blue lightsaber of standard design. She later used Ventress' lightsabers, albeit with yellow crystals rather than red, after escaping Republic custody.

In terms of Force abilities, Barriss was known to be proficient in Force pushes, pulls and grips - the "bread and butter" of any Jedi's repertoire - but late into the Clone Wars was able to successfully Force choke Letta Turmond to the point of death from another room, showing her to be an above-average Force user in terms of strength and aptitude. While under the influences of the Geonosian brain worms, she was able to survive longer than the clones who were also infected, likely due to her Jedi training and connectivity to the Force, which has proved useful on many occasions. However, she usually opts to use her lightsaber in most combat situations, only drawing on her Force abilities when needed.

Relationships[]

Luminara Unduli[]

Luminara and Barriss

Barriss and her master on Geonosis.

Barriss Offee and Luminara Unduli were practically inseparable during their time training together; they developed an extremely close bond, to the point that they were able to fight completely in tandem with one-another, but did not extend this relationship beyond their Jedi teachings, and it is therefore difficult to assume that they considered each other close friends. They also remained in close contact after Barriss rose to knighthood. Their good working relationship proved fruitful on missions: Barriss performed any task set by Unduli to the letter, and without question. Master Unduli's orthodox teaching style was noted by Ahsoka Tano, whose own master Anakin Skywalker taught her very differently, which was shown during one of their sparring matches.

Ahsoka Tano[]

Barriss Offee was first introduced to fellow Padawan Ahsoka Tano during the Second Battle of Geonosis, in which they worked closely together to destroy a droid factory. Though initially irritated by Barriss' obedient and authoritative attitude, they grow to like and appreciate each other, especially after their incident with the brain worm parasites. They kept in close contact throughout the war and saw each other whenever possible, including sparring on several occasions. Towards the end of the war, they attended the funeral for the victims of the Jedi Temple bombing together and had a conversation afterwards. Offee then framed Tano for the bombing by killing Letta Turmond in her presence, and when Anakin Skywalker discovered this, Ahsoka felt so unbelievably betrayed that she chose to leave the Jedi Order instead of rejoin, also due to the fact that nobody trusted her within the Jedi during the trial.

Anakin Skywalker[]

Barriss Offee and Anakin Skywalker were contemporaries at the time of the First Battle of Geonosis; both Padawans and around the same age (Anakin was 1 year older than Barriss), they likely trained or went on missions together at some point. Barriss later became acquainted with him through his Padawan Ahsoka, and upon her ascension to knighthood once again became his contemporary. Anakin recognised and accepted the friendship that she and his Padawan shared. However, he became suspicious of her when Asajj Ventress mentioned her to him as somebody that Ahsoka had been communicating with, and managed to uncover her as the true perpetrator of the Jedi Temple bombing after a swift duel.

Stass Allie[]

When Barriss chose to go down the pathway of a Jedi Healer, High Councillor Stass Allie chose to assist her in her studies, becoming a close friend thereafter. They spent a lot of time together, and Allie was once asked by Offee to deliver a report to Mas Amedda, which she agreed to do.

Omidd Bas[]

Bas encountered Barriss while he was a fledgling member of the Purple Flame pirate band, and eventually Offee decided to finish his training that was cut short after Order 66. They got on well together through their shared passion for knowledge and reclaiming ancient artifacts - in her speech announcing the formation of the Grey Sentinels, Barriss thanked Bas for inspiring her to do what was right.

Girrolt Raxis[]

Girrolt and Barriss had known each other before the Clone Wars, when they were both Padawans, but lost touch during the Clone Wars. However, both managed to survive Order 66 and the ensuing Great Jedi Purge, and reunited as members of the Rebel Alliance. Their friendship eventually became romantic, and in 5 ABY Barriss gave birth to their son Jiad. After her death, Girrolt mourned her greatly but continued as a Jedi and cared for their son in her memory.

Other Jedi[]

Kit Fisto[]

Barriss Offee and Ahsoka Tano were tasked with delivering supplies to a medical station close to Ord Cestus being run by Master Kit Fisto. After being freed from the control of the Geonosian brain worms by Ahsoka and the two succumbing to the sheer cold, Fisto found them on the bridge of the medical frigate and rescued them, taking them back to the medbay of the station. Barriss thereafter made a full recovery.

