We are the descendants of birds, however we have lost our wings and have gained arms instead. Our avian heritage can still be seen though.
—A Bregaran speaking about his avian heritage.

Background and history[]

The Bregaro (Singular: Bregaran, Plural: Bregaro, or (rarely) Bregarans) were an Avian sentient species from the planet Yux'jokikeva in the Ingza system of the N'Akkiarl Galaxy. They ruled the Bregaro Triple Planetary Chain as the Empire of the Bregaro. the Triple Planetary Chain was located in the Ingza system a little away from the Ingzan planet system was ruled by the Ingza.

The evolution of our civilization was similar to your own one, like your ancestors our ancestors were tribal hunter-gatherers, before founding cities, farming and the like.
—A Bregaran to an Ingzan, discussing his ancient forebears and how similar the ancient Ingza and Bregaro were

Before achieving civilization the ancient Bregaro were tribal, and didn't wear clothing, they were hunter-gatherers, very similar to the evolution of their Ingzan friends.

At some point before encountering the Ingza, the Ektiosh Bregaro developed space-travel and visited the other planets in their planetary chain, on Tuvizokeva, the neighbouring world of Yux'jokikeva, they met their cousins, the Ivtiosh Bregaro, and colonished Tuvizokeva. After defeating the Ivtiosh in the Ektiosh-Ivtiosh War, the Ektiosh declared the three planets would form the Empire of the Bregaro, despite being a conquered people, the Ivtiosh were treated with respect by the Ektiosh, as the Ektiosh recognized the Ivtiosh as their "family". Eventually, the Ivtiosh were happy to accept being ruled by the Ektioshan cousins. Ivtioshans willing served in the Bregaran Imperial Army and the Bregaran Imperial Navy.

As they shared the same system the Ingza and Bregaro were the among the first aliens each species encountered, and they developed good relations, as well as a union and empire.

—A Bregaran welcoming an Ingzan to his home world

When the N'Akkiarla invaded the Ingza system the Bregaro were the first to fight them, with their Ingzan allies providing support to them. As with every other race which tried to fight the N'Akkiarlians they were defeated and forced to submit to the N'Akkiarlian, the Imperial Government-Commander of the Bregaro officially having to declare the N'Akkiarlians "masters of the Bregaro".

The N'Akkiarlians then turned their attention on the Ingza and later defeated them, around this time the Bregaro rioted for independence, which was supported by the now-servantile Ingzans however the riots were crushed with quite a few Bregaran casualties, the further strained the relations between the Bregaro and their new masters.

Some Bregarans refused to bow at the feet of an invader, these became freedom fighters. Freedom fighters supported the Ingza during the N'Akkiarlian-Ingzan War. They hated the N'Akkiarlians for reducing them to slaves.

During the N'Akkiarlian-Bregaro war and the N'Akkiarlian-Ingzan war Bregaran soldiers and freedom fighters used the Tak-Ekke Model 1 bolt-action rifle, the Tak-Ekke Model 2 "Last Ditch" Bolt-action rifle, the Ingzan Armouries BAR-87 bolt-action rifle as well as captured N'Akkiarlian weaponry.

The Model 2 "Last Ditch" rifle began to enter service at the end of the war and was very shoddily made, the N'Akkiarlians thought it was the worst rifle they had ever faced, the shoulder-rest was poorly fixed to the buttstock so it usually fell of after time, the barrel had to be held in with tape and wire the gun frequently jammed and it's bolt was stiff, it was simply not used in the jungle since the humidity would damage the bolt beyond repair or usability, stripper clips commonly got jammed whilst trying to insert them so soldiers began to load rounds one at a time.

The gun was so poor that soldiers said it was better to be used as a club (or with bayonet-equipped models, a pike) and only to fire it in worst case scenarios since misfires happened and the gun commonly got jammed whilst cycling the bolt. It entered service with the N'Akkiarlian Colonial Police for a short time before they retired it saying batons would be more reliable and dangerous than the Model 2.

Despite these cons the rifle was still being used by some Bregaran freedom fighters during the N'Akkiarlian-Ingzan War.

Anatomy and physiology[]

Like the similar U'k'r'zedolgeiekoo species the Bregaro were descended from birds but had lost the wings their ancestors had, being replaced with arms instead. With an average male height of 6'6", and an average female height of 6'2" they were a bit taller than their Ingzan allies, there are a few anomalies though, e.g. Kysa Zerego was 6'3, which was slightly taller than an average Bregaran woman. However they were shorter than their N'Akkiarlian masters, who were around 7'0" on average.

Religious beliefs[]

Lord Uyuzaat wants justice, peace, unity and order for all of his followers, he also seems to wish for independence of individual beings, he has told us he did not intend for us to worship and serve him, but he accepts our servitude to him with little guilt, as he knows we choose to serve him out of our own free will, so he has nothing to feel guilty about, I have pledged my life to my lord and master, I am his humble servant!
—An Ingzan Disciple of Uyuzaat, speaking about her god

Before meeting the Ingza and forming a union with them, the Bregaro only had one god, Uyuzaat, Uyuzaat was a peaceful god who wanted peace, unity, justice and order for his creations and his followers. Uyuzaat is believed to have been the creator of the Bregaro, but also influenced other species at least partly. He is usually depicted as a large avian humanoid, but is said to take the form of any creature he chooses, however when taking on a mortal form he usually takes the form of either a Bregaran or another avian creature, which caused Bregarans to be greatly respectful to avian species like the Ingzan Blood Eagle for example.

He also had non-Bregaran followers, mostly Ingzan, but some N'Akkiarlian followers as well. He also expressed a wish for individual beings to be independent, which meant he was originally resistant to accepting the worship and servitude of the mortal beings who began to follow him.

A very humble god, he had no wish to be worshipped or served by mortals, he believed himself to be no better than mortals.

Why do you follow and worship me? I am not special or worthy of your worship, I am not your master, I am no better than any of you, please, don't serve me, I respect your decision, but I am here to defend justice and peace, not gather servants!
—The believed first words of Uyuzaat to his new followers, recorded in the Holy Book of Uyuzaat

He later accepted their worship and servitude of him, he promised his followers that their loyalty would be rewarded, he would give them a serene paradise within which to live, free of strife and chaos, then when they died they would join him in his realm.

Very well, my followers, I will accept your worship and wish to serve me and my cause, because you have chosen by your own free will, but rest assured i will reward you greatly for your loyalty to me, i will let you live in a paradise forever, you will live your mortal life in a paradise we will create together, then when you die you will join me in my realm, a place of love and order.
—Uyuzaat accepting the devotion of his followers, in the Holy Book of Uyuzaat

Behind the scenes[]

The Bregaro are based on the Kig-Yar (Jackals) of the Halo series, the "Ektiosh" sub-race is based on the standard Kig-Yar race, whilst the "Ivtiosh" sub-race is based on the "Skirmisher" sub-race.
