The CA-9 crab droid was specially designed for blowing a hole through walls, or in this case drilling. The CA-9 wasn't necessarily a combat model, but due to increasing amounts of money to reproduce all of these units that were lost, they fitted them with two blaster on either side for protection. This model became obsolete when the A-10 spider droid came into production.
