The Ferricks (singular “Ferrick”) were a sentient, mammalian species from the Unknown Regions world Raptasson.

Biology and appearance[]

Ferricks had roughly humanoid configurations, with one head, two arms, and two legs each. However, their heads were marked by pronounced, hard, curving horns. Males had thick horns which curved roughly 180 degrees; females had shorter, thinner horns with a roughly 90 degree curve. Both sexes had tough skulls. Ferricks’ ears were as long as their faces were wide, jutting out sideways from their heads. They had short, trunklike snouts which often demonstrated the flehmen response when stimulated by sharp odors. Ferricks had no canine teeth, but four incisors on each jaw with a number of grinding molars behind.

All Ferricks had dark skin, usually in shades of gray and brown. Their hair was also dark, though their eyes came in many colors. Ferricks tended toward stocky builds, and a potbelly protruding noticeably beyond the pectoral muscles was a sign of health in a Ferrick; flat abdominal muscles which would signify fitness in a Human denoted malnutrition or severe illness in a Ferrick.

Ferricks had hands with one thumb and three fingers each; each finger ended in a tough, blunt nail. Their feet had four squat toes. Ferricks ate fruits and vegetables.

Female Ferricks carried their young for roughly eight standard months, and usually gave birth to one youngling at a time. Ferricks reached full physical maturity at roughly nineteen standard years of age.

Society and culture[]

Ferrick biology prohibited kissing, but nuzzling the sides of their snouts together was considered by xenosociologists to be an analogous expression of intimacy.

Both male and female Ferricks wore earrings.

Though biologically capable of sweating, Ferricks often preferred to cool off by swimming. As a result, most homes on Raptasson had pools, and most cities had communal pools for the poor.

History[]

The Ferricks evolved from grazing animals; their ancestors used their horns in competition for mates or grazing territory when food was scarce.

In the galaxy[]

The Ferrick Coval Delzashe was a Centurion of the Order of Keltrayu and something of a minor celebrity on his homeworld.
