Chak Ravartin, service number 4503-3682SF, was a Human male from Coruscant who had enlisted in the Republic Marines at age eighteen in the hopes of becoming a starfighter pilot. As the Jedi Civil War kicked into gear when Darths Revan and Malak began their offensive against the Galactic Republic, Ravartin had finished his training, upon which he was assigned to the 23rd Marine Starfighter Squadron. Flying the Aurek tactical strikefighter, he and his unit initially staged from the Centurion-class battlecruiser Stalwart Defender, and later the Hammerhead-class cruiser Horseshoe.
Biography[]
Recruited from an upper-class family, Chak had grown up toying with swoops and speeder bikes. Spending his teen years on the amateur swoop circuit, his piloting skills caught the attention of Marine Corps recruiters. During flight school, he developed a reputation for being incredibly superstitious; this, combined with his odd accent, made a few of his fellow trainees think that he was actually some sort of alien in Human form. He graduated with good marks, and was assigned to an operational unit only a few weeks before the outbreak of the Jedi Civil War.
Chak's first combat mission, with the 23rd Marine Starfighter Squadron, took him to the Roche asteroid field, where he participated in the Republic's diversionary raid. He continued to serve with the 23rd for several years, eventually earning a promotion to Lieutenant, until the Horseshoe was destroyed in combat over Taris along with its sister ship, the Endar Spire. Fortunately for the surviving members of the 23rd, the third vessel in the convoy, the Delta Dagger, was able to pick them up and retreat from the scene before Malak's Sith forces closed in.
Lieutenant Ravartin, along with the reformed 23rd Squadron, saw action once again at the Battle of Rakata Prime, where the squadron's Aurek fighters escorted the redeemed Revan, aboard the Ebon Hawk, and a small squadron of Jedi-piloted craft in their efforts to penetrate the defenses of the Star Forge and board the massive battle station and factory in order to destroy it. During the resulting space battle, Ravartin finally made ace, shooting a Sith interceptor off of one of the Jedi transports as the Star Forge was bombarded by the Fleet.
Behind the scenes[]
Chak Ravartin was named by fan fiction author Sean "Goodwood" Nash for the Buddhist concept and Star Wars Fanon Wiki user Chakravartin. His initial article and biography were written as a sort of inside joke. His initial appearance as a character in Star Wars: Saber Battalion, however, established a backstory that Nash will be expanding upon in a series of journal entries which will be collected at the end of 2014.
