Old Republic era

Eviar Seldec was a great Jedi Knight once too—a hero, even. Look at him now.
—Tirien Kal-Di[src]

Eviar Seldec (/ˈɛ.viɑr ˈsɛl.dɛk/) was a male Human who lived during the New Sith Wars. A one-time Jedi Knight and hero of the Republic, Seldec deserted the Jedi Order and turned to the dark side, becoming the Sith apprentice to Valin Aresh, a self-styled Dark Lord of the Sith. As Aresh's apprentice and right-hand man, Seldec served as Commander of the Dark Vanguard and Aresh's foremost military commander. Seldec was a staunch supporter of his master's Humanocentrism.

Biography[]

Fallen Knight[]

As a young man, Eviar was a friend of Ainar Zylorus, who was an Initiate around the same age. At one point early in his Knighthood, Argus Z'dar saved Eviar's life.

It was unknown when or how Aresh approached Seldec, but he successfully turned Seldec to the dark side. While Aresh taught Seldec the nature of Sith power, Seldec informed Aresh about Jedi philosophy, which enabled Aresh to refine his own outlook. Seldec became indispensable to Aresh's war effort; not only was he a more experienced commander of military forces, but he also served as the template for the Dark Vanguard, and personally trained most Vanguardians himself. He had a mutually frosty relationship with Urzelda Krosinth, though each had a degree of respect for the other's skill.

The Betrayer's Heart[]

In 1,388 BBY, Seldec led a contingent of four Vanguardians and hundreds of slaves to Toprawa in search of the Architect of Betrayal. While supervising the excavation, Seldec's forces caught four spies: Jedi Knight Gennic Forgey, Sith Lord Darth Alecto, and finally the Jedi Knight Tirien Kal-Di and his apprentice Narasi Rican. Seldec tested the Betrayer's Heart on Forgey and Kal-Di, but after Darth Alecto escaped and sabotaged the caverns' electrical supply, the Jedi escaped custody and fought their captors. Ultimately, Forgey sacrificed himself to destroy the Betrayer's Heart, triggering a cave-in. Seldec retreated rather than fight Tirien and Narasi and risk death.

Strange bedfellows[]

Seldec continued to lead his master's forces against the Jedi, though often as not Aresh himself took command from the Purity as they faced forces led by Elata Cazars, Mali Darakhan, Darth Saleej, and even the Crusader and its fleet. In late 1,387 BBY, Targere contacted Seldec with an offer from Darth Saleej: a temporary alliance to assassinate Seldec's former colleague Phnyong, now a Jedi Master and Supreme Chancellor of the Republic. Conscious of the many pressures against his master, Seldec carefully discussed the matter, ultimately persuading Aresh to agree to a meeting.

Seldec met with Targere and (to his concealed disgust) Darth Alecto. The three outlined a plan through which Saleej's assassins would assist the Dark Vanguard in infiltrating Anaxes Citadel. Seldec assigned Second Besh the command, but instructed him to send Third Aurek and Third Herf in separately, without the knowledge of Alecto's forces.

Downfall[]

Twilight of the Apprentice

Seldec dueling Kenza Rowkwani

In 1,386 BBY, Seldec engaged in a duel with the Miraluka Jedi Knight Kenza Rowkwani. Though his skill tested Rowkwani severely, she ultimately triumphed, cutting Seldec's throat on a butterfly twist.

Powers and abilities[]

Seldec was widely respected for his skill in Makashi even before his defection to Aresh's cause, and his abilities increased as he grew stronger with the dark side. He was skilled enough to test Tirien Kal-Di, though he was ultimately defeated by Kenza Rowkwani despite her use of Ataru.

Appearance and personality[]

As a young man, Seldec had brown hair and pale gray eyes; his hair went gray too with age. By the end of his life, he wore a full beard and a mustache with flared tips. He stood 1.77 meters tall and had a fit build. He carried a curved-hilt lightsaber as both a Jedi and a Sith, though with different blade colors (green and red, respectively).

Seldec's exact personality as a Jedi Knight was unknown, though Tirien Kal-Di recounted that he was considered a hero. The seeds of his downfall were likely present even during his Jedi days, however, as Aresh not only succeeded in corrupting Seldec, but also inspired (or drew out) Seldec's Humanocentrism. Seldec was genuinely loyal to his master, and was the only being Aresh considered a friend. Seldec also maintained close ties with the Dark Vanguard, whose members viewed him as their father because of their genetic link, but also genuinely respected him for his leadership. Both First Aurek and First Dorn quoted his maxims.
