Dec'ao'nuruodo, also known as Dec'ao'nahn or his core name Caon, was a male Chiss who hailed from the planet Cercit. Born as Ao'nahn, he became a merit adoptive of the Dec family. His journey into military service began at the Cercit Auxiliary Naval Academy at a young age, enrolling when he was just seventeen years old.
By the year 23 BBY, Ao'nahn found himself serving aboard the Chiss assault cruiser named the Redowl, as part of Picket Force Seven of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force. His loyalty and dedication to duty earned him recognition from admiral Chrast of the Dec family, who bestowed upon him the honor of becoming a merit adoptive of the Dec lineage.
Years later, Caon had defected to the Empire of the Hand and, following the presumed demise of commander Stent around 20 ABY, Caon assumed many of Stent's former responsibilities within the military hierarchy.
By 44 ABY, Caon had become a significant figure in the Hand, deploying a vanguard force to aid Jagged Fel during the conflicts plaguing the Empire.
Biography[]
Youth[]
Born under the identity of Ao'nahn on Cercit, Ao'nahn was among the first Chiss children to be born on the latest Chiss Ascendancy colony. Ao'nahn was fascinated by the prospect of protecting his own people, and yearned to become an officer in the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force. To this end, he enrolled in the Cercit Auxiliary Naval Academy.
In the years before, the Dec family rapidly had gained eminence on Cercit, which would later work to his advantage. Despite great results, he gained little prestige in the academy and would fail to draw attention until after entering service with the CEDF in 27 BBY.
Service to the CEDF[]
Picket Force Seven[]
Serving with vivid dedication, Ao'nahn rapidly rose through the ranks, having achieved a command position by 23 BBY, captaining from the bridge of his flagship, the Redowl.
At this point, Ao'nahn held the rank of captain, and was a part of Picket Force Seven, which was under the command of admiral Chrast.
Admiral Chrast took special interest in the young officer, his eye having befallen his short but spotless career, despite mediocre academy results. Ao'nahn proved to be a promising officer during Chrast's efforts of pacifying the Unknown Regions, which eventually led to Ao'nahn's induction into the Dec family.
Ao'nahn sought to protect the Chiss, a quality Chrast in particular valued. Before long, Ao'nahn became a merit adoptive, changing his name to Dec'ao'nahn and adopting the core name of Caon.
Thrawn's Shadow Empire[]
Expedition into the unknown[]
Thrawn's exile many years prior gave rise to a new military junta in the Unknown Regions, the Empire of the Hand under command of the former Chiss commander. This new Chiss–Imperial faction's primary objective was the safeguarding of the Unknown Regions and its peoples, a goal which appealed greatly to many members of the Chiss Ascendancy. Thrawn's rising faction revitalized Chiss hope in protecting themselves and the Unknown Regions, inspiring many Chiss to join his cause.
While initially reticent, some of the Chiss families harbored secret sympathies for Thrawn, chief among them members of the Dec and Nuruodo families, which had suffered from a rocky relationship with each other for the past couple years. The Dec family's support was unveiled with the deployment of a secret expeditionary force, under command of captain Dec'ao'nahn. Unknown to Caon, he would not be returning to the Ascendancy as an ally again.
Upon discovery of the deployment of the expeditionary force in 10 BBY, the expeditionary force – Caon included – was exiled from Ascendancy space in and the Dec family was condemned. Caon only then realized the weight of his actions, and while saddened, accepted his fate, for it had been his decision and he believed it to be the correct course of action.
Caon's fleet arrived at Nirauan in a matter of days and while he had never met Thrawn in person before, he was fascinated with the man's career within the Imperial Navy and the principles he stood for. Thrawn had learned of the pending Chiss force, and had prepared a welcome for his brothers.
Service to Thrawn[]
Upon arrival, Caon and his forces enjoyed the warm welcome laid out by Thrawn, who would gladly accept the youngling into his ranks. While Caon viewed this as a chance to protect his race, Thrawn believed it to be a political advance by the Dec family to justify his efforts, enveloping him in a greater sense of legitimacy than before. His forces were recruited into the Hand military, and out of respect, Dec'ao'nahn was changed into Dec'ao'nuruodo, ironically joining the Dec family and the Nuruodo family.
The Hand without head[]
When Thrawn died, and the Dec family withdrew their support for the Empire of the Hand, Caon remained in service of the Empire of the Hand, becoming one of the few Empire of the Hand captains they had left. Caon captained a Chiss Star Destroyer at the time, the Redoubt. He commanded Task Force Redoubt using his starship.
Caon continued to serve in the Empire of the Hand's navy for the years to follow. Baron Soontir Fel, after Stent's presumed demise in 19 ABY, had Caon command a large portion of the Empire's military forces. Caon led the pacification of Amarc and was eventually victorious.
Fel Alliance[]
Caon, at this point an admiral in the Hand, had ran into Jagged Fel and met him outside of Chiss Space. They discussed a potential alliance between Fel's Imperials and the Hand. While Caon did not give a definitive answer, he promised to support his cause when it came to it.
By the time of the battle over Exodo II, Caon had become one of the highest ranking members in the Hand. While not directly responsible for the attack, he was responsible for the Empire of the Hand vanguard during the battle over Exodo II. At this point, Caon and Fel had become allies.
Personality and traits[]
Caon was very disciplined an admiral. He was very loyal to the Chiss, and would stop at nothing to help his race. Caon, while not always in agreement with the Ruling Families, always respected them and their decisions, however thought that the Chiss Ascendancy was incapable of properly defending itself. He most notably cited the Non-Aggression Law, considering it to have a bad impact on the Chiss military, one of the reasons he joined Thrawn's Shadow Empire.
