Charg was a Kadas'sa'Nikto Jedi Knight. Serving the Galactic Republic in the years leading up to the New Sith Wars, he resigned his commission and left the order along with eleven other Knight and Masters. In a long period of waking stasis, Charg fell to the dark side along with all his comrades. When they awoke, they began the Nightmare War against the Golden Empire, and Charg fought at the front lines until its final battle.
Biography[]
The Unifying Force[]
Born on the Nikto homeworld of Kintan in 2,025 BBY, Charg was taken as a Jedi Initiate shortly after birth. He trained at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant until becoming the Padawan of a Human Jedi Master. During his apprenticeship, Charg's master regularly critiqued him for becoming too fixated on longer-term events without focusing on the moment. Though he trained as a Jedi Guardian, Charg meditated often and tried to intuit how single events fit into the grand scheme of the Force.
Despite their philosophical disagreements, Charg's master felt his Padawan had developed as much as he could while a student by 2,003 BBY, and Charg passed his Jedi Trials that year. As a Knight, the Nikto was often assigned as an active peacekeeper. While generally successful, he was more than once called before the Jedi High Council to explain his actions in the field; he had a tendency to forego immediate mission objectives in pursuit of some alternative plan which could bring the entire mission together in the end. The Council was divided about Charg's approach, although the Jedi Seers on the Council felt the Nikto was simply more open to the Unifying Force than others.
The grand scheme[]
Charg had resolved to take a Padawan of his own when Darth Ruin emerged as a Sith Lord. Fifty Jedi Knights defected from the Order and joined the new Sith, and the Jedi Order prepared for war against the dark siders. Charg, however, doubted whether the Jedi would have the ability to defeat Ruin and his followers. He felt the Jedi should pursue an alternate approach rather than direct combat, but the few Jedi to whom he expressed his theory felt he was ignoring reality…except one.
Fellow Jedi Knight Voara Culee asked Charg to speak with her former mentor, Master Ador Hentral. Hentral admitted that he and several other Jedi had found they could not reconcile themselves to what they viewed as the Order's warmongering, and were planning to leave the Jedi to seek peace and the will of the Force elsewhere. Though somewhat confused, Charg admitted he could not see a war with the Sith leading the Jedi anywhere they should go, and agreed to accompany the dissident group away.
The dark[]
The Jedi set out from Coruscant in a sleeper ship, intending to freeze themselves in stasis and awaken when their ship had arrived at a habitable system. Shortly after departure, however, the ancient technology malfunctioned. The minds of the Jedi awakened, but their bodies were kept paralyzed in stasis.
Communicating with one another telepathically, the Jedi attempted to keep their spirits up, but the possibility of years or even centuries in waking paralysis gradually allowed fear to infect some of them. As some fell into madness, others quickly followed, the dark side like a contagion among their linked minds. Charg fell into fixation on these communal feelings of misery and terror, and he was dragged down into darkness along with all his comrades.
Single-minded[]
When the Jedi ship finally emerged from hyperspace at Kizav and the Jedi unfroze, it was 148 ABY, and twenty-one centuries had passed. Charg's deep descent into the dark side had turned him into a ruthless killer, and he fell upon the native Skavik with reckless abandon, killing indiscriminately until Hentral and Desha Marad reined the group in. At the front lines during the genocide on Awpierh, Charg followed his initial brutality with rape and murder during the devastation of several worlds of the Golden Empire. His ability to remain focused on a task led Hentral to appoint him as a deputy commander.
Sent back to Awpierh to supervise the continued construction of weapons for the enslaved Skavik, Charg and Karshi Saan were present when Nairasho and the Porén twins discovered the facility. After a brief duel, he disarmed Nairasho, while a force of Vyrak clones assisted in apprehending the three Centurions. Charg participated in their torture, using physical means of coercion while Saan attempted to break into their minds. When the twins escaped, Charg refused to pursue them or allow Saan to do so, insisting that they redouble their efforts to break Nairasho.
When her mental defenses finally collapsed, the two Dark Jedi acquired all the useful information they could. Charg ordered Saan to remain on Awpierh and attempt to recapture the twins, while he himself returned to Kizav to take the intelligence to Hentral and Marad. Charg took to drilling new Vyrak clones in combat while Marad worked on an advanced, bioweapon version of the Sickness. He fought during the Battle of Quadia, retreating with Culee and Vev Nar and leaving Tirj to his fate. Charg was with the Dark Jedi fleet when Rin Sakaros destroyed Kizav, and with Hentral when the Adarian received Tariun Sakaros's taunting proclamation from Dolomir that the Dark Jedi had been beaten.
Fixated on destroying his enemies, Charg allowed Voara Culee to lead his attack group onto the Sith Star during the Battle of Dolomir. His increasingly twisted mind attached to the idea of making hats out of his slain enemies, and he delighted in Culee's plan of slaughtering the Novices taking refuge in the Citadel. When the strike force was met by Eskol Kaartinen, Vos'elk'eetash, and Te`net Organi, along with a squad of battle droids and a pair of Massassi, Charg happily threw himself into the fight. He dueled Selkee personally, and was gleeful to see the Chiss cowering down before him. As he swung a massive finishing blow, however, she sprang over him and decapitated him in midair.
Powers and abilities[]
Charg was an accomplished lightsaber duelist and considered by the Jedi to have unusual proficiency for one so young. He had chosen to specialize in Shien, as his height and muscular build fit well with the form's emphasis on physical dominance. While he was equal to the task of sparring with the Vyrak Legionnaires without getting himself hurt or killed, his skills were ultimately insufficient to defeat Vos'elk'eetash.
Though neither a Jedi Seer nor particularly given to prophecy, Charg possessed a deeply insightful nature and a connection to the Unifying Force. He was often able to see disparate elements and find common links among them, or intuit solutions to problems beyond the immediate circumstances. It was he who insisted that the force on Awpierh continue interrogating Nairasho rather than searching for the escaped Porén twins, sensing that Nairasho was more important.
Appearance and personality[]
A Kadas'sa'Nikto, Charg had gray-green skin and long climbing claws. He stood 1.88 meters (6'2") tall and had gray eyes. As a Jedi, he carried a single, straight-hilt lightsaber with a blue blade; he exchanged the focusing crystal for a red one when he awoke at Kizav.
Due to his strong focus on the Unifying Force, Charg often dedicated himself entirely to a course of action when he was sure it was right. He had a quick mind and could readily assess a number of solutions to any problem, but would commit wholeheartedly once he settled on one. As a Dark Jedi, this creativity continued, but his commitment to plans mutated into an obsessed fixation on whatever dominated his mind. This proved of use to the Dark Jedi when deploying him with a specific objective, but if he was only unleashed to cause destruction, he could become unpredictable, such as during the devastation of some Royal worlds and in his final duel with Selkee.
