Darth Nihilus was a Sith Lord of the Sith Order of Decreto, and the first of Wyyrlok's "Hands", as well as the commander of the Sith Order of Decreto's forces on Korriban and its nearby systems. A close friend of Darth Raith, the two were barely seen apart, let alone out of contact with one another.
Having escaped Roon under the pretenses of becoming Darth Wyyrlok's apprentice, Nihilus joined the Sith academy on Korriban, quickly showing his tenacity for combat and strategy. Training in the academy on Korriban, he soon drew the attention of the Dark Lord at the time, Darth Mahina, who contemplated taking Nihilus as her apprentice. Knowing this, Wyyrlok set in place a trap for the Dark Lord, using Nihilus as his bait.
Years passed, and Nihilus was inducted into the Hand, still oblivious to the games between Wyyrlok and Mahina. Happening upon the Sith Knight Darth Raith, Nihilus and Raith developed a deep rooted rivalry that plagued the entire academy. Eventually however, the feud boiled over when, after a brief engagement, Nihilus showed his willingness to forgive and forget; taking Raith as his friend. With Raith apart of Nihilus and Wyyrlok contingent, Nihilus was finally enlightened to the threat Darth Mahina posed, as well as that of the prospective Sith apprentice Darth Forradar.
Things soon spiraled out of control, and, with Forradar dead and Wyyrlok, Nihilus and Raith being pursued by the entire order for their defiance of the Rule of One, Wyyrlok decided the time had come to confront Mahina personally. Engaging Mahina in a duel, both Wyyrlok and Nihilus dealt the killing blows. With Wyyrlok assuming the title of Dark Lord, both Nihilus and Raith found themselves in positions of immense power. Nihilus assumed control of the Sith fleet and lead from the front, strengthening the ageing Sith empire.
For years Nihilus lead from the front, proving his worth time and again against all different manner of enemies, Jedi included. Eventually however, with the on set of the Zao tenj War, Nihilus found himself fighting alongside the Jedi.
Biography[]
The history of Nihilus' life before the Zao tenj War was one of cloak and mystery. Nihilus himself seemed unaware of his own past and spoke to very few people about it, or at all for that matter.
He was discovered in 201 ABY, on Roon, by the then-Sith Lord Darth Wyyrlok to be an already fully able Force-sensitive, that was making full use of his potential. Wyyrlok however saw a potential in Nihilus that outweighed any he had encountered before, short of Darth Abeonis himself.
Convincing Nihilus to become his apprentice, Wyyrlok left Roon for Korriban, tasking Nihilus with finding his own way there. Wyyrlok destroyed all and any way of the planet in terms of starships or transport carriers and waited in orbit for the Sith-prospective to execute his escape.
He waited four hours before suddenly, something began to happen.
Escaping Roon[]
Nihilus, using his immense knowledge in telekinesis began pulling the various parts of destroyed starships, forests, rocks and other curious materials towards himself and begun building himself a transport. Wyyrlok, immensely satisfied with his new apprentice made his way to Korriban and awaited his apprentice.
In the meantime, Nihilus had been reflecting on a previous situation that he had been in before, very much like this, and was determined to prove himself too Wyyrlok by escaping.
By bringing the ruined remains of various warships together, and using the raw power of the Force to lift the ship into orbit, and help him survive the vacuum of space, Nihilus made his way to Korriban, traveling in the wake of various starship's hyperspace vortexes. In just under a week, Nihilus arrived and was greeted warmly by his new Sith Master.
Training to become a Sith[]
Nihilus quickly begun his training as a Sith apprentice, making full use of his latent potential and quick wits. He astonished Wyyrlok and many of those who watched him, including the then Dark Lord Darth Mahina.
Mahina, seeing a potential in Nihilus that outweighed even her own, decided to steal Nihilus from Wyyrlok and take him as her own apprentice, killing Wyyrlok in the process. Two years passed and Nihilus' training continued.
He learned to master the ancient art of Atra-Manua and was inducted into the Hand as a prospective. He was also granted access to the more ancient sections of the Sith library on Korriban, including references to the ancient Sith Lords Sam Sinays and Ater Phasas'a.
It was here that Nihilus first encountered the rugged and strongly figure that was Darth Raith. Raith, already a fully fledged Sith Knight looked down upon Nihilus as a wannabe, and treated him with disdain; constantly belittling and embarrassing him for his refusal to speak.
Then, one day, when Raith used the Force to throw Nihilus' training equipment half way across the room and refused to pick it up, Nihilus roared in a fit of rage and swung at the Sith Knight with his lightsaber. Raith deflected the block but the raw strength of it shattered his wrist and lower arm.
Raith refused to relent and picked himself up, striking Nihilus with his fist in the side of the skull. He was shocked when he felt what was behind the Sith apprentice's mask… nothing.
Raith, in shock, fell to the floor in pain and gave up the fight, but Nihilus didn't kill him. Nihilus simply bent down and placed his head against Raith's ear, saying "You have proven your worth". Raith, although still resenting the Sith apprentice for the destruction of his lower arm and his new prosthetic limb, now respected him, and the two often spoke to one another.
