The Home Guard, an army of civilian volunteers which defend the homeland of the Confederacy, made up of those who can't serve in the regular army for whatever reason.
—A description of the Home Guard

The Confederate States Home Guard - CSHG, also known as the Confederate Home Guard, though not to be confused with the other organisation of the same name, and, most often, simply as the Home Guard, was the Home Guard of the Confederate States of Earth. Made up of civilians who were unable to serve in the regular army, the Home Guard was tasked with protecting the homeland of the Confederacy whilst the CSA was away at the front.

The CSHG accepted anyone between the ages of 15 and 18, up to 70, 15 was the minimum age of military service in the Confederacy, however, the minimum age of combat service in the regular army was 18, as a result many of those between the ages of 15 and 18 served in the CSHG.

On the other end of the scale, the CSHG also accepted anyone over the age of 50, the maximum age of service in the regular army, all the way up to 70, the absolute maximum age of military service. As a result the CSHG was sometimes referred to as the "Army of Boys and Old Men".

Anyone between the ages of 18 and 50 was also accepted, though it was much preferred for men between those ages to serve in the regular army, most of those who were 18-50 and served in the CSHG had specific reasons for not being able to join the regular army, whether it was medical reasons or because they were unable to leave their local area for personal reasons, for example family concerns and commitments which made serving in the regular army impossible.

The oldest soldier to serve during the Earth Civil War was a member of the Home Guard. He was Michael Albert Kingdom (113 BBY - 17 BBY). Michael was a career soldier who served during the New Earth Republic crisis and other conflicts in the history of the Union, and joined the Home Guard in early 21 BBY at the age of 92. Kingdom managed to bypass the maximum age of service requirement by making himself appear younger, and being considered by his commanding officer as fit enough for Home Guard service.

The Home Guard Hymn[]

The Home Guard Hymn was a patriotic song from 21 BBY by Corporal Peter Tinniton of the Confederate States Home Guard, and served as the anthem of the Home Guard.

The hymn was written by Tinniton as a fast and energetic ode to the Home Guard which had the potential to be used as a marching song.

The song was included within the First Edition of the Patriotic Songs and Anthems of Confederate Earth songbook.

The First National flag of the Confedercy - the "Crimson Bar flag"

The Crimson Bar flag flies proudly in the breeze,
And aged veterans, their standard they seize,
Tho' their corps may be old, their spirits are young, their battle for liberty shall be won!
The Home Guard is the bulwark of our land,
They are a happy and joyful band,
should the foe men foolishly attack,
From the Home Guard they shall fall back!

REFRAIN: Should the foe men foolishly attack,
From the Home Guard they shall fall back!

The Home Guard contains the Old Guard,
Fierce as Tigers, yet musical as bards,
They serv'd us then, and they serve us now,
To the tyrant of the East, they shall ne'er bow!
They stand for our rights,
And all foe men in their sights,
They shall shoot down to the man!
For tyranny they resist, for freedom bright,
They leap aboard fair Liberty's van!

REFRAIN: For tyranny they resist, for freedom bright,
They leap aboard fair Liberty's van!

They are all appall'd by Williams' acts,
They swear to crush tyrants' weak backs,
In their mind, the Union is truly dead,
For the Union's sons, by knaves, they are led.
To this fake Union, they raise their flag,
Their vision is cloud'd red!
Western liberty guides their hand,
Their spirit shall ne'er lag!

REFRAIN: Western liberty guides their hand,
Their spirit shall ne'er lag!

To the Federalist, they are little threat,
A band of old-timers reliving their youth,
To such arrogant attitude, their fury is set,
Those "old-timers" reply with words most uncouth!
Said "old-timers" represent the true,
The brave and loyal, too,
They in their youth won the field of glory,
The Virtuous Hall sings their stories!

REFRAIN: They in their youth won the field of glory,
The Virtuous Hall sings their stories!

So, three cheers for the Home Guard!
Thanks to them, the East invad'r shan't retard!
They are e'er stalwart and they are prim'd,
Any foeman's attack on them is ill-tim'd!
They shall not stop until he is destroy'd,
And our safety and freedom is buoy'd,
Our homes, the foe shall fearfully avoid,
We jeer at the crush'd foe annoyed!

REFRAIN: Our homes the foe shall fearfully avoid,
We jeer at the crush'd foe annoyed.
