Elrabin Ralvik was a male Human-Kiffar hybrid Jedi Master of the New Jedi Order. The Order's designated "hit man" against Jedi who were falling to the dark side, he grew weary of his life and defected to the Golden Empire, becoming a Centurion.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Elrabin was found on the doorstep of a Dim-U monastery on Tatooine in 116 ABY. His parents had died in the desert, pleading with a group of Tusken Raiders to care for him. The Raiders applied Elrabin's tattoos, crudely mimicking his parents' Kiffar markings, but eventually left him with the Dim-U to be with "his" people.

The monks, deducing that he was about four years old but unable to get anything else out of him, took him in. The calm quiet of the monastery was somewhat at odds with Elrabin's explorer nature, though he never defied his adoptive "parents". Elrabin heard of the Jedi before they heard of him, but his tutors had little knowledge of the Order to offer him. In 122 ABY, however, a Jedi Knight came to the Temple seeking help, and Elrabin was allowed to accompany him back to Coruscant.

The influence of the monks and their tranquil lifestyle had prepared Elrabin for the meditative, peaceful ways of the Jedi. In short order he became the Padawan of Jedi Master Jazz Kavee. Elrabin had some experience with acrobatics from his time on Tatooine, and he took naturally to Ataru.

The corruption of the Jedi[]

The Sith-Imperial War erupted in 127 ABY, pitting the Jedi against the One Sith and Roan Fel's Galactic Empire. Elrabin trained until 128 ABY, when he was given an emergency promotion to the rank of Jedi Knight at the age of sixteen. A year later, a sharply divided Jedi Council made the decision to promote Elrabin to the rank of Jedi Master.

Though initially honored and humbled, Elrabin quickly deduced that his promotion had little to do with his mastery of the Force, or even himself. Members of the Jedi Council, impressed with Elrabin's fighting skills, intended to employ him against falling Jedi within the Order itself, rooting them out before they could join the Sith. Elrabin's promotion was not so much recognizing his abilities as it was providing him the authority he needed to arrest or execute fellow Jedi. Over time, Elrabin began to view the promotion as a bribe of sorts as well.

Despite his misgivings and the disapproval of many of his colleagues, Elrabin took up the role of the Jedi Order's "hatchet man", seeking out Jedi who were turning to the dark side and attempting to draw them back to the light; if they would not give up their ways, he killed them. Elrabin also took part in the fight against the Sith.

The Massacre at Ossus devastated and scattered the Jedi Order, and Elrabin traveled from enclave to enclave, trying to protect fellow Jedi from the Sith. He visited the Hidden Temple on Taivas from time to time, but even though many of the Council members who had pressed for his sham promotion to Jedi Master were dead, Elrabin still preferred to avoid them.

Souv and the Smuggler's Moon[]

In 139 ABY, Elrabin journeyed to Nar Shaddaa to relieve the Jedi academy there. He met its Arkanian master, Souv Tanake, and learned of her alliance with the Merquise Syndicate. Having been conditioned to treat any departure from traditional Jedi orthodoxy with suspicion, Elrabin was initially unsettled by Souv's Gray Jedi leanings, particularly her tolerance of Sith Lady Alluria Quinn. However, weary of executing the Council's commands (and other Jedi), he elected to give Souv's method a chance.

Over the following years, Elrabin and Souv became close, often fighting side-by-side against the various threats the Jedi faced, including survivors of the One Sith. Elrabin accompanied Souv to assist Jedi Master Jextar Cyern-Star in a fight against a Sith faction; though he had growing distrust of any Jedi leadership, Elrabin fought beside them. He was the only one to emerge unscatched; Jex lost a few fingers, and Souv was blinded with a lightsaber blow across her eyes. Surprised by how much Souv's injury pained him, Elrabin helped her recover on Nar Shaddaa.

Defection[]

Elrabin's feelings became more complicated every day. He had come to loathe his role as the Jedi Order's assassin, and his growing interest in Souv drew him further away from combat. However, he could sense that Souv was keeping something from him, and she seemed oddly protective of Nagarian Sakaros, the son of Reiko Kaytana and a playmate of Azalyn Kass`l, daughter of Souv's former apprentice Odala.

Sensing Elrabin's curiosity was coming to a head, Souv finally arranged for him to learn the truth. In 146 ABY, a deeply startled Elrabin was introduced to Rin Sakaros, Queen of the Golden Empire and Nagarian's older sister. Souv had been her covert ally for years, keeping the Jedi from learning about her. Though some of Rin's advisors feared that bringing Elrabin into the circle of trust would endanger the Empire, Rin offered him the chance to join her own group of Force-users, the Order of Keltrayu.

