Desa Bo Clai was the adult name of the daughter of Welk and Darth Inferna. She was an infant at the beginning of the Stellar Imperial War and three years old at its end.

Early Years[]

When Lady Lumiya was almost ready to unleash her Stellar Imperial forces on the rest of the galaxy, she gathered close to her a small number of Dark Jedi and other Force-users of the Dark Side. Among these were Lomi Plo and Welk, but she decided to train Welk herself. She killed Lomi Plo and agreed to save and train Welk if he would agree to father the child of Darth Inferna, another Sith Lord who was about ten years Lumiya's junior. Welk agreed. The baby was a female child named Desa.

Lumiya attempted to create a virus that would destroy midichlorians, rendering the Jedi helpless. The first virus created also destroyed mitochondria and quickly plowed through every living thing it came into contact with, stripping entire planets of all life in a matter of days. Dantooine, Chery, and a few other systems were devastated by the plague, but it was luckily contained with swift quarantines.

When the second, true version of the virus was ready, Lumiya inoculated her Sith officers. Darth Inferna was responsible for infecting Princess Leia and spreading the contagion through the Jedi Order. She intentionally infected Desa, then two, and used Desa to touch off the plague that did not kill anyone but caused all of the Jedi, with a few exceptions, to lose their powers and only gain them back slowly over a period of years.

Desa was taken into custody of a foster family, and Inferna imprisoned, but the damage was done. Only Jacen Solo, Jaina Solo, Anakin Solo, Zekk, Tahiri Veila, Valin Horn, and Sannah escaped infection, because they were all in remote areas of the galaxy and did not come into contact with the virus until they were immunized.

Inferna was killed by Jacen, leaving only Welk to face Jacen and Anakin while Jaina searched for Lumiya. Welk chose to leave the Sith Order instead. He kidnapped his young daughter and escaped with her to the Unknown Regions. Sometime in the next seven years, he returned to Dathomir, his homeworld, with Desa, and was accepted back into the Fire Island clan.

Dathomir Life[]

Desa, the daughter of two Force-sensitives, was strong in the Force and trained to be a witch, although she had to work hard to prove herself, because her mother was not a Dathomiri. She often identified herself as the granddaughter of Truya Djo (mother of Welk, and niece of Augwynne Djo) instead of the daughter of Welk. She retained some knowledge of the Basic language, but it fell into disuse following her move to Dathomir.

At age 17, Desa killed three Nightsisters that were raiding the Fire Island clan. Her great-grandmother Saria decided that it was time for Desa to complete her rite of passage, and capture a male slave. At the same time, Allana Djo, the now 12-year-old daughter of Jacen Solo, had run away from home following the death of Tenel Ka, and she ran to her mother's family, the Singing Mountain clan. Anakin Solo tracked his niece Allana to Dathomir, but did not get far in his search before being captured by Desa and dragged back to the Fire Island clan. She probably would not have been able to catch him, though, if she had not so closely resembled her mother, who had put Anakin through agonizing tortures fifteen years earlier; seeing Desa momentarily stunned him and she was able to club him over the head.

Desa took his clothes and jewelry and gave him slave garments to wear. She also wore his shirt and ring, a gift from Jacen Solo, when she went with the rest of her clan to attack Singing Mountain. She lost the ring and tore the shirt in the fray, and when Allana found the remnants, she knew that Anakin had been captured.

The Nightsisters made an attack on Fire Island while the witches of Fire Island were still weakened from their own raid, and the Nightsisters carried off almost all of the slaves, including Anakin. Jacen Solo showed up shortly thereafter, and Welk accidentally let it slip that Jacen was the one who killed Desa's mother. She was barely held back from viciously attacking Jacen by her great-grandmother, who told Jacen to leave.

Many clans agreed that any slave who killed two Nightsisters in the final showdown would be given his freedom, when the clans banded together to rid Dathomir of the Nightsister threat. Jacen Solo fought as a free man on behalf of the Singing Mountain clan, since he was the former husband of Tenel Ka Djo, and the father of Tenel Ka's daughter. During the fight, Anakin broke out of his prison cell and helped bring down the Nightsisters. However, when it was all over, Desa refused to let him go, even when it was shown that Anakin killed many more than two Nightsisters.

Her pride was wounded because Anakin would not love her, and she meant to keep trying to win his affection, but Welk finally explained to her that he never would. Desa only relented when Jacen produced the red crystal that was the focusing crystal of Darth Inferna's lightsaber and gave it to Desa. She accepted this as payment for Anakin, especially when she was permitted to take two of the Nightsisters' slaves to replace him. Jacen immediately freed him.

From that point forward she had nothing more to do with Anakin's life. It is assumed that Desa remained with the Fire Island clan and had several Force-sensitive daughters.
