The Corporate Banate of Deridan, also known as the Deridan Banate or the Deridic Company State, was a government in the Ethereal Demesnes, an Oligarchic Demesne in the Diet of the Ethereal Demesnes, and a member of the Guild & Bank Alliance. The government, and its ruling Deridic National Economy Company, were based on the planet Deridan, where company-appointed nobles called Company Bans ran the majority of the day-to-day political and civil administration, thus leaving the company to run the economy.
When Deridan was first colonized, it was left largely as a frontier outpost. Barely inhabited by the Demesnes' settlers, it spent several millennia being passed around to various Demesnes to manage and gradually develop. In time, a number of capitalists and entrepreneurs came to realize that Deridic industry and resources had nearly reached a level at which they could be exploited effectively. Thus, they came together and petitioned the Diet to grant them a charter for the star system. After several attempts and slow debate, the Diet finally agreed, and these wealthy individuals formed the Deridic National Economy Company to manage their new holdings' entire gross domestic product.
Not seeking to run much of Deridan's politics directly, the new corporate government deliberated on a means to hold their power without having to exercise it to keep their investment running smoothly. The solution decided upon was the formation of a mixed corporate-noble government, with the political system largely handled by the newly-established Company Bans, headed up by the High Company Ban. Gradually, over the course of thousands of years and many generations, though, the Bans eventually came to flip the situation around by way of buying their way into the company that owned their planet, becoming the organization's majority shareholders and thus effectively gaining authority to run Deridan as they saw fit.
By the time of the Galactic Civil War, Deridan was known for producing a variety of complex industrial goods, from computer chips to humanoid combat exoskeletons. Among the latter was the Sentinel X-4 Exoskeleton, a heavy suit of armor and strength boosting devices which could be worn by many average-sized humanoid species to protect their bodies and increase their relative physical strength and mobility. Another, similar Deridic creation was the Cetacean R-8 Exoskeleton, a more civilian-oriented protective suit designed to allow the user to enter deep ocean depths with support for breathing and pressure resistance. Some time later, around the same time that the Ethereal Demesnes were developing the Slipspace Hyperdrive, Deridic engineers were employed to design spacesuit exoskeletons based upon prior designs, creating the Singularity A-14 Exoskeleton to support starship and starbase crews' ability to conduct repairs and other operations on the exterior of their respective ships and space stations.
