In his presence, all hope evaporates. In his presence, you know true despair. What makes him formidable is his power; what makes him terrifying is his resolve.
—A Jedi Master that survived a duel with Darth Ominus, 13 ABY
Darth Ominus (53 BBY – ), also known as the Infinite Emperor or, occasionally by his supporters, as the True Emperor, was a Human male from Bakura that was also a Dark Lord of the Sith during the Galactic Civil War and the leader of the Infinite Empire of the Sith. After he revealed his existence to the galaxy, he took on a new title, naming himself the Lord of Despair.
The man that became Darth Ominus was born on the planet of Bakura in the Outer Rim in the final decades of the Galactic Republic. At some point shortly before the Stark Hyperspace War, Ominus left the known galaxy, either willingly or against his will, as a child, and ventured deep into the Unknown Regions. There, discovering he was Force-sensitive, he began learning the ways of the Sith and harnessing the dark side of the Force. He grew close with his Sith Master, who was also the leader of the so-called Infinite Empire of the Sith, which controlled vast territories in the Unknown Regions. Some time around the Battle of Yavin, he killed his master in a duel and took on the mantle of Dark Lord of the Sith, assuming control of the Empire.
In 10 ABY, shortly after the end of the Imperial Civil War, he invaded the known galaxy in an attempt to destroy both Cail's Empire and the Galactic Federation, which were both deemed as being too weak and unable to resist an invasion by his spies. His entry into the Galactic Civil War threw the galaxy on its head and complicated the galactic conflict even more. His apprentice, Darth Xyster, aided him in his war against the Imperials and the Galactic Federation.
Biography[]
Powers and abilities[]
Darth Ominus was a skilled lightsaber duelist, and cemented his position as such after defeating his master in the one-on-one duel that resulted in the latter's death and Ominus' seizure of the throne of the Infinite Empire. During the Infinite Empire's various campaigns during the Galactic Civil War, Ominus slew many Jedi himself, while dueling Luke Skywalker, Kyle Katarn, and others virtually to the breaking point.
Ominus was known for his mastery of telekinesis, and was able to move even the heaviest objects with great force. During several battles in the Galactic Civil War, Federal and Imperial soldiers claimed he had crushed, in an instant, the bodies of enemy troops with barely a flick of the wrist. During the Battle of Arda, he used the Force, with a great degree of concentration, to make a Victory-class Star Destroyer collide into an Imperial-class, destroying the former and totally crippling the latter, allowing his troops to board and capture it.
Character and traits[]
Ominus was a determined and intelligent Lord of the Sith, and has been compared in some ways to Darth Revan for these characteristics. For a Sith, he was also noted for showing a surprising degree of leniency with those he had defeated or had control over; however, he still showed typical Sith resolve, and would not often tolerate failure, especially if it were absolute.
Behind the scenes[]
Darth Ominus' name has two points of origin. Ominus is a alteration of the word dominus, Latin for "master" or "lord". It is also drawn from the English word ominous, which means "being or exhibiting an omen; foreboding or foreshadowing evil".
