Rise of the Empire eraRebellion era

Dija Kullias, born Dijak'ullias, was a female Twi'lek who lived during the reign of the Galactic Empire, originally as a pirate working for the Eellayin Wanderers. After the rest of the group was killed in a skirmish on Yavin 4, she was discovered lurking in the Great Temple by Imperial Sergeant Zekk Ryen and later worked with Lieutenant Delof Terallo to escape the jungle moon.

Biography[]

Born in 14 BBY on Ryloth into a family which was enslaved by alcoholic and abusive owners and included her older brother Daresh, Dija chose to leave her homeworld at an early age due to the massive slave trade presence on the planet. With her owners pursuing her, she fled to Coruscant and Nal Hutta before eventually landing on Nar Shaddaa where after three months of scavenging and scrounging around she joined the pirate group the Shadow Marks, led by Hindekol Fulchek. She only spent six months in the group before in 1 BBY a heist on Desun Voshrik's family vault with gang veterans Shalik Pandrigol and Emrin Vacaal turned into a shootout in the group's headquarters, resulting in Shalik, Emrin and Trandoshan bounty hunter Trissk killing Hindekol and his son Nimrol who had been a love interest of Dija's. Though she escaped by subduing Trissk and fleeing the scene, Emrin framed Dija for the vault heist and thus a bounty was put on her head which forced her to escape the Smuggler's Moon, killing Imperial Trade and Commerce Authority officer Eli Husk to take control of his ship. She later joined a group known as the Eellayin Wanderers, named after an extinct species. During a mission to Yavin 4, every member of the gang bar Dija herself were killed.

Around three weeks later, a starving Dija was discovered by Zekk Ryen, an officer in the Imperial Army, in the Massassi-built Great Temple where the pirates had made their base, and where her comrades' bodies now laid. She was taken by the Chandrilan to become his slave girl, dressing her in exotic and revealing outfits, much to her dismay. Ryen's companion, Lieutenant Delof Terallo, was unable to help her due to Ryen being favored by Imperial High Command at the time - any words against him could result in a court-martial.

After the group, which included the astromech droid R5-C3, discovered an unmarked cavern filled with dormant Massassi warriors from centuries past, Kullias managed to escape while her captor was distracted. In fury, he threw a rock which hit one of the warriors and awakened them; Ryen was promptly executed in a blood sacrifice by the warrior tribe, as Dija herself escaped back to the Great Temple.

Recovering some more modest clothing and a blaster from one of her late colleagues, Dija sat in the temple as a rainstorm passed overhead, but was later forced to hide under a storage crate when the Massassi, unable to pursue Terallo and R5-C3, came to the temple. They originally conducted another blood sacrifice with her deceased pirate group members, but later began exploring the area to find more prey. However, they became distracted by the sight of Wupera Kavos and other officers of the Imperial Reclamation Service leaving Darth Syrinn's tomb and left the temple to unsuccessfully pursue them; this allowed Kullias to slip out of the temple and sneak into the cavern to assist a recovering Terallo because she knew he wouldn't hurt her like Ryen did.

They subsequently teamed up and began looking for a way to escape the jungle moon, with Dija suggesting that they complete Terallo's original mission and find some leftover technology to help them. They eventually discovered a battered X-wing starfighter and managed to repair it enough for it to take them to Nar Shaddaa to escape the clutches of the Empire. There, they met up with an old friend of Dija's, the Togruta bar owner Essu Vran, although when he realized Dija had a bounty on her head from the Empire for her piracy he sent Trissk after them. Delof defeated Trissk using his newly-discovered Force powers and they left Nar Shaddaa for the Coruscant underworld, where they came across Kavos again Force choking a Rodian weapons vendor who possessed a lightsaber. Kavos insulted Kullias, calling her a slave girl, causing her to get angry and Delof to attack her with the stolen lightsaber, eventually striking her down with the help of R5-C3 although Dija wondered if Delof should've killed her.

Behind the Scenes[]

Dija was created as a main character for HarmonyGrex's first Star Wars fan fiction short story. Her last name is based off a name once used by the author in a video game. The author originally planned for Dija to be Force-sensitive, but this idea was later scrapped and Delof was given Force powers instead. Dija reappeared in the sequel to Ancient Artifice, Survival, and a short story based on her life before her debut, The Wanderer.
