Enric Styze was a human male born in 52 BBY on Balmorra. He served as a general in the Grand Army of the Republic for much of his life, commanding the 538th Elite Division during the Clone Wars.
In 22 BBY, together with a series of other top tier Republic leaders, Enric was responsible for the creation of the Victory Plan. From 22 until 18 BBY, Styze held an important position within chancellor and later emperor Palpatine's inner circle and commanded a mixed group of volunteers and Clone troopers. Enric however disappeared throughout 18 BBY.
By 2 BBY, Enric's son, Tobias Styze, served within the Galactic Empire and the later Dark Empire.
Biography[]
Early service[]
Enric was born in 52 BBY on the Republic-aligned planet on a farm on Balmorra, in the Core Worlds. Despite lacking a cohesive military or administrative background, Enric served as a general in the Balmorran Defence Force as well as the minister of Agriculture within the Balmorran government.
As time progressed, Styze became increasingly disillusioned with the Republic, as it had become apparent the government was losing its influence with Balmorra in the years leading up to the Clone Wars. Despite this, Enric went through great effort and did everything in his power to keep Balmorra from falling to the Techno Union, but while the Techno Union's influence increased, his own faded. At the start of the Clone Wars, in a desperate endeavour to maintain the planet's alignment, the Republic attempted to close the Techno Union's facilities, to no avail, and the planet finally seceded.
With the Techno Union's take-over, Enric was ousted from both the Defence Force and the Balmorran government, and that very same day he became a fugitive to the newly-instituted separatist parliament. Enric fled Balmorra on a Balmorran hauler and made his way to Kuat and rapidly enlisted with the Grand Army of the Republic, using his previous position of general to attain a high rank within the Grand Army.
Republic service[]
Despite his previous rank, Enric's position of commander was one of great controversy, especially upon being assigned command of the 538th Elite Division, a unit of elite Clone Troopers. It was often believed his position within the Grand Army of the Republic was achieved through great manipulation, using his previous rank to a lesser extent and was often attributed to a mysterious benefactor instead. His position was ultimately cemented when he was assigned a command position within the Twelfth Army along with his unit.
During his service in the Grand Army of the Republic, Styze greatly relied on a mix of clone troopers and Balmorran volunteers.
The Victory Plan[]
In 22 BBY, Enric joined forces with Fleet Admiral Erruouf Azimuth and a series of other top tier Republic personnel for the creation of the Victory Plan. The plan was to include top Republic personnel from several theaters in order to bring a swift end to the Clone Wars. While Styze and Azimuth were assigned to different Sector Armies, for this venture they were permitted to work together. At this time, neither army had been fully engaged yet, unlike by the time of execution in 19 BBY.
Despite earlier problems, the Victory Plan was still set to be hatched as the various preceding incidents, including the unexpected death of Cal Kyro, could not sway top Republic leadership. Instead, it was Styze himself who lobbied to have the plan shelved, two weeks before intended execution. Despite controversy, the Victory Plan would eventually not bear fruit.
Styze had in fact been acting under orders of the chancellor, who pushed to have the plan shelved and used his influence to enforce his will. While the Victory Plan was projected a Republic victory, the expected casualty rate threatened Palpatine's ambitions.
Under the Empire[]
When Order 66 came down and the Republic became the Galactic Empire, Styze and his 538th Elite Division were fighting a devastating battle on Ord Terath, a factory world of the Confederacy.
While no Jedi served with him, Styze as well had directly received the order to execute the Jedi. He rapidly learned of the Great Jedi Purge as well and grew hatred towards the Empire. He developed a personal grudge against Palpatine, who he had previously seen as a friend but quickly realized this sentiment wasn't shared.
The aftermath of Order 66 greatly divided his troops, while most of the Balmorran militia remained fiercely loyal to Styze, his clone forces were set adrift and when he defected, his fate was all but sealed as a third of his unit was killed to infighting as a result of differing loyalties. Following the incident, Styze went into hiding.
In the early years of the Rebellion and the tail end of the Dark Times, Styze resurfaced as an opponent to the Empire, briefly working together with Adrian Varino I.
For several reasons, Styze's clone troops continued to use clone trooper armour despite public opinion, although by the time of his return, only a handful of his clones had survived.
His son, Tobias Styze, served the Dark Empire in 10 ABY.
Personality and traits[]
Enric Styze was often perceived as a disciplined man, rarely tolerating failure and always delivering just punishment. Despite this, Styze did not believe in executions regardless of calamity. As a commander he was often harsh but never unrealistic, he was well aware of what he could and couldn't do, and for his troops much the same way.
Styze was considered a realist, and often had a negative view upon those whom he perceived to live in a "sandbox world", as he called it. People who believed actions would have no repercussions are typically the people he'd perceive to live in a "sandbox world".
