Darqyren Valt was a male Sakiyan criminal. A leading member of the Breld Syndicate, Darqyren used his considerable intellect and ability to intuit the desires of others to solicit clients. Though genial and even-tempered, he was first and foremost devoted to himself, and would sacrifice anything if necessary for his own advancement.
Biography[]
The auction[]
Darqyren, along with Selmatri Furne and Nebel Oldrunin, was one of the leaders of the Breld Syndicate; Darqyren had the responsibility for soliciting new clients of the Syndicate's wares. To that end, he ingratiated himself with the Shell Hutt Runganna, who hired Valt for his agile mind and intellect. He quickly became Runganna's most trusted advisor, serving as her vizier and improving and executing many of her schemes.
In 1,387 BBY, Valt brought Runganna an offer from the Syndicate to sell her a nuclear bomb in exchange for millions of credits and greater exposure to the criminal underworld. Runganna accepted, but declined Valt's proposal to resell it, instead hosting an auction with the Galactic Republic, Empire of Ryloth, and Guardian Mandalorians as bidders. Valt hired Rafan Korminne to arrange the assassinations of the Jedi, but Korminne's subcontractors failed. Valt also advised against Runganna's plan to subject the bidding parties to a Koboskya no Jankpa, though when she proved immovable he first helped her procure the services of Dashade mercenary Ghrond Farshyk and later added San Pavac as a second layer of duplicity.
Despite their preparations, Narasi Rican won the Koboskya no Jankpa and defeated Pavac. Confronted by Tirien Kal-Di, who killed her Gank bodyguards, Runganna surrendered the bomb and its activation codes. Valt pledged to help her rebuild her shattered finances, but, as he had secretly been working for the Breld Syndicate for years, was privately glad to be rid of her and expected the Hutt Ruling Council or Black Sun to dispose of her.
Dealmaking[]
Leaving Runganna to her fate, Valt returned to the Syndicate, first on Hypori, then later on Tenara when Selmatri relocated the primary manufacturing plant. Darqyren continued his primary role of recruiting new clients, wherein he arranged sales of nuclear warheads to Argus Z'dar, but also secretly monitored Nebel Oldrunin's work to learn the identities of several of the Syndicate's financiers.
After Qerriz deserted the Syndicate, Darqyren placed a major bounty on his head and alerted Z'dar. When Z'dar attracted increasing attention after the bombings of Galidraan, Deep Storage Facility 214-Peth, and Bogg 14, Darqyren planned a relocation to Ventooine, but the Republic attacked before he could escape Tenara. Rather than risk Selmatri informing on him, he shot and killed the Lutrillian; he attempted to have his bodyguard droid, SED-9x, kill Kenza Rowkwani, but after the Miraluka Jedi dispatched the droid, Darqyren surrendered without a fight. He offered to betray the Syndicate's financiers to her in exchange for his freedom, but Kenza took him prisoner nonetheless.
Skills and abilities[]
As a Sakiyan, Darqyren had both physical abilities and mental processing capabilities in excess of the Human standard. Tirien Kal-Di, generally considered an intelligent and insightful man by his fellow Jedi, believed he was pitting wits at a disadvantage against Darqyren on Circumtore. Despite his physical capabilities, however, Darqyren believed himself unequal to facing a Jedi Knight like Kal-Di or Kenza Rowkwani in direct combat.
Appearance and personality[]
Darqyren had silver-blue eyes and maroon, metallic skin, and stood 1.87 meters tall. He was often accompanied by SED-9x, an assassin droid he recruited as a bodyguard, though he was capable of combat himself if needed.
Darqyren operated primarily out of self-interest, but was not immune to other instincts. He legitimately befriended Selmatri Furne, and it grieved him to kill Selmatri on Tenara, but he did so nonetheless because he felt it the only way to ensure his own survival if captured. Though self-interested, he was not prideful, and willingly surrendered to Kenza Rowkwani rather than risk a hopeless fight.
