Well, lady Klastes is my cousin, perhaps we could stay on Tandar for a time, husband.
—Miraea Eredanus to Atlus Valdayn planning a trip to the Shadowy Frontier sector
The Condominium Protectorate of Tandar, often referred to shortened as the Protectorate of Tandar or the Condominium of Tandar and sometimes known as the Jo'Va-Klastes Protectorate, was a government located primarily in the Shadowy Frontier sector of the Ethereal Demesnes, where it assisted in regional colonization, exploration, and mercantile efforts under special charter from the Diet of the Ethereal Demesnes.
Originally, Tandar and the other habitable bodies of the Tandar System were settled under a relatively rare instance of two separate governments in the same Ethereal star system; one led by House Jo'Va, the other by House Klastes. In fact, both were settled primarily on Tandar itself, and some feared they would come to blows over territorial disputes. However, the Diet quickly stepped in and offered the entire system membership, but only under the condition that the two sides come together to form a single, unified state.
Initially, neither side was particularly happy with the Diet's conditions, but, in time, the two integrated successfully enough that a new capital city was specially designed and built under the guidance of both Houses and their favored architects. Eventually, the two even went into business together, developing the Jo'Va-Klastes Conglomerate, a joint corporate venture which came to dominate entire sectors of the Tandari economy and was the typical source of Tandari exports to the larger Demesnes and the larger galaxy.
By approximately 35 BBY, the Tandari territories were considered by some citizens of the Demesnes, particularly Ethereal Humans, to be quite pleasant to vacation at. Thus, when king Atlus Valdayn of Luctanem planned a "working vacation" to the sector, his wife, queen-consort Miraea Eredanus, suggested visiting the planet as the reigning Lady-Protector of House Klastes, Arinthia Klastes, was her cousin. Valdayn agreed, however the trip would prove disastrous when, shortly after departing Tandar after a two-week visit, Eredanus fell ill, and later died, leaving Arius and Atheria Valdayn in the care of their father alone and shaping their perceptions of family throughout their lives. Ironically, Eredanus' death led to the survival of the same cousin who she suggested meeting on Tandar, as, based upon Eredanus' experience, a cure for her illness was conceived which was administered to Klastes the following year.
