Coldos Tosyn was a male half-Echani, half-Thyrsian Jedi Knight. Though he favored his Thyrsian father's dark complexion and hair, he had his Echani mother's silver eyes. He was a widely-respected Jedi Guardian during the New Sith Wars. He was a contemporary and friend of Karr Shadeez and Argus Z'dar, though he fell out with the latter when Z'dar left the Jedi Order and began his own, bloody crusade against the New Sith Empire. As a relatively young man, he fought in the Battle of Onderon.
Coldos trained to master the rare lightsaber pike, though he was also an expert swordsman with a standard lightsaber and more than capable with a variety of other melee weapons. Despite his gifts, he was never elevated to the rank of Jedi Master. He speculated this was for the same reason he was never made a Jedi General—that he was too immersed in the moment and the conflict before him, and unable to detach from the plight of individuals to maintain objectivity and a galactic-scale perspective.
By 1,385 BBY, Coldos was assigned to the Eighth Republic Expeditionary Fleet under Mali Darakhan. Though not a Jedi General, he lent Mali the benefit of his decades of combat experience as a counselor; other than Tirien Kal-Di, Coldos was the Jedi to whom Mali listened most. Coldos took charge of the alcoholic Jedi Knight Wastin Quoi aboard the Starstorm.
Coldos participated in the Battle of Phaeda, where he dueled and killed a Fourth Rank Vanguardian. Mali intended Coldos to lead a major ground assault in the Battle of Agamar, but reluctantly sent Coldos and Wastin to aid Master Gavhys Narfulk when an opportunity presented itself to capture or kill Darth Hokhtan.
After Hokhtan crashed on Orleon, Coldos led Wastin, Raven Kaivalt, Miell Dinch, Poordet, and Tzakkitz on a weeklong pursuit across the rainy planet. When they finally met in battle, Coldos and Raven confronted Hokhtan, but Raven had to pull away to engage Darth Alecto. Even after more Sith arrived, Coldos and Hokhtan dueled one-on-one, dealing each other inconclusively minor wounds before Hokhtan finally mortally wounded Coldos. Accepting his death with dignity, Coldos composed a death poem, which Hokhtan allowed him to speak in full before killing him.
Powers and abilities[]
Coldos was an expert duelist with both a lightsaber and a lightsaber pike; due to the unusual nature of his pike, he was able to outduel even technically superior swordsmen unused to the weapon. Tirien Kal-Di considered Coldos one of the few Jedi in the Eighth Fleet who could seriously test his own combat skills, ranking him among such lightsaber luminaries as Mali Darakhan and Kenza Rowkwani. Coldos and Darth Hokhtan were evenly matched, though Hokhtan prevailed in their duel.
Appearance and personality[]
Coldos had dark skin, and dark hair which he kept in a topknot; his hair started to go gray as he aged. He had silver Echani eyes, which many beings considered striking against his dark skin. He had a powerful, muscular build even into his fifties. He was heavily scarred, including a particularly noticeably scar from his left temple down the side of his neck. His pike had a bronze blade, and his lightsaber a gold one.
Coldos was an educated man; he had studied the philosophies of many ancient Jedi, and could quote many from memory. He was conscious of his skills, but also of their limits. He believed that war could bring out the best and worst of beings, but often focused on its pressure forging diamonds out of normal beings, and believed the difference was a matter of willpower. He had some reservations about enabling Wastin Quoi's alcoholism, but justified it by the need to win the war and defend innocent beings.