Coleman Kcaj[]

Barriss Offee and Coleman Kcaj became acquainted when they went on a mission to Neimoidia together, in which they dined with Rune Haako and managed to escape a droid attack. Afterwards, Kcaj visited Offee in her chambers to inform her of Seemla Wib's senate nomination. Years later, during the era of the New Republic, Kcaj, who had survived Order 66, joined Offee's group of Grey Sentinels for a year before he was assassinated in 6 ABY.

Tutso Mara[]

Barriss Offee became acquainted with Tutso Mara during their early training, in which he taught her to hold a lightsaber correctly. They considered each other friends, and when he was killed by her attack on the Jedi Temple, she attended his joint funeral with the other dead Jedi.

Agen Kolar[]

Barriss Offee and Agen Kolar first met during the First Battle of Geonosis, in which they snuck into the Petranaki Arena on the same floor and ignited their lightsabers next to each other. They also went on a mission together to Neimoidia in 20 BBY.

Other Galactic Figures[]

Sheev Palpatine[]

Barriss Offee was commonly found in meetings with Sheev Palpatine during her time as Luminara Unduli's Padawan, as Unduli was an advisor to the Supreme Chancellor before and during the Clone Wars. They later interacted after he detected through the Force that Offee was the one who wrote the report asking for Lott Dod to be given back his role in the Senate, and encouraged her to continue following her heart, indirectly persuading her to orchestrate the Jedi Temple bombing.

Lott Dod[]

Barriss Offee first heard of Lott Dod on Neimoidia, when she overheard Rune Haako discussing his suspension from the Senate. When she returned from her mission, she met with him and asked for him to take on Seemla Wib as a Junior Representative in exchange for her helping him to get back into the Senate, which she succeeded at. Offee likely knew of Dod's dealings with the Separatists and wished to undermine the Republic as much as possible.

Letta Turmond[]

Barriss Offee saw Letta Turmond in a mob outside the Jedi Temple protesting the Clone Wars and met with her to discuss their views, discovering they shared opinions on many topics. Barriss promised to do what is right and used Letta's husband, Jackar Bowmani, to blow up the Jedi Temple using nanodroids, before killing her as she was about to reveal Offee's involvement to Ahsoka Tano.

Poggle the Lesser[]

Barriss and Ahsoka came into contact with Geonosian Archduke Poggle the Lesser during the Second Battle of Geonosis, in which he insulted them as his minions removed the bombs they had placed on the droid factory's command centre.

Seemla Wib[]

Barriss Offee encountered the steward of Viceroy Nute Gunray's palace, Seemla Wib, during a mission to Neimoidia and, after discovering that he wants the war to end and wishes to become a member of the Galactic Senate in the stead of Lott Dod, helps him in exchange for stopping the droid attack on the Jedi. She fulfilled her promise in asking Lott Dod to appoint him Junior Representative for the Trade Federation upon his return to the Senate.

Chi Eekway Papanoida[]

Barriss was known to be close friends with Chi Eekway Papanoida even before she became the Senator for Pantora, as the two were relatively close in age. Late into the Clone Wars, Offee asked her to run through her report on Lott Dod, which she told her was from an anonymous friend.

Snoke[]

After being captured by the First Order and brought onto the Supremacy, Supreme Leader Snoke offered Barriss the chance to become his Dark Side acolyte (a role that would later be taken up by Kylo Ren), though she refused, and he ordered his Elite Praetorian Guard to attack her, culminating in her death.

Mon Mothma[]

During the Galactic Civil War Offee served Mon Mothma, the leader of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, as a key advisor; she would also later advise Princess Leia Organa on matters of the Jedi. She did not continue this role when the New Republic was formed, although she kept in contact with Mothma.

Behind the Scenes[]

This version of Barriss Offee combines elements from both Canon and Legends, as long as they do not interfere with each other; for example, Barriss being born in 40 BBY aboard a starliner, becoming a Jedi Knight, training as a healer and being attacked by chameleon droids on Ilum are facts from the Legends continuity that I have carried over to my own personal version of her. However, the Legends version of her death during Order 66 does not work within Canon continuity, and so I have removed it alongside other stories which I do not believe fit the character I have crafted in this article.

The first and most major addition to her storyline that comes directly from me is her 20 BBY mission to Neimoidia, which partially explains the reasons for her orchestration of the Jedi Temple bombing. I have also added various connecting facts that were not present in Canon or Legends to connect various events; for example, I added the fact that Barriss' lightsaber was lost in the First Battle of Geonosis to give her and Luminara a reason to visit Ilum when they are attacked by droids.

Her death and fate were decided at a later date than the rest of her story, though the idea of her being a member of the Rebel Alliance and surviving Order 66 were always in my head.
