Carilia Conrose, nicknamed Cari, was a Twi'lek Jedi Knight. The only apprentice of Saesee Tiin, she became Tallisibeth Enwandung-Esterhazy's third master during the Clone Wars.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Carilia Conrose was born on Ryloth and at the age of two she was discovered by Jedi Master Coleman Trebor. Trebor sensed the Twi'lek girls strong connection to the Force and once his mission on Ryloth was complete, he took her with him to the Jedi Temple.

Carilia was raised in the Jedi Temple and was a quiet and solitary girl, preferring to spend her time reading about history. She learned about the Valley of the Dark Lords and the long abandoned title of Jedi Sentinel; a title she would later take for herself. Carilia was also a talented student and was trained by Yoda and Cin Drallig as a youngling, although her clear lack of interest in duelling stopped her from really honing her natural talent for lightsaber combat. When she was sixteen, Carilia was almost sent to the Agricultural Corps due to being past the usual age for starting her apprenticeship. However, Jedi Master Saesee Tiin was nudged by either the spirit of Omo Bouri or the Force itself into taking her as his student, making Carilia the only Padawan that Master Tiin ever trained.

When Carilia was eighteen, she and her Master visited Ryloth to stop a slave trading operation. While they were there, Carilia grew close to Cham Syndulla who was also trying to find a way to free the slaves. Eventually they discovered that Jabba the Hutt was organising the slave trading and that it was being overseen by Cad Bane. Carilia, Tiin and Syndulla sneaked aboard a stolen Republic cruiser which was being used to transport the slaves. However they were discovered and captured.

Carilia was put in a cell with other slaves but Tiin managed to escape and free her. Carilia saved Syndulla's life during the ensuing skirmish managing to prevent him from being sucked into the vacuum of space when a viewport was smashed. During the battle, the slaves, despite lack of combat training, fought against the bounty hunters along with the Jedi and Syndulla, who saved Carilia from being cut to pieces by a bounty hunter wielding a cortosis blade which caused her lightsaber to stop working.

During her training, Carilia studied Force Healing though due to Saesee Tiin's lack of knowledge about healing, T'ra Saa filled in for him whenever Carilia was struggling with the power. On numerous occasions the Twi'lek proved herself to be a proficient healer.

Clone Wars[]

Battle of Geonosis[]

Carilia and Saesee accompanied Mace Windu and over two hundred other Jedi to Geonosis to rescue Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Padme Amidala from Count Dooku. Carilia wasn't in the main arena but survived the battle with her friend, Pablo-Jill. In the aftermath, she helped Barriss Offee, T'ra Saa, Stass Allie and Nahdar Vebb heal the wounded. Notably, Carilia was one of only four Padawans, the other three being Anakin, Barriss and, albeit only due to being relatively safe in the space battle, Ahsoka Tano, to leave Geonosis alive.

Battle of Vaathkree[]

Carilia was also involved in the battle of Vaathkree alongside Luminara Unduli and Barriss Offee while Saesee Tiin led their space forces. During the time she spent there, Carilia befriended the leader of the Vaathkree by asking him about his nearly three and a half century long life, cleverly integrating her sincere fascination with history with her charm to persuade him to aid the Republic forces. When Luminara complimented her on her manipulation of the Vaathkree leader, Carilia was offended that she'd assumed her interest in his past wasn't genuine and Saesee dryly commented that when it came to history, Carilia could talk to people for hours.

Carilia and her clone troopers later had to fight their way up an active volcano due to the Separatist base that was built into it shooting down most of their aerial support with both the base's own cannons and by manipulating the eruptions. Despite being exhausted after winning the battle, Carilia still worked herself into further exhaustion to save as many clone lives as possible in the aftermath and even put in the effort to learn more about Vaathkree physiology for the injured members of their allies.

Inspired by both her actions in this battle as well as what she'd seen from her on Geonosis, Barriss asked Carilia to give her some instruction on more advanced healing techniques, confiding that Luminara had no idea how to use them.

Due to her handling of the battle, Saesee Tiin recommended that Carilia be promoted to Jedi Knight and the rest of the Jedi Council agreed.

Holocron crisis[]
Meeting Scout[]

Carilia later met her future Padawan, Tallisibeth Enwandung-Esterhazy, for the first time in the Jedi library after the younger Jedi confronted Ord Enisence about threatening a Youngling, Katooni. Noting that Enisence's aggression was out of character, Carilia telepathically contacted Saesee Tiin and told him about Enisence's behaviour. Saesee informed her that the scanners had behaved strangely for a second and ordered her to check the ventilation system. Carilia and her friend, Pablo-Jill, went into the vents and split up, with Pablo confronting Cad Bane and Carilia following the bounty hunter's techno-service droid, narrowly avoiding the explosion when Bane remotely blew it up.

