Old Republic era

Cesylee Kaivalt was a female Jedi Knight of the Tapani sector. A descendant of Jedi Master Donarius Kaivalt through his grandson Vinton by his wife Cyndobel, Cesylee was her parents' middle child—she was three years younger than her sister Kaelora and three older than her brother Gaebrean. In maturity, their uncle Miklato considered her the least skillful swordsbeing of the three, though she was a natural diplomat and a polyglot. Cesylee was always close with her cousins Raina and Raven, and when the twins announced their intention to become Knights of the Republic, Cesylee was curious and asked many questions, but ultimately supported them.

In 1,385 BBY, after the Battle of Eriadu, Miklato gave shelter to a group of Republic Jedi at Inimă Eserzennae. When the Jedi began planning to assassinate Vedya Gasald before she could kill anyone else, High Lord Chiron Brascel gave his leave to any Pelagian Jedi to join the mission and announced his intention to go himself. While Kaelora objected to the mission on tactical grounds, Cesylee initially considered going, as were Raven, Gaebrean, and Kaelora's fiancé, Sir Amaani Wisté. However, Cesylee ultimately opted not to go when former Sith apprentice Zaella Sabir joined the mission; though Cesylee did not believe Zaella beyond redemption, she felt Zaella would turn to the dark side instinctively in the face of mortal danger, and believed the mission doomed to failure unless it was born from a place of pure light.

The mission more or less succeeded—Gasald went missing in action, and her flagship, the Kiss of Death, was destroyed—but both Amaani and Gaebrean were killed in the struggle. Cesylee went with her family to Inimă Eserzennae to meet the survivors (Kaelora had sensed her fiance's death), and ultimately comforted her father when he unleashed his temper on Raven and Tirien Kal-Di.

While managing her own grief, Cesylee also attempted to help Kaelora, who was crippled by losing Amaani and Gaebrean. When the siblings received word that Raina and Raven had gone to Mizra shortly after their father's ascension to High Lord of House Pelagia, it snapped Kaelora out of her grief paralysis, and she and Cesylee resolved to serve their house not merely as noble functionaries, but as only Jedi Knights could. A Sith operation days later destroyed Inimă Eserzennae and killed both Miklato and Vinton, but Cesylee struggled through her renewed grief to support Kaelora as she became the new High Lady.
