Son, if you'd take some fatherly advice, let me tell you something; the Curia shouldn't be trusted freely. I'm not saying they're untrustworthy, but they certainly aren't trustworthy, either.
—Atlus Valdayn to Arius Valdayn
The Curiate of Kalentos, also known as the Theocracy of Kalentos, was the official Ethereal Demesne government of the Ethereal Curia, a religious organization founded in the decades following the disappearance of the Ethereal Empire and Ethereal Family. According to some sources, the Curiate was among the most suspicious of the Demesnes, with one observer from the Kingdom of Luctanem remarking that "their politics are more obscure than the eternal night of Noctorem".
The Kalentos system was originally an Arcuvan-Cinnerician joint colony, but, in time, it developed its own culture and religious views, particularly following the lack of support from their homeworlds resulting from the Ethereal Empire's disappearance and ensuing chaos and warfare. Thus, Kalentos eventually joined the Diet of the Ethereal Demesnes as a Theocratic Demesne, though the other Demesnes questioned their theocratic values.
Technically, the Ethereal Curia took their values in no small part from traditional Ethereal views of the Force, interpreted more religiously and spiritually than they generally were. However, their interpretations were considered fairly radical, obscure and confusing among the Demesnes' general population, and thus, a sense of uncertainty arose as to whether or not the Curia was entirely trustworthy, and what their true intentions might actually be.
This suspicion endured through millennia of change and development, lasting long enough for King Atlus Valdayn of Luctanem to advise his son, prince Arius Valdayn, not to assume that the Curia were or were not trustworthy. Later, during the Galactic Civil War, the younger Valdayn extended an olive branch to the Curia, asking their aid during the conflict against the Galactic Empire and restoration of the Ethereal Empire. The Curia obliged, and, in the following years, their obscurity finally came to an end as they opened up their philosophies to outside inspection and questioning and historians investigated their past.