Carilia returned and was horrified to find that Pablo-Jill had been killed by Bane. Upon returning to the library, she found that Saesee had captured the Cawdite intruder pretending to be Enisence. Carilia admitted to Tallisibeth and Katooni that she wasn't alright but tried to lighten the mood when Saesee said they would report to the Council by saying that she would actually be doing the report while he sat and brooded with his fellow Council members.

Encounter with the second Sith[]
"Another bloody volcano planet."
―Carilia dryly notes her almost back-to-back missions to two volcanic planets.

As Carilia was headed to assist Jace Kalbone on Delrakkin, she was contacted by T'ra Saa who redirected her to Mustafar to rescue a pair of missing children. Carilia fought two Magnaguards and was caught off guard when one of them kept fighting without its head, resulting in her being disarmed and temporarily subdued before she was dragged in front of a hologram of Darth Sidious. Unable to identify him due to his hood and changed voice, Carilia was horrified when Sidious Force choked her through the hologram from a completely different system, realising he could snap her neck with a twitch of his finger if he wasn't toying with her. However, the resourceful Twi'lek managed to use The Force to switch off Sidious' astromech before smashing it with one of the Magnaguards electrostaffs to ensure that the Sith Lord couldn't reactivate the hologram from his end.

Carilia then fought the two Magnaguards, managing to destroy the disarmed one with its own electrostaff but received a leg injury from the other. Retrieving her lightsaber, Carilia managed to destroy the second Magnaguard before Sidious' nanny droid told her it had activated the base's self-destruct sequence. Carilia used the Force to snatch the two kidnapped toddlers away from the nanny droid and fled, managing to reach her ship before the base exploded and sank into Mustafar's lava, erasing all traces of Sidious' involvement. However, Carilia's testimony as an eyewitness confirmed that there was a second Sith Lord, influencing Quinlan Vos' later obsession with finding and destroying him.

Personality and traits[]

Carilia Conrose was a kind, patient, gentle and highly intelligent woman who preferred to settle conflicts by talking rather than fighting. Despite her preference for diplomacy, she would use her green lightsaber when the situation demanded it and was a highly skilled and resourceful Jedi Knight, utilising creativity, quick-thinking and intuition to survive numerous scenarios where most others would fall. She notably survived an encounter with Darth Sidious by, despite being Force choked and frightened for not only her own life but the lives of the children she was rescuing, quickly and cleverly assessing the situation and taking advantage of the fact that Sidious was a hologram instead of being physically present. She switched off the hologram telekinetically before destroying its source to ensure that Sidious couldn't reactivate it from his end and finish her off. Despite being capable of feats that few other Jedi could pull off, Carilia wasn't a cocky or aggressive woman. On the contrary, she was fully aware of her own vulnerabilities and her gentle and humble nature was a stark contrast to her gruff and hard-headed master, Saesee Tiin. She was very compassionate and was even willing to heal people that tried to kill her, being strongly devoted to respecting all life, regardless of how deplorable her enemies were.

Despite her young age, Carilia was extremely wise and believed that love was a double edged sword and that although it could turn a Jedi to the dark side it could also turn them back from the dark side. She used the relationship of Revan and Bastila Shan to demonstrate her point and was also aware of the relationship between Tholme and T'ra Saa. Despite this, Carilia also believed that a Jedi should be prepared for the possibility that they might have to break their own heart. Carilia believed that Jedi should accept love and attachment instead of hide from it, considering the rule on attachment to be unfair and ridiculous since forming attachments was part of life. Because of her unorthodox view on attachment she ignored that part of the Jedi Code in a way that many Jedi considered disrespectful. Carilia's strong mind was shown by the fact that she was willing to take disapproval and harsh words from higher ranking Jedi for the sake of sticking to her beliefs.

Carilia was also very humble, honest and unwilling to hide who she really was. She never tried to act like an invincible Jedi, instead showing people that she was a woman who had fears and insecurities just like everyone else. Because of this, Carilia felt emotions very deeply, being able to control anger and hatred but openly displaying sorrow whenever people died, channelling her negative emotions into more healthy displays of grieving. Saesee Tiin initially disapproved of the fact that Carilia would cry openly but upon realizing that it was a far more healthy expression of emotion than Jedi who denied or suppressed their feelings altogether, he stopped lecturing her about it. Carilia did not think of herself as someone who could change the Jedi Order, simply someone who had a different point of view from most Jedi. Although she never displayed any vanity, Carilia was aware of her beauty and could always tell when males were admiring her. Like most female Twi'leks she was capable of using her beauty to seduce other people if necessary, although she preferred not to do this since it made her feel uncomfortable.

Carilia had a deep fascination with history and despite normally being calm and composed, she was very excitable and enthusiastic whenever she discussed her passion or discovered new information about the past. Although she was officially trained as a Jedi Guardian, she thought she was better suited to the title of Jedi Sentinel, a title that hadn't been used in centuries. Carilia also knew about the Valley of the Dark Lords on Korriban, as well as the story of Revan and Bastila Shan. Unlike many Jedi, who either focused on the present or the future, Carilia knew that many things could be learned from studying the past, and her massive knowledge of history was the source of her wisdom.

