Cheer, Boys, Cheer! was a rousing marching song and poem of the Confederate States Army, the army of the Confederate States of Earth, an alliance of 95 Conservative and Nationalist nations of the Western hemisphere of Earth which broke away from the Union of Earth States.
Tthe poem was originally written by Captain Edmund Tisley, of the 17th Norland Infantry Brigade and was set to tune of the earlier Zarkan Kingdom colonial folk song of the same name by Harold Kingsley, the song was extremely popular in the Confederacy, and was included in Patriotic Songs and Anthems of Confederate Earth, a best selling patriotic songbook, which further helped the song's popularity.
The Parliament of the Confederate States of Earth considered making the song the official Confederate anthem, though decided to give it unofficial anthem status, the Confederate States Army also gave the song unofficial anthem status.
Lyrics[]
Cheer, Boys, Cheer! We now march away to battle!
Cheer, Boys, Cheer! For our sweethearts and our wives!
Cheer, boys, cheer, be rous'd by war's rattle,
And give our Confederacy our hearts and our lives!
Bring forth the flag, glorious banner of our land,
Wave her on high, look upon her folds with a sigh!
Mighty, she floats, waving o'er our proud, noble band,
Then cheer, boys, cheer, for her with a mighty, long cry!
Cheer, Boys, Cheer! We now march away to battle!
Cheer, Boys, Cheer! For our sweethearts and our wives!
Cheer, boys, cheer, be rous'd by war's rattle,
And give our Confederacy our hearts and our lives!
And as we march, with our heads held proudly up-bending,
Let us implore a blessing from Heav'n on high.
Our cause is just, our liberty we're defending,
And Almighty God will give blessings to our cries!
Cheer, Boys, Cheer! We now march away to battle!
Cheer, Boys, Cheer! For our sweethearts and our wives!
Cheer, boys, cheer, be rous'd by war's rattle,
And give our Confederacy our hearts and our lives!
Though, we may fall, prev'nting the foe's assault,
And we may never take our wives in arms once more.
Should God will us enter the blued vault,
Lov'd ones we'll meet, our names shall live in yore!
Cheer, Boys, Cheer! We now march away to battle!
Cheer, Boys, Cheer! For our sweethearts and our wives!
Cheer, boys, cheer, be rous'd by war's rattle,
And give our Confederacy our hearts and our lives!
