I refuse to submit to your Emperor's rule. My allegiance is to the Republic.

Biography[]

Military Creation Act[]

Palpatine has never been behind the Military Creation Act, and was ready to stall it when the leader of the opposition appeared to be dead. Would he have done so if it was a pro-military Senator who was killed? And when she showed up alive, he postpones the vote anyway. I seriously doubt whether he had intended for the vote to pass today at all.
—Candabrine Bu explaining her story about the Act been postponed by Palpatine during the Crisis.[src]

Born in the year 57 BBY, Candabrine Bu represented Lansono, a planet located in the Core Worlds, in the Galactic Senate of the Republic. During the Separatist Crisis, the Senate was debating the Military Creation Act, a piece of legislation that, if passed, would authorize the creation of an army that would support the Republic. As a pro-military senator, she was among the supporters of the Act. As the Military Creation Act was to be brought before the Senate for a vote, Bu and other proponents of the bill were prepared to cast their ballots when word reached the Senate of an assassination attempt on Senator Padmé Amidala of Naboo, a vehement opponent of the Act.

Amidala was believed dead in the attack, and, to allow for a period of mourning for the senator's passing, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine delayed the vote on the Act until the following day. However, when Amidala was revealed to be alive, Senator Bu was angry at the Chancellor and spoke to HoloNet News, conveying the militarists' frustration over the day's events and accusing the Chancellor of exploiting the assassination attempt on Amidala to derail the Act. Ultimately, the Senate never voted on the Act, but Bu and the other pro-military senators got what they wanted—when word reached the Republic that the Confederacy of Independent Systems was preparing for war, the Senate granted Palpatine emergency powers, which he used to create a Grand Army of the Republic to counter the Separatist threat.

Bu and many delegates were frightened for the future of democracy in the Republic and chose to throw him out of office. Her efforts failed when she and several senators were arrested by the the new Imperial Intelligence after the Republic was reorganized into the first Galactic Empire. Before her arrest, she sent a message to her home planet about the threat in stuff and to stand against this newly corrupt government. She was later executed by the Imperial Intelligence for refusing to submit to Emperor Palpatine's rule.
