Clone trooper snipers were elite, specially trained clone troopers that served during the Clone Wars. They also worked with Clone snipers.
History[]
Just like some other elite clone troopers, including AT-TE gunners, they received training from ARC troopers. Their training consisted of extensive accuracy tests and assessments of their stealth and survival skills. Many troops were rejected from the program, but the end result was a set of extremely skilled snipers.
When the Clone Wars broke out in 22 BBY, the snipers were mixed with the ranks of clone troopers from all different legions and battalions. They proved very successful in taking out enemies from afar, and were quickly distinguished as some of the best troops in the Grand Army of the Republic.
The snipers became especially useful when the less numerous clone commandos were unavailable. Clone snipers usually operated within units of troopers, breaking off from the group when they were needed for important jobs, such as assassination or elimination of powerful enemies.
After the activation of Order 66, clone snipers were absorbed into the ranks of the Galactic Empire's stormtroopers, like all other clone troopers. They soon became the Empire's feared stormtrooper snipers.

The clone Trooper snipers wore a set of armor very similar to basic clone trooper armor. Besides for the helmet, the Phase I and Phase II variants of the sniper armor were almost completely the same. Clone trooper sniper's armor was made of a more expensive, slightly softer, but stronger plastoid-alloy. This made little noise when two pieces of the armor hit each other, ensuring stealth when moving about. The soles of the boots were very flexible and soft, and made no sound whatsoever when walking. In the event that the sniper fell, the armor would make no sound when it impacted a surface.
The helmets of the snipers looked similar to the helmets of most clone troopers. However, the helmet did have a rangefinder that fed information on targets to the clone trooper. The conversations the clone trooper had over their comlinks could only be heard by the sniper and any participant in the conversation. The dense alloy of the helmet prevented anyone outside the helmet from hearing the wearer, unless a certain speaker setting was turned on by the wearer.
Clone trooper snipers carried a DC-17sn sniper rifle. The rifle was lightweight, very long, and required a lot of ammunition. Because of this, clone trooper snipers wore a strap, slung around their chests, which had extra ammunition strapped to them.
All white sniper armor was also worn by early Imperial stormtrooper snipers.
