Darth Sidious was the name of a Sith Lord who lived during the invasion of Naboo in 23 BBY. He was the apprentice of Darth Plagueis until 46 BBY, in which Sidious betrayed his master and killed him on Dathomir.
Sometime before 23 BBY, Sidious had taken the former Jedi Knight, Khameir Sarin, under his wing and made him his apprentice, Darth Maul. The two then met Neimoidian viceroy of the Trade Federation, Nute Gunray and helped combine his Battle droid armies with others to form the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
Sidious later participated in the invasion of Naboo in 23 BBY. Although the battle was eventually lost with Maul escaping and Gunray being captured, the Confederacy's second attempt to retake Naboo sparked the Clone Wars.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
In 46 BBY, Sidious had finished training under the teachings of Darth Plagueis. However, the master had been fatally stabbed to death by his own padawan and died, leaving Sidious to carry out the Sith's plan to take over the galaxy. Sometime before 23 BBY, Sidious had taken former Jedi Knight Khameir Sarin, now Darth Maul, as his new apprentice, following Darth Bane's Rule of Two, meaning that their would be only one master and one apprentice. Sidious and Maul later met Neimoidian Viceroy Nute Gunray of the Trade Federation and promised to help his droid armies as long as Gunray helped the Sith take control of the galaxy. Sidious then bonded the Federation with the Commerce Guild, Techno Union, Banking Clan, and Geonosian Industries to form the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

In 23 BBY, the Trade Federation had invaded the planet of Naboo. Sidious was contacted by Gunray to learn that two Jedi, Qui-Gon Jinn and his former padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, had boarded Gunray's personal ship. Sidious wanted Gunray to begin the invasion and to ignore the Jedi. But Sidious realized how much of a coward Gunray was and let him attempt to kill the Jedi, leading in their escape. Gunray had control of the planet eventually, but the young queen, Sabe Amidala, had escaped with the Jedi. Sidious sent Maul to track the Jedi to Utapau. Maul was unsuccessful and let them out of his grip. The battle was eventually lost when Maul was confronted by Kenobi, Jinn, and Yoda in a duel, but fled after killing Jinn and wounding Kenobi. Gunray was captured and returned to Coruscant to stand trial. Maul reunited with Sidious on Coruscant to learn that the Confederacy's second attempt at Naboo had failed and that the Clone Wars had begun.
