Darth Bandon, born Deren Saran, was a Sith Lord in the Sith Empire of Darth Revan and the apprentice of Darth Malak.

Biography[]

Jedi[]

Deren Saran was born in 3983 BBY on the Outer Rim world of Belderone. At the age of seven, he was rendered an orphan when bloodthirsty pirates killed his parents. He was rescued by Jedi Master Aamaw Vadon, who took Saran away to be trained as a Jedi. Vadon himself eventually took on Saran as his Padawan learner, but was unable to curb the young man's emotions and Saran lusted for revenge against the pirates that had taken his parents' lives.[1]

In 3959 BBY, Saran and Master Vadon were sent to Taloraan to rescue Senator Fiaid Dollan from pirates. Taken over by anger, Saran ended up slaughtering dozens of pirates, an act which horrified his master. The Jedi Council attempted to rein in the rogue Jedi but Saran rejected them and their teachings, departing the Order for the Sith Empire that had recently emerged from the Unknown Regions.[1]

Sith[]

Traveling to Korriban, Saran trained at the Sith Academy, standing out among his peers for his ruthlessness and cruelty. These traits attracted the notice of Darth Malak, who saw Saran as a prospective apprentice. After betraying Darth Revan and seizing the mantle of Dark Lord, Malak chose Saran as his apprentice and gave him the name Darth Bandon.[1][2]

As Malak's Shadow Hand, Darth Bandon proved a danger to the Jedi as the Sith Lord slew many a Jedi Knight during the Second Sith War, including his former master Vadon. It would not be long before Bandon began having desires of his own, setting his sights on the Sith throne that his master currently sat upon. However, he failed to realize such aspirations as he soon met his fate at the hands of an amnesiac Revan, on the path of a Jedi once more, and was struck down on the aquatic world of Manaan.[3]

Legacy[]

After his death, Darth Bandon's remains were recovered by Sith acolytes, who believed his severed head would allow them to communicate with his spirit. This crazed cult embarked on a quest for a new body to join Bandon's head with but were stopped by the Jedi. Bandon's head eventually fell into the possession of Risha Drayen and it was given to the Royal Museum of Alderaan, who wished to honor House Ulgo scion Trask, who fell at Bandon's blade during the Second Sith War.[4]
