Contispex I, born Aldon Contispex, was a Human male politician who served as Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic at the start of the Pius Dea Era and started the Pius Dea Crusades.
Biography[]
Aldon Contispex was born on Coruscant during the Kymoodon Era. An adherent of the humanocentric Pius Dea cult, Contispex was a member of the Coruscant Merchants' Guild and later came to represent his homeworld in the Galactic Senate. In 11,984 BBY, Chancellor Pers'lya was impeached and assassinated by the Malkite Poisoners and Contispex was elected to the office of Supreme Chancellor, with some help from the Malkite Poisoners.[1][2] The Jedi Order also secretly played in a role in Contispex's ascension to the office, believing that Contispex's goals to align with their own.[3]
During his tenure as Chancellor, Contispex exploited pro-human sentiment in the Republic as well as tensions with the Hutt Empire, culminating in 11,965 BBY when Contispex authorized an invasion into Hutt Space, starting what would become known as the first of the Pius Dea Crusades.[1]
In 11,947 BBY, Contispex stepped down from the office and was succeeded by his son, who took on the name Contispex II, starting a dynasty of Supreme Chancellors that would rule the Republic for the next nine hundred years.[1] Upon his death, Contispex I was cremated and his ashes were held within arks. By the Imperial Period, the arks containing Contispex's ashes ended up in the possession of Dryden Vos and were kept aboard the First Light.[4]
