Darth Taer was a female Sith Pureblood who served the Sith Empire as a alchemist and sorcerer during the Great Hyperspace War. Towards the end of the war – leveraging the fear that the Galactic Republic were going to destroy the Sith Empire and its people – the Sith Lord declared herself "Darth Taer" and convinced a group of her followers that they needed to flee, leading them on a decade-long voyage into uncharted space.
The deserter fleet eventually attempted to land on the remote world of Farrow but, due to the unusual orbit of its moon, they were forced to crash land, with several vessels unable to change their course when the orbit of Farrow's moon Idlanna suddenly accelerated, devastating the fleet and leaving the moon itself barren. After the crash, Darth Taer sealed herself within her downed science vessel – which would become known as the Black Mountain of Kutahhroht – and left her allies to fend for themselves, creating a power vacuum that sparked the beginning of several decades of infighting. At some point, Taer succumbed to her inevitable demise, but not before binding her consciousness to the Command Rod, ensuring her essence would persist as long as the artifact did. In doing so, she hoped to one day claim a new body with which she could continue her experimentation with the dark side of the Force.
Unfortunately for Darth Taer, a descendant of the followers she abandoned – a young woman named Aaellu – recovered the rod and used it to great effect when the Sith Lord was awoken and attempted to enslave the population of Farrow. While possessing the body of a Knight of Zakuul, Taer was "killed" by Aaellu and her spirit was severely weakened, leaving her powerless to intervene when Aaellu – able to sense her survival through the device – destroyed the rod by tossing it into the crater of an active volcano. Unable to withstand the extreme heat, the rod was destroyed and the ancient Sith Lord was freed from the Sith magic she had used to bind herself. No longer anchored to the physical world, Taer could not resist the draw of Chaos, sealing her fate and removing the last of the old Sith Lords from Farrow.
