Star Wars Fanon
Old Republic era
It's a sequence of boots being shoved up your butt while camping in the wilderness, simple as that.
—Marine Sergeant Denaas Bekuur, on the origin of the term 'boot camp'

Boot camp was the colloquial, informal name given to the Basic Marine Training Regimen, conducted at the various Marine Corps Recruit Training Depots, that all Republic Marine enlisted recruits went through. Starting after an introductory Hell Week, it was divided into three distinct phases, Basic Physical Training, Basic Combat Training, and Advanced Combat and Tactical Training. The last phase of training was a seventy-two hour course known as The Blast Furnace, which combined elements of all previous training that the recruits had undergone.

Behind the scenes[]

The term 'boot camp' is a common English term used to refer to any number of types of training camps, not all of which are military in nature.
