Project Cruentus

Eborax, more commonly known as Death's Knock, was a disease prevalent across the galaxy during the Cruentusian War. Spread by a virus, it had the ability to release hormones into the victim's bloodstream that confused bodily antigens and made them destroy each other, effectively causing the immune system of the host to self-destruct. Next, the virus would target synapses all over the body, severely hindering the motor functions of the patient.

Meanwhile, the virus would rapidly destroy blood cells, making the victim feel immensely tired and weak, with many sufferers of the virus dying of exhaustion before it could finally attack the brain and other vital organs, resulting in a slow, agonizing death. In numerous cases, it caused paralysis before death.

The mortality rate of Eborax was 30%, but only 35% of the victims recovered sufficiently, while the rest of the survivors, approximately 35% of the infected, were plagued with paralysis or long-term illness. It was the Human-specific strand of the disease that spread to the Rakatans, crippling them and bringing about the final collapse of the Infinite Empire.

Later in the war, the Death's Tongue Militia would use eborax in a variety of biological weapons, and several newer strains would be developed by DTM's chief scientist, Krennel.

Behind the scenes[]

Eborax was originally named "Taedium Detrimentum,"[1] which was derived two Latin words; Taedium, which translated as a weariness or loathing of life,[2] and Detrimentum, which translated as injury or damage.[3] Eborax is a combination of the words Ebola and Anthrax.
