The Diverstiy Alliance is a pro-alien, anti-Imperial subdivision of the Rebel Alliance against the Galactic Empire. It was founded by Nolaa Tarkona, a brash Twi’lek woman whose sister, Oola, had been sold to Jabba the Hutt as a slave girl and later killed by his pet Rancor.

History

Tarkona had been fighting for the Rebellion to free the galaxy from Imperial oppression, but her greatest sympathies went out to the many alien species (non-Human) who the Empire persecuted and enslaved. She wanted to form her own private rebellion in which aliens like herself would fight for alien rights, inspiring alien rights and “alien power.” Just after the Battle of Yavin in 0 ABY, Mon Mothma and Princess Leia Organa granted her permission to stand up to the Empire’s anti-alien policies, although they had some reservations about Tarkona’s desire to exclude Humans from the alliance’s ranks, seeing it as another example of species discrimination.

While the canon history of the Rebel Alliance ran its course, the Diversity Alliance, as Tarkona named it, rallied countless oppressed aliens to its banner, using stirring speeches, propaganda, and direct action to inspire them. Their actions included freeing innocent alien slaves from Imperial forces, bringing food and supplies to the poor and starving on many worlds, and performing guerilla strikes on occupied planets in attempts to free them from Moff rule.

The Alliance benefited from the skills and fighting talents of many species, such as Mon Calamari, Quarren, Pau’ans, Utai, Wookiees, Mirialan, Kiffar, and even some Trandoshans. After the Battle of Endor, a handful of Ewoks also voluntarily joined the Alliance and added its own, more primitive strength to the sophistication of the other species.

The Diversity Alliance remained in existence until 5 ABY, when the Empire was fully defeated at the Battle of Jakku, then it was dissolved in favor of finding more peaceful means of achieving alien civil rights. Five years later, however, a new Diversity Alliance was restored, with the intention of bringing aliens together in a peaceful federation of sorts to cooperate interdependently with each other.

Ideology

The “Diverse Rebels,” as they were sometimes known, were firm believers in the humanity of most so-called alien species. They were also of the firm opinion that some aliens were more virtuous than Humans, and could teach humanity some things about ethics that Humans were usually too closed-minded to think of themselves. Almost all of them were contemptuous of the humanocentricism of the Imperials, and strongly suspected the truth that Emperor Palpatine and Count Dooku set many aliens up for a fall with the Confederacy of Independent Systems, but some also blamed many Republic senators, Human and alien alike, for Palpatine’s rise to power, for so unquestioningly idolizing the Chancellor and fearing Separatist atrocities like ”the cowards they were.” At the same time, however, they also acknowledged that there were some sentient species that were far worse than the wickedest humans, like most of the species that served in the Separatist leadership.

Behind the scenes

This Fanon Diversity Alliance is the answer to what the Diversity Alliance from Star Wars Legends should have been. That Alliance was a terrorist organization, anti-Human and anti-Jedi, and Nolaa Tarkona intended to use bio weapons to annihilate the human race, even going so far as to make her alien soldiers slaughter other aliens blindly.
