Old Republic era

Extend your hand, Jedi, to your most generous host.
—Darth Viscerus

Darth Viscerus, born Cimmerii Adlevater, was the last remaining Sith alive after it was believed that Carden Mannux had finally destroyed the Sith Empire on Dxun ten years before the beginning of the Great Sovereign Crusades. Due to his arrogance and curiosity, he fled the Jedi Order and made his way to the ancient world of Thule to begin a new life.

After his fall from grace, Adlevater found the holocron of the Darth Myst, the man who was once Supreme Chancellor Stavan Jetzt, and trained himself in the ways of the Sith, leading some to question whether or not he was a legitimate Sith Lord. After dubbing himself Darth Viscerus, Dark Lord of the Sith, he found an apprentice who he named Darth Dire and became the key forger of the new Sith Empire and the Great Sovereign Crusades.

History[]

Early life[]

A great destiny awaits this child.
—Methrilus

Cimmerii Adlevater was born nearly four decades before the outbreak of the Great Sovereign Crusades on Corellia. His parents abandoned him just after he was born and he was placed into the care of a foster family. Though he was too young to develop any lasting memories of them, they cared for and loved him very much and thought of him as their own son. This made it even more difficult for them when the Jedi Order discovered him and realized his Force sensitivity.

Despite the requests of the Jedi Order, his foster parents denied his acceptance. However, after a great deal of consideration, they decided that it would be best for him to be trained by the Jedi. There was only so much they could teach him and, as his parents, they wanted him to have the best life he possibly could. They knew that the life was with the Jedi, so after months of consideration they offered Cimmerii up for adoption to the Jedi who accepted.

After being taken from his foster parents, the infant Cimmerii was brought before the Jedi Council on Coruscant who did what tests they could on a child of his age. From the very young age of two, the council immediately recognized the strong curiosity that he possessed. Though they knew that if it continued it could very well lead him down a dark path, they were confident in their abilities to change his ways before it was too late.

When he was of age, he was placed into what was known as the “Bear Clan” under the tutelage of a Jedi Master named Noren, a seven-hundred year old veteran of the Great Territorial War. Along with his fellow younglings, he learned the ways of the Jedi Order and the basic powers of the light side of the Force. Though he was fascinated by the philosophies and the ways of the order that he had been raised by, he knew that there was more that he could learn.

Jedi training[]

Dangerous, this boy is. The only one incapable or unwilling to sense it, you are.
Jedi Master Noren

When he was thirteen, Adlevater was placed under the tutelage of Jedi Master Methrilus. Throughout his training, however, many of his colleagues patronized him constantly, in his mind, very few were able to see his true potential. Methrilus, however, was able to and allowed him to excel in the field of combat, the boys very connect to the Force being crafted in the defeating of enemies of the Jedi Order.

However, a dormant danger lurked within the mind of Adlevater as his powers had given him the tools for aggression, as well as arrogance. His apprenticeship was not an uncommon subject in the chambers of the Jedi Council. However, he did find himself rising to the rank of Jedi Knight before his twenty-first birthday.

A dangerous path[]

You know better than to cross me, Noren.
—Cimmerii Adlevater

Adlevater had a strained relationship with the Jedi Council. He refused to contact them when he was on missions and he would disobey direct orders, yet he had an uncanny ability to achieve his goals and desires. It was for this reason and this reason only that the Jedi Council allowed his behavior to continue, as they felt that as long as his desires were along the lines of what they wanted then everything would work out.

Dark Lord of the Sith[]

I am your God, your ruler, your teacher. You will serve me as I instruct you on how to do the bidding of the Sith.
—Darth Myst

The details of his fall to the Dark Side are unclear, though it is known that he found an ancient holocron belonging to Darth Myst when he fled the Jedi Order for Thule. By keeping the existence of the Sith since the United Pirate Crusades, the Jedi Order had not properly trained him in resisting the Dark Side. Because of this, Adlevater fell willing once Darth Myst began speaking to him. His extreme strength and profound knowledge left him with the hammer and the anvil to forge the Sith Empire once more. It began with the construction of the tools he would need and his dubbing himself Darth Viscerus, and once his training with the former Supreme Chancellor had ended he took on an apprentice.

Under the cover of darkness, Viscerus returned to the Jedi Temple and was able to convince the only Jedi Knight he considered a friend, Ayden Wynn, to return to Thule with him and become his apprentice.

Downfall[]

Smell the air, my apprentice. It is the smell of death upon the horizon.
—Darth Viscerus

Viscerus trained Wynn well, acting with pure malevolent instinct while turning his friend into the perfect weapon of the Sith Empire. When he felt that his apprentice’s initial training was complete, he dubbed Wynn Darth Dire, the Dark Apprentice of the Sith. Immediately afterward, but only after great study in his times, he found a way to bring the Sith Empire back formally.

Once again, he returned to the Jedi Temple under the cover of darkness. This time, however, he kidnapped his former Jedi Master and brought him back to Thule. Upon their return, Viscerus chained Methrilus to his newly created Obsidian Throne. He then killed his former teacher and used an old Force power to alert the Jedi Order of what had happened, hoping they would send someone to recover the body.

His prayers were indeed answered. Jedi Master Arlon Kyjar traveled to Thule and found Methrilus chained to the Obsidian Throne. However, what he found more disturbing was that the man he once know as Cimmerii Adlevater was now a Sith Lord. Knowing he could not let the Sith Empire return, Kyjar engaged Viscerus in a fierce duel that made its way out onto the cliffs.

During the fight, Viscerus noticed another middle-aged man had made his way to the top of the ridge. This man introduced himself as Ussej Padric Bac III, a High Priest of a group called the Bendu Order. Viscerus immediately recognized his name as the true name of Darth Mantus, a man who at one time was a fierce Sith Lord. Viscerus engaged them both and was able to kill Kyjar and injure the Bendu High Priest, though not before he took severe injuries of his own. The High Priest fled with the body of the fallen Jedi Master, leaving Viscerus to return to his chambers to begin a long healing process.

However, that healing process would never be completed. While he was recuperating, Darth Dire slipped into his chambers and stabbed him in the heart with a poison blade. Though he wished he would be able to see what would become of the Sith Empire he had helped to re-forge, he was comforted knowing that he had taught his apprentice well. As he died, a small smile crept across his lips that would stay there for eternity.
