The Rule of Two may work, but it doesn't work well enough. The ideal Sith would have only one member, and they would seek out all the knowledge of the Force. This, however, would not be possible without eternal life...
—Darth Plagueis's Holocron

Darth Plagueis's Rule of One was a theory about the Sith created by Darth Plagueis. It stated that the perfect Sith would be comprised of one member, thus allowing that person to gain ultimate knowledge. Plagueis's Rule of One was different from that of Darth Krayt because Krayt's had followers, while his did not.

Overview[]

Plagueis's Rule of One stated that there should be only one Sith with no followers or apprentices. The master would spend his time searching for knowledge of the dark side of the Force. Because there was no one to pass the teachings on to, the master would need to know the secret of eternal life.

Pros[]

  • The master would not have to worry about training or being betrayed by an apprentice.
  • He would be able to spend all eternity learning about the Force.

Cons[]

  • In the event the master dies, all of his knowledge would be lost forever.
  • This philosophy required the ability of eternal life, which was very difficult to learn.

History[]

Darth Plagueis created his Rule of One in 46 BBY, however, he was killed by his apprentice, Darth Sidious, before his was able to implement it. Darth Morsus finds Plagueis's Holocron, which contains knowledge about the Rule of One, and implements it in 1,182 ABY.