Carilia also hated flying, unless it was a peaceful flight, and tried to avoid space battles when she could. Saesee Tinn appeared to be unaware of this since he gave her a ship as a gift after she became a Jedi Knight. Carilia interpreted this as Saesee's attempt at a joke, wryly commenting that her former Master couldn't comprehend what humour actually was.

Carilia was close friends with T'ra Saa, being fully aware of the fact that she was in love with Tholme and considering the Neti to be an inspiration as both a Jedi and a person. Master Saa had personally taken Carilia under her wing to learn Force Healing. Carilia was also friends with Pablo-Jill, who had helped her survive the Battle of Geonosis, and was devastated when she found his dead body.

Powers and abilities[]

Lightsaber skills[]

Although Carilia was peaceful by nature, she was a talented swordswoman. A master of Form I: Shii-Cho, the young Twi'lek was one of only three Padawans, the others being Anakin Skywalker and Barriss Offee, who managed to survive the disastrous ground assault on Geonosis at the beginning of the Clone Wars. Saesee Tiin insisted that if Carilia allowed herself to fight with a more emotionally heated mindset, her skill in Shii-Cho could reach the same level as both himself and Kit Fisto. However, Carilia acknowledged that she would have been killed on Geonosis if Pablo-Jill wasn't helping her and admitted to Tallisibeth Enwandung-Esterhazy that she didn't consider herself a true master of Form I as she had mastered the swordplay but the aggressive mindset required for true mastery contradicted to her gentle personality. Because of this, the Twi'lek decided to study Form VII: Niman as its more relaxed and creative mindset was not only better suited to Carilia's personality but also balanced out her fighting style and compensated for Shii-Cho's weaknesses.

While her mastery of Shii-Cho was due to Saesee Tiin's training, Carilia's skill in Niman was almost entirely self-taught, relying on creativity, intuition, her environment, and anything around her, including her enemies' own weapons, instead of raw skill with her lightsaber alone. This made Carilia an extremely versatile fighter who could be surprisingly dangerous simply due to how unpredictable she was, despite the fact that many lightsaber duellists were technically superior in terms of raw skill. In keeping with the spirit of Niman, Carilia took elements from various lightsaber forms and implemented them into her style, including Form V's precise blaster deflection and Form II's and Form IV's agile footwork. When Tallisibeth Enwandung-Esterhazy asked if she was a practitioner of all forms, Carilia confirmed that she wasn't, clarifying that these techniques all fell into the jack-of-all-trades approach of Form VII. Despite being self-taught, Carilia showed a considerable understanding of Form VII's underlying principles and T'ra Saa believed that the young Twi'lek was one of the very few Jedi in the Clone Wars era who had the potential to become a true master of Niman.

Carilia was able to defeat two Magnaguards single-handedly while rescuing kidnapped children on Mustafar. After being disarmed, she temporarily used one of their own electrostaffs against them but recognised that her lightsaber combat training simply didn't apply to electrostaffs, so she finished the job by retrieving her lightsaber, though she received an injury to her leg before doing so.

Force powers[]

Carilia was a skilled healer, frequently engaging in clean-up operations after battles and using her powers to save the lives of wounded Jedi and clones. She acknowledged the limitations of Force Healing though and once a patient was beyond help, she simply focussed on making their passing as painless as possible. Carilia pointed out to Anakin Skywalker that even T'ra Saa, the most powerful healer in the Jedi Order, couldn't bring people back from the dead.

Carilia was a master of Jedi Mind Tricks and used this ability to try and settle things peacefully rather than engaging in combat.

Carilia was a highly skilled telepath and one of the very few Jedi who could have entire conversations with telepathy alone. Due to her Force Bond with Saesee Tiin, they could communicate and coordinate very efficiently without the need for words or communication devices. However, it was much harder for her to have telepathic conversations with Tallisibeth Enwandung-Esterhazy due to Tallisibeth's weak Force connection. In situations where it was the only means for them to communicate though, such as if their comms were destroyed, Carilia could still guide and instruct her Padawan from a distance.

Remarkably, Carilia was the only Jedi in the Clone Wars who survived an encounter with Darth Sidious, albeit only because the Dark Lord of the Sith was in hologram form. Despite being Force choked, she managed to use telekinesis to switch off Sidious' astromech droid, cutting off the Sith Lord's connection and ensuring his Force powers couldn't reach her due to the vast space between Mustafar and Coruscant.

Other abilities[]

Despite her hatred of flying, Carilia was an excellent pilot, having been trained by one of the greatest pilots in the Jedi Order, Saesee Tiin. However, she preferred to command space battles from a Republic cruiser rather than participate in them. She was also a talented strategist, having learned many tricks from the countless history holocrons she had read.

Carilia was also a skilled negotiator and like many female Twi'lek's, she was capable of using her charm and beauty to get people to cooperate with her. This, combined with her considerable skill in Jedi Mind Tricks, made it difficult for even a strong willed person to resist her.
