A Darkstar crystal was an extremely rare crystal that could only be found in the Anhōju Nebula within the Unknown Regions. They were created when the star Anhōju, a Wolf-Rayet star went hypernova. They were known for their inherent connection to the dark side of the Force and their Force-enhancing abilities akin to the Kaiburr or Qixoni crystals. They could also be used in a lightsaber, but could only be wielded by dark-siders. If held in the hands of a light side user, it would heat up and start to burn them.

Darkstar crystals were varying in tints and shades of Indigo and Violet with a fiery glow, making the crystals resemble purple fire in appearance. When used in a force-attuned object like a Sith staff, Sith sword, or lightsaber, it would magnify the user's connection to the force. The crystal could only be used by dark side force users, if a Jedi attempted to purify it with Force Light, the crystal would react violently, generating an intense wave of dark side power, severely injuring the offending Jedi. When used in a lightsaber, it gave the blade the appearance of Indigo and Violet flames of a Dark Star. Due to the intense power and the inherent qualities the crystal possessed, the blade of said lightsaber resembled an unstable flame blade, producing coronal flares like a burning hot sun. Despite the appearance, the blade produced was indeed stable and was capable of cutting through blast doors with relative ease. The crystal also allowed a Sith to channel Sith Magic or dark side Force abilities through the blade and could even absorb other dark side attacks and deflect or dispel light side attacks.
