Fanfare of The Bonny White Flag
Fanfare of The Bonny White Flag was a short orchestral Fanfare piece which was inspired by Michael Yarwood's famous anthem, The Bonny White Flag, the most popular unofficial national anthem of the Confederate States of Earth.
Written by Composer Edwin Thomas Hatton in mid 21 BBY, several months after Michael Yarwood created the song which inspired it, the Fanfare featured a short improvised orchestral segment of trumpets, violins, and other orchestral instruments, before shifting into a short version of The Bonny White Flag. Sometimes, orchestras included the opening fanfare before performing the full version of The Bonny White Flag.
The piece was popularly played as an interlude in patriotic orchestral performances. The piece was included in the patriotic songbook Patriotic Songs and Anthems of Confederate Earth.
The Galactic Empire banned the playing of the Fanfare, just like how they banned all other Confederate patriotic songs, though, as with the rest of the music they tried to ban, most Confederates continued to enjoy it regardless, they were just private about it. The Earth Empire burnt as many copies of the sheet music for the Fanfare as they could, in an attempt to stamp it out.
Edwin Thomas Hatton himself was killed in 16 BBY for having his orchestra play the piece to spite the Earth Empire when some Earth Empire officers demanded his orchestra play patriotic Imperial music for them.
By the time of the rebirth of the Confederacy in 4 ABY Hatton's Fanfare was almost a lost piece of music, and was considered by many experts to be effectively lost, however a fortunate discovery of a surviving supply of sheet music copies which were well hidden was made, copies of these well-hidden were made, ensuring the survival of the piece, Hatton's legacy would live on.