Raith often noted to Wyyrlok that besides Wyyrlok and himself, Nihilus spoke to no-one at the Academy, and secluding himself away from even his other teachers unless needed. Several more years passed and Nihilus, through means unknown, achieved the title of Sith Knight. In 214 ABY Darth Nihilus was approached by Darth Forradar and offered the chance at becoming a Sith Lord.
Betrayed[]
Forradar gave Nihilus a message from Mahina, saying that she wished to speak with him, and that Wyyrlok was not to know of the meeting. Nihilus agreed and Forradar made his way back, to inform the Dark Lord of this development. Nihilus also made his way back to his master, but choose not to inform Wyyrlok of his meeting with Forradar.
Two hours passed before Nihilus heard any word from Forradar of Mahina and he began to wonder if any was to come of the meeting, but when it did it was quick. Nihilus was arrested by Forradar on charges of conspiring against the Dark Lord, in direct defiance of the Rule of One. Nihilus drew his weapon and struck Forradar down, slaying his companions as well.
Wyyrlok and Raith, both sensing the slaughter, rushed too Nihilus' quarters to find him standing over three dead bodies. Nihilus told them what had happened and about the meeting two days before, being quick to suggest that Mahina's true target was Wyyrlok and that he himself was just a stepping stone.
Wyyrlok agreed and turned his back too the two Sith Knights, in preparation for confronting Mahina when Raith gripped his shoulder. Wyyrlok turned and protested being held back when Raith replied that he did not believe Mahina yet knew of Forradar's failure. This gave them the advantage needed to successfully overthrow Mahina.
Overthrowing the Dark Lord[]
Nihilus approached Mahina's quarters and requested entry from the guards. Once permission had been granted Nihilus entered, closing the door behind him. Mahina was clearly shocked at Nihilus' being there and exclaimed her belief that he was dead. Nihilus simply replied that Forradar's plot to replace him as Mahina's next prospective apprentice had failed and that Nihilus was ready to take up the mantle. Mahina, incorrectly believing that Nihilus had been swayed gave him a test; to kill Wyyrlok.
Wyyrlok was then brought before them, escorted by the newly appointed Hand Darth Raith, and was ordered to draw his weapon. Wyyrlok obliged and drew his lightsaber. Nihilus did the same and proceeded to strike and Wyyrlok. Wyyrlok easily with-held the Sith Knight's attacks but made certain to seem as if he was having great difficulty.
Moments passed and Raith slowly edged his way around the room, until he was standing beside Mahina, Nihilus pulled back as Wyyrlok apparently began to gain the upper hand when suddenly, Nihilus and Wyyrlok both struck and Mahina, impaling her through the abdomen.
Mahina, in total shock, looked down at her stomach and expressed her displeasure at being slain. As a final act of power she launched Raith into an open power generator, severely burning and disfiguring him. With Mahina gone, Wyyrlok assumed the title of Dark Lord, although not without challenge, and Nihilus was declared a Sith Lord, alongside Darth Raith.
Many years passed and Nihilus' power grew more and more, as did his reputation.
Zao tenj War[]
It would not be until the year 242 ABY that Nihilus was truly tested by an enemy truly worthy of his skills; the Zao tenj.
Battle of Korriban[]
During the battle of Korriban Darth Nihilus had been tasked with defending the planet against the Zao tenj land invasion.
Although it quickly became obvious that Korriban was lost to the Sith, Nihilus and Wyyrlok did succeed in escaping with the vast majority of the Sith Academy's archives, weapons and technologies effectively making Korriban no-more that a morale boosting victory.
Post-Korriban[]
Despite the defeat at Korriban and the Zao tenj declaration of victory the Sith Order of Decreto continued to fight the Zao tenj for many years, inflicting serious casualties and disrupting the Zao tenj attempts to indoctrinate the local populous of many worlds.
After several years of guerrilla tactics many Sith and Jedi agreed that the time had come for them to take the fight to the Zao tenj. Nihilus was chosen to lead the attack on the world of Yavin IV.
Following the battle of Gnu and the death of Jedi master Urai Fen, the Jedi became more reluctant to serve with the Sith. Nihilus was chosen by the Dark Lord to lead the first solo Sith operation, alongside Darth Raith.
Personality and traits[]
Darth Nihilus was renowned throughout the galaxy for his tactfulness and patience. Much like his Sith Master, Darth Wyyrlok, Nihilus knew how to bide his time and was considered all the more dangerous for this. Unlike most Sith of his time, he was prepared to spend days upon end waiting for the "right moment" to make his move, and this often lead to favorable results.
A quick learner and skilled warrior with both the lightsaber and the Force, Nihilus focused almost all his efforts on Atra-Manua, but also worked on various other, more offensive, lightsaber forms.
Having few friends, he only ever spoke to Wyyrlok and Raith on a personal level, he only spoke too anyone else if he was giving orders. More often than not, any orders he gave were given via Raith.
Darth Nihilus was a sufferer of Power syndrome.
