Emperor's Voice was a title used by high-ranking Dark Side Adepts that served Emperor Palpatine during the times of the Galactic Empire. It was one of the higher positions attainable by Adepts, and granted about the same level of authority as those who held the titles of Emperor's Reach and Emperor's Eyes. The group was occasionally referred to as the "Seven Dark Jedi" as only seven individuals held the rank in the history of the Empire. Each member became, essentially, a manifestation of the Emperor's will, carrying out personal missions on his behalf.

Organization and philosophy[]

A team of seven Dark Jedi was a concept that Palpatine wrote about in his work, including the Dark Side Compendium. He envisioned a team of dark side warriors that would carry out his will and be bound to him through the dark side of the Force. The Galactic Empire already had hundreds, if not thousands, of Dark Side Adepts serving it in several organizations. However, the Emperor selected the some of the most resourceful, intelligent, and powerful of his servants to create a new dark side cadre. But unlike the other groups, the seven Dark Jedi were not just assassins or spies. Due to the dark side empowerment ritual each of them underwent, they were connected to Palpatine through the Force and had enhanced abilities, which augmented their other skills. Palpatine himself viewed the group as manifestations of his will, and replaced each member's name with a new title, so that they represented dark side emotions: Envy, Wrath, Pride, Gluttony, Lust, Sloth, and Greed.

Each member was devoted to the Emperor himself, not the Empire, and carried out his will. But unlike other groups under his command, the seven Emperor's Voices were already knowledgeable in other fields than fighting. All of them were also aware that of Palpatine's true plans: eventually getting rid of the Imperial bureaucracy and the Imperial Military and ruling the universe solely using the dark side of the Force. The Emperor intended for them to form his "elite" when he reached that point, being his tools for maintaining his grip over the galaxy.

History[]

Formation[]

Palpatine, as Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious, had relied on dark side-using agents to carry out his bidding prior to and during his years as the Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic. The most notable of these was Darth Maul. Shortly after establishing the Galactic Empire in 19 BBY, self-proclaimed Galactic Emperor Palpatine had established a number of dark side organizations that could now operate with the backing of the authorities. The Emperor's Hands were formed as a cadre of the Emperor's personal elite assassins while a special branch of Imperial Intelligence was founded to hunt down remaining Jedi. However, none of the members of those groups were aware of Palpatine's full plans for the galaxy, and although they served his authoritarian government, both groups still had their limitations; both political and in terms of dark side power.

A high level of Dark Side Adepts was formed by the Emperor to act as his personal agents. They were somewhat similar to the Hands, but they were not just assassins, nor were they being manipulated (each Hand was led to believe that they were the only one). Those who held the title of Emperor's Voice—the name given to this high level—were not selected purely based on combat ability and physical strength. Palpatine intended for the new organization to be the Hands, Prophets of the Dark Side, Force Adepts, and Inquisitors all rolled into one. Emperor's Voices were bound to their master through the Force, as Palpatine performed a special ritual that empowered them with the dark side (enhancing their abilities). He also replaced their given names and instead assigned them new titles to use, naming them after dark side emotions: Envy, Wrath, Pride, Gluttony, Lust, Sloth, and Greed.
