The Cleansing of Ekshi was a term used in the Golden Empire to describe Queen Rin Sakaros's efforts to make amends to the Colorrbiz of Ekshi for the tyranny of the traitor Consul Vessyk in 127 ABY.
Background[]
Installed as Consul of Ekshi in 121 ABY, the Centurion Vessyk initially desired to make his world a model member of the Golden Empire. He suppressed some freedoms and ruled with a firm hand, using his political skills to subtly influence the parties of Ekshi's parliament to quibble with each other. With the legislature deadlocked, he was able to pass several restrictive decrees under his own authority.
After some time, however, Vessyk began to enjoy his power and control, and became more concerned with expanding both than with serving Rin. He created a personal gendarmerie and a secret police squad; the former kept the Colorrbiz in line openly with displays of force and severe reactions to protests, while the latter eliminated dissidents and their families quietly.
Following a fire intentionally set by Vessyk to eliminate a district whose tax production had been noticeably below quota, the Colorrb Niximot Grundo broke into a communication station and managed to get a message to Rin Sakaros.
Tyrannicide[]
Outraged, Rin journeyed to Ekshi with a force of Centurions to investigate the situation for herself. Horrified at what she discovered, she led an attack on the Consul's Palace. Her Centurions easily slaughtered Vessyk's guards, and Rin tore down the thirty-foot doors of the Palace with the Force to confront Vessyk herself. The two dueled briefly, but Rin defeated Vessyk and subjected him to Kasshralhyot.
Cleansing[]
With Vessyk utterly destroyed, Rin set about making amends for his abuses. The 13th and 16th Massassi Cohorts landed on Ekshi and led a short and one-sided assault on Vessyk's gendarmerie. All the troops who had supported Vessyk's regime were executed immediately, while the members of his secret police force were rounded up and publically hanged. Political prisoners were released and reunited with their families.
Rin ordered a massive influx of funds to rebuild damaged and delapidated infrastructure, and Vessyk's palace was torn down and its treasures sold off to finance rebuilding the district Vessyk had set on fire. Rin herself personally assisted in the construction of a hospital in one of the outlying regions. A scholarship program was set up to fund tertiary education for children of those unjustly executed by Vessyk.
Eskol Kaartinen was made the new Consul of Ekshi, and his wisdom and fairness did much to rehabilitate the image of the Golden Empire in the eyes of the Colorrbiz.
