The Djinnosh (/ˈd͡ʒɪn.ɑ:ʃ/) were a technologically primitive people native to Geruett in the Unknown Regions. The species consisted of five tribes that all aligned themselves with an element (air, earth, fire, water and darkness). Each tribe had a specialization of some type. They made their homes by the few scattered sources of water on Geruett.

The government was decided by a council, one member from each tribe speaking for its people. This was another way for the people to trade and barter between each other or resolve conflicts as well.

Biology and appearance[]

Djinnosh were humanoid in appearance. The biological differences between them and actual Humans took place mostly under the skin. They possessed dense bones that allowed them to be able to take more damage or strike things harder. They also had extra muscles that allowed for greater strength and flexibility. This also aided them in having faster reflexes. The walls of their lungs could easily expand more in order to allow for the Djinnosh to hold their breath for a longer amount than the normal Human. Their skin was naturally thicker, making it harder to break and giving a lack of scarring in most cases.

Society and culture[]

Each of the five tribes had a specific specialization that would allow them to survive on the harsh planet of Geruett.

  • The Tribe of Air was well known for working on transportation creating light gliders and small boats.
  • Members of the Tribe of Fire were builders, always finding new ways to build more sturdy homes or defenses against their foes.
  • The Tribe of Earth was known for agriculture, staying more closely to the few oasis and growing crops. They dedicated much of their time to trying to keep crops in a constant state of growth.
  • The Tribe of Water dedicated much of its time to various medical plants, and learning how to tend to the ill. Most of the members of the clan were physicians of some form.
  • The Tribe of Darkness was solely dedicated to chaos. They sometimes burned villages or plants, attacked other tribes villages. They were known for attacking only at night and vanishing back into their hiding places quickly.

The Djinnosh tended towards a warrior culture. This sparked a high level of competition between various tribes. Sometimes the various tribes would fight over an oasis or a plot of land that they thought they could make more profitable or livable. If tribes competed for dominance it was usually in friendly manners that did not result in deaths.

From time to time the tribes did war with each other, usually when one refused to accept a loss or found the verdict of a meeting unfair. If they were not fighting the tribes had no problem trading with one another, knowing it was the only way that they were going to survive. This kept a constant balance that so that no one tribe ever truly gained the upper hand. They did not believe in gender discrimination and men and women were treated equally so long as they could prove they were worth their statuses or jobs.

No gender roles existed so long as the Djinnosh in question could prove they deserved the positions that they held or wanted. Their initial way of solving problems was either a steam competition or one on one. Fighting was a way to show one was able to be in control and hold power. Sometimes tasks were set for the rival competitors and whichever completed them faster or better was declared the winner. Most of these competitions were within the tribe. Issues with other tribes were handled with small fight or battles until one side admitted defeat.

Most tribe leaders were males and as such they were able to set the rules of their tribe. This resulted in a constant changing of what was fair and allowed. There was a single member of each tribe that was called "the councilor". This individual was in charge of meeting with the other councilors of each tribe to decide upon larger issues that could not be fought to answer. Most of these decisions were for the survival of the planet and how to continue to keep planet wide balance for their god. Every tribe had a councilor though Darkness usually chose to abstain from any participation in the planetary affairs unless they saw an opportunity to gain knowledge for further chaos.

Religion[]

The Djinnosh believed that Geruett was created by a single being of light. That being created the planet with lakes and streams before placing four entities in charge. These entities were called Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. The idea was that these four would equally share the balance of the world. However, the creator's brother, Darkness, discovered what had been built. Darkness went to the four entities and began to meddle. He slowly created shadows in Earth's jungles and Water's deep lakes. Air was unable to have shadows but by then the corruption has spread so that Darkness could create the night. In order to stop the creeping shadows Fire turned his mountains into the sand and created the desert. Fire did not understand that once night came Darkness would stretch freely across his entire domain.

The Djinnosh believed that Light left his entities to maintain the balance and that Darkness could be part of that. They believe that the deterioration of the planet was caused by the balance falling apart.

History[]

When the Golden Empire came it was almost a balance between proving that the Empire was worth respecting and a council issue. The leaders agreed to meet with a representative of the Empire and they requested a duel. When the Empire proved itself to be as strong as its word the Djinnosh willingly accepted itself into the fold, even without the approval of the Darkness tribe.
