The Confederation Navy (CN, also known as the WSCN, the Western States Navy, the Western Navy, the Western Confederation Navy and as the Confederation Fleet) was the name given to the national navies of the nations which were members of the Western States Confederation, an alliance of Conservative and Nationalist nations from Earth's western hemisphere, that were working together as one organisation.
The CN was formed after the Traditionalist Faction, a faction of the Union Senate, was replaced by the WSC, following which the independent national navies of the Traditionalist nations worked together under a common organisation, though, as with the other branches of the Confederation military - the Confederation Army and the Confederation Air Force - each of the member nations maintained control over their national forces, no nation was allowed to directly control another nation's military unless asked to, or in extraordinary circumstances.
Since the WSC was nominally a faction of the Union of Earth States, the Confederation Navy was likewise de jure nominally a branch of the Union Navy, though was de facto a separate navy that solely protected the western National Conservatist nations and their interests, frequently neglecting to protect the Federalist eastern nations.
As a result, most CN ships flew three separate ensigns when at sea, the first being the naval ensign of their nation of origin, and that of the navy they were part of, the second being the ensign of the Confederation Navy, and the third being the ensign of the Union Navy, due to the CN being officially part of it, though to the average Westerner the flying of the Union's ensign was seen merely as ceremonial.