A combination of intrigue, distaste for anything having to do with the Jedi, and desire to share Souv's vision of the future led Elrabin to accept the offer. He journeyed to the Sith Star, where he spent three years training with the Order. His combat and Force skills already exceeded the Order's minimum requirement for its Centurions; instead, his training focused on un-learning the ways of the Jedi and adopting the mindset of the Order, as well as becoming proficient in Sith and Orhyo. Despite the challenges he faced, Elrabin found himself truly content for the first time in a long time; he was respected as a warrior, but no longer called upon to be an executioner.

The Nightmare War[]

Elrabin received his Centurion's commission in 149 ABY only weeks before the Nightmare War erupted. He participated in the Mission to Awpierh, where he and Luna Raquelsei dueled the insane Dark Jedi Karshi Saan. Though he initially tried to take the Iktotchi alive, Elrabin did not hesitate to seize the opening when it was presented and decapitated Saan himself. The two Centurions rescued Malyri and Kylaea Porén, but were too late to save Nairasho.

As the war ground on and brutality increased on all sides, Rin began to consider the use of more extreme measures. She was aware Elrabin, as a Force-using part-Kiffar, had the gift of psychometry, but hesitated to employ it on any relic of the dead Dark Jedi, as each had been psychopathic and she feared their memories might draw Elrabin into insanity. When Desha Marad modified the Sickness and got Te`net Organi and Rayne Turgachia infected, however, Rin's hesitation came to an end. She had Elrabin hold the severed head of Karshi Saan, looking back through his memories while Rin read his mind to find the location of Kizav. Overwhelmed by the Dark Jedi's insanity, Elrabin passed out, and Rin had him locked in one of the Sith Star's medbays.

Under the ministrations of medical personnel and the telepathic guidance of Centurions, Elrabin slowly recovered. When the Sith Star was boarded during the Battle of Dolomir, Rin ordered him released from medical confinement to fight. A much-recovered Elrabin slew more than one Vyrak clone himself.

The voice of experience[]

Not long after the war ended, Eskol Kaartinen, Prefect of the Order of Keltrayu, approached Elrabin with a new assignment. Respecting Elrabin's combat experience, especially against other Force-using enemies, he installed the hybrid Centurion as a Praetor-Instructor of the Order. Elrabin relished his new post, enjoying the time he could spend with children and away from war. After his father Tekk Draykhan was killed in the Battle of the Sith Star, an angry Jextar Star abandoned Souv in the Empire and transmitted her forged resignation to the Jedi Council. Though incensed at the betrayal, Souv ultimately elected to stay in the Empire with Elrabin, under Rin's protection.

In 151 ABY, Elrabin approached Rin and asked her permission to marry Souv, to which Rin delightedly agreed. Elrabin also helped coach Vos'elk'eetash on her attempts to incorporate her shoto into a modified form of Jar'Kai.

Powers and abilities[]

Like other "second career" Centurions such as Axelia Solios and Aria Nikina, Elrabin did not have the same extensive mastery of telekinesis and telepathy common to Centurions whose only training was from the Order. However, his time with the Jedi armed him with extensive combat experience; he had fought more Force-wielding enemies than anyone else in the Golden Empire apart from Rin and Tariun Sakaros. His telepathic defenses were strong enough to overcome Karshi Saan's attempts at Force insanity after a moment of struggle.

Kieran Sapphire considered him the greatest master of Ataru in the Order of Keltrayu; though Te`net Organi could match him for technical ability, Elrabin's greater strength and height allowed him to prevail. He was also a master of Jar'Kai on par with Aria Nikina.

Appearance and personality[]

Elrabin was 1.85 meters (6'1") tall and had green eyes and dark tan skin. He wore his shoulder-length black hair in dreadlocks, and had tattoos on his face and body. He preferred to wear loose, comfortable clothing rather than the uniforms of either Order to which he belonged. As a Jedi he wielded a pair of blue-bladed lightsabers; when he joined the Order of Keltrayu, he gave up his Jedi weapons and made a new pair of lightsabers with green blades.

Peaceful and calm by nature, Elrabin disliked violence and combat, for all his proficiency at it. As a Jedi, he began to feel increasingly used and manipulated by the Jedi Council when he was sent to eliminate corrupted Jedi. This created a coldly focused front which he adopted in stressful situations and was greatly removed from his normal personality. Joining the Order of Keltrayu relieved Elrabin of much of his regret and guilt, as he felt he could dedicate his talents to better pursuits and that the Order, despite its focus on warrior skill, nevertheless protected its own and never endangered Centurions needlessly.
