The Democratic Clans of Repti Klosa, also known as the Clan Republic of Repti Klosa or simply as the Klosan State, was a government in the Ethereal Demesnes, a voting member of the Diet of the Ethereal Demesnes as a Democratic Demesne, and a former protectorate world of both the Diet and the previous Ethereal Empire. In spite of outside attempts to centralize and "modernize" Klosan society, Repti Klosa remained semi-tribal for tens of thousands of years, ruled by various clans which only developed the equivalent of a unified "state" after becoming an Ethereal protectorate, even remaining effectively tribal when achieving domestically-developed hyperspace travel.
From its early days of complex, sentient inhabitance, Repti Klosa was of interest to the Ethereal Family, the ancient Ethereal Empire's Celestial rulers. This was due to its native species, the Klosans, who possessed evolutionary traits deemed "unusual" by the Family's standards. In particular, they held scientific interest in the Klosans' ability to oxygenate their blood without the need for lungs, a trait which they wished to study and potentially test for deliberate imprinting onto other races. So, around approximately 36,000 BBY, the Empire initiated first contact with the Klosans.
While the Empire had waited for millennia in hopes that the Klosans would gradually developed socially and technologically on their own, they apparently held little interest in such developments, and so the Family ordered what was referred to as a "premature first contact"; that is, a first contact initiated prior to a species' reaching at least the capacity for basic space travel. The Klosans initially were suspicious and frightened of the Ethereal Humans they met, however the Family managed to eventually convince them to accept their guidance and protection. Within a few decades, the Democratic Clans of Repti Klosa had officially been founded as a protectorate of the Ethereal Empire, with their scientific and technological development now receiving Ethereal assistance.
Over the following millennia, Repti Klosa would transition to become a protectorate of the Ethereal Demesnes following the Empire's disappearance, and, in time, became sufficiently advanced to petition for membership in the Diet, the Demesnes' regional legislative body. By the time of the Mandalorian Wars, Repti Klosa was considered an "ancient member of the Diet", suggesting it had been given representation in the legislature millennia prior. By the time of the Clone Wars and later Galactic Civil War, Repti Klosa had, nevertheless, still not developed from its clan-divided, tribally-governed state, even as many Klosans lived off-world and explored the galaxy.
