Fex M'klad, a Bothan starfighter pilot commonly referred to as the "Black Krayt", was a general officer within the Galactic Coalition as well as a member of High Command who led Battle Group Apex during the Galactic Incursion.
As one of the founding members of the Star Krayts―a squadron of mercenary pilots―he was an extremely skilled and respected pilot with a reputation for shifting the tide of entire battles. He was later contracted by the New Republic Starfighter Corps to instruct new pilots on Nakadia in classes which included students like Jessika Pava and Poe Dameron.
During the Galactic Incursion, Fex initially led the fighter element of Battle Group Apex, deploying squadrons on strategic operations and, occasionally, flying with them himself. In 28 ABY, he assumed full command over the Battle Group after the loss of his friend and superior officer―General Ordo Bisska―inheriting his place within High Command as well.
History[]
Background[]
Fex M'klad came from a long line of starfighter pilots, dating back to Kitt Ibraash―the "Feral Ace" of the New Sith Wars. Fex earned his own wings with the Corellian Resistance, flying with their small starfighter force, but his tenure with them would not last forever. In 1 BBY, he along with his uncle, Boran Thris, and friend Selip Tode decided to part ways with the resistance and instead form the Star Krayts, a starfighter squadron-for-hire.
For years, they operated across the Outer Rim, often finding work with the Rebel Alliance but carrying out false flags for the Hutts or interdiction for the Mandalorians were not uncommon. During this time, Fex stood out as an extremely skilled pilot, earning the name "Black Krayt" for his distinct jet-black starfighter and his ominous presence on the battlefield.
