The Chie were a sentient, flightless avian species native to Chie'kyr.

Biology and appearance[]

The Chie were an avian species from the planet Chie'kyr. They were covered in feathers, which came in a wide variety of colors depending on genetics, region and diet. Vestigial wings were present in the form of feathered ridges along the arms. Feathered ridges also adorned their heads, these being sensitive to air currents. The Chie possessed hooked beaks and primarily ate meat, although they were capable of eating nearly anything. Though classified as avian, they exhibited at least one mammalian trait, in that the females had breasts. The Chie had exceptional eyesight, reflexes, coordination, and motor skills, as well as strong muscles and a light, hollow skeleton. These traits made them formidable in combat. The Chie matured fast physically, but continued to mature socially and mentally throughout their lives.

Society and Culture[]

Chie culture was based on equality, upheld by a strong sense of honor. Within the Chie government, every citizen had equal rights, and was allowed to participate in any event. In the style of a monarchy, the title of Emperor of the Chie was passed down through the ruling family, but a re-election could be called by the citizens at any time if they were unhappy with their current Emperor. The Chie were a militaristic culture, boasting one of the most powerful armies in The Galaxy in their time.

History[]

Early History[]

The Chie evolved from flightless birds on the planet Chie'kyr. The original Chie were wandering nomads, scattered across the planet. As time passed, they began to build more and more permanent buildings, those becoming grander and grander. Technologically, the Chie developed quickly, but the planet remained largely pristine due to the lack of polluting "fossil fuels". Instead, the Chie used renewable energy, especially wind and solar. By roughly 1500 BBY, each of the planet's three continents was home to a different political faction of Chie: the Kyyreekyn Empire, the Vyeeryn Empire, and the Lyyriryn-Shyndosyn Empire. Circa 1000 BBY, the three empires united to form the Chie Empire. Throughout what would be known as the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War to the rest of the Galaxy, the Chie salvaged technology from crashed spacecraft, allowing them to develop craft capable of spaceflight. One Jedi survivor of a crash was cared for by the Chie, learning Chieen and taking Kyaa Chy'yrdin as his Padawan, and eventually naming her a Jedi. The Chie reverse-engineered blasters, lightfoils, vehicles, and other weapons and nonmilitary equipment.

Yuuzhan Vong War[]

Near the beginning of the Yuuzhan Vong War, the Chie made their first successful spaceflight, using technology developed from crashed ships.. During the launch of the Chie spacefleet, when they planned to make contact with the Galaxy, a Yuuzhan Vong battlefleet intercepted the Chie in orbit. The Chie fleet was quickly overcome, but gave the ground troops time to prepare. The Battle of Chie'kyr started when the Vong, arial attack thwarted by Chie shielding of important locations, sent down troop carriers to the surface of the planet. The Vong armies met the Chie on the Plains of Kyyreek, just outside the planetary capital of Chie'kyreek. Originally, the Vong attacked with an all-out rush, but were stopped in their tracks by the larger, better-supplied Chie army. The Chie then advanced, cutting the invaders down with an assortment of weapons. The surviving Yuuzhan Vong fled to space. At this point, the two forces reached a stalemate. The Chie spacefleet had been all but wiped out early on, and could not challenge the Vong in orbit, but the Vong, in turn, could not attack the more powerful Chie ground forces. Thus, for several Standard Years, the two simply licked their wounds, in a siege peppered with occasional skirmishes. At the end of the war, the Vong fleet was called away to Yuuzhan'tar. The Chie fleet, improved during the siege, attacked the retreating army, destroying it. The Chie then made contact with the Galaxy, and joined the Galactic Alliance.

Post-Yuuzhan Vong War[]

Gaining a reputation as chivalrous during the recovery from the Vong War when they helped shelter refugees and heal the ecosystems of several nearby planets, the Chie remained neutral during the Dark Nest Crisis. They were forced to withdraw to and defend the Kyr system when the Second Galactic Civil War erupted in 40 ABY, managing to escape relatively unscathed due to a large fleet and low presence in the Galaxy. Managing to escape the bloody conflict without major losses, they joined the Galactic Alliance (and later the Galactic Alliance Remnant) in resisting Darth Krayt's Sith Empire. The Chie helped the GA win one of their first victories in the Anti-Sith Insurgency, defeating an Imperial fleet in the Battle of Agamon, winning with a decisive maneuver wherein the enemy flagship was destroyed from within by a bomb.
