The Economic Duchy of Fhrenia, also known as the Fhrenic Industries Nation or, rarely, as the Bismolte Duchy, was an interstellar government based on the Fhrenic Industries headquarters of Fhrenia, a company which was effectively the personal property of the planet's ruling Ethereal noble family, House Bismolte. The Economic Duchy was a member of the Diet of the Ethereal Demesnes as an Oligarchic Demesne, where it held the distinction of being one of a few noble-ruled but economic-focused Demesnes.
Fhrenia was initially ruled out for colonization by the classical Ethereal Empire, as the entire star system was very geologically active. Fhrenia, in particular, was regularly pelted with meteorites and rogue asteroids, not to mention significant volcanic activity all over the planet's surface. However, by the time the Diet of the Ethereal Demesnes finally investigated the Fhrenia system to check on its ongoing situation, they found that it had calmed massively. Over the course of the previous several millennia, the system had finally finished coming into a sort of gravitational balance, and was no longer consistently pulling space rocks to every planet's surface. Fhrenia itself was, evidently partly as a result, significantly less volcanically active.
The matriarch of House Bismolte at the time, Aliandis Bismolte, investigated the system herself, even going so far as to land on the planet's surface. Here, without even needing to utilize equipment, she and her crew discovered the planet was almost unbelievably rich in semi-precious stones such as jade and onyx. Subsequently, the Bismolte family kept this discovery a secret while requesting a colonial charter for the system from the Diet. The Diet, confused as to why the Bismoltes would want such an apparently unpleasant planet, decided to grant the request. Soon after, the Bismoltes founded Fhrenic Industries and established the first permanent settlements on the planet, rapidly working to safeguard against further asteroid impacts and dangerous geological activity while trying not to totally prevent the process that was about to make them very wealthy; becoming one of the Demesnes', and even the galaxy's, most reliable sources of pure semi-precious minerals.
By the outbreak of the Galactic Civil War, Fhrenic jade in particular was considered a sign of great prestigious wealth among the people of the Demesnes, and, along with other Fhrenic mineral products, was among the more well-known luxury exports of the Demesnes to the larger galaxy. The Hutt Groda Kovajii Klarr, whose personal residence and resort planet Nal Bunko was located far from the Demesnes, highly prized his collection of rare Jade Animal carvings, comprising a majority of a famous set created by the legendary ancient Fhrenic gemcutter, jeweler, and sculptor Parandon Veskalatte. This situation of acclaim gave Fhrenia outsize influence, but also made them a repeated target of attempts at military or economic conquest.
