Demi Rican (nee Tardrec) was a female Zygerrian. She was married to the infamous slaver Shaelo Rican and the mother of their only child, the Jedi Narasi Rican. Demi, like all Zygerrians, accepted slavery as a way of life, and was pleased to own a household full of slaves who could cater to her every need. Shaelo was a successful slaver, but his successes made him absent often on raids, leaving Demi as Narasi's primary caretaker.
In 1,397 BBY, the High King of Zygerria discovered that Shaelo had captured and enslaved Sith citizens, who were sold back to the New Sith Empire. To placate the Empire's wrath, the High King offered them Shaelo's head, and the Ricans had to go on the run. Demi's primary concern became protecting Narasi, which strained her relationship with her husband, who slipped into alcoholism.
In 1,396 BBY, after a year of evading bounty hunters, Demi was out shopping with Narasi when they were approached by a Jedi Knight. The Jedi perceived Narasi's Force abilities, and after confirming them with testing, she asked to take Narasi to Coruscant as a Jedi Initiate. Over a frightened Narasi's objections, and without consulting her husband, Demi surrendered her daughter to the Jedi, believing it was Narasi's best chance for survival.
Demi and Shaelo continued to dodge bounty hunters over the following years, but in 1,387 BBY, San Pavac tracked them down. Both Ricans fought capture, and after killing Shaelo with a disruptor shot, Pavac shot Demi twice in the chest.
