Bon Waverunner, born Bon-Sum but known primarily by her marital name Bon-Yi, was a female Voss who lived on the similarly named planet of Voss during the reign of Zakuul. She was on the cusp of becoming a Voss Mystic like her mother, Tama-Sum, until one of her prospective peers experienced a vision that – the Interpreters decided – made it clear Bon-Yi could not be permitted to face the trials and become a Mystic.
During her pilgrimage, she was intercepted just meters from Shrine of Healing by Voss commandos and escorted back to Voss-Ka, where the situation was explained to her in full. Contrary to societal norms, Bon-Yi felt slighted by the last-minute decision, objecting, and left the planet several weeks later after her husband's death during the Eternal Empire's invasion of Voss.
Following her departure, Bon sought out Benjamin Lambert for help, recalling her mother's tale of her own pilgrimage to the Shine of Healing, where she was saved from Gormak forces by the then-Sith Lord. She received some basic instruction in the Force as the Jedi and Sith knew it, but ultimately chose to seek out a different life, briefly taking a job at Coronet Zoo.
With Lambert's help, Bon-Yi later found work with the Republic Strategic Information Service, putting her abilities to a more altruistic use. She was assigned to an operation on the neutral world of Voryle where she served as a lieutenant in the Cobbled Terentateks street gang alongside Bibi Jotto and Yagogg, an operation that ultimately led to the defeat of the Rabid Akks and the expulsion of the Sith Empire from the planet.
In the aftermath of the Republic's victory, Bon-Yi chose to remain on Voryle, believing she had found where she wanted to be in life. When Isla Ahnkett – the leader of the Cobbled Terentateks – was recalled to Coruscant for reassignment, Carth Waverunner was assigned as a liaison between the gang and the SIS, and Bon began a romantic relationship with the agent not long after his arrival.
The couple eventually married and had two children together, a son and daughter. During the Waverunner Exodus, Bon relocated to Shimka's Well with her husband after he organized the "theft" of Strategic Asset Reassignment Bureau's resources.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Voss-Ka is unchanging. The Mystics see, the Voss act. Voss endures.
—Bon-Yi, when asked about her home.
Born in Voss-Ka on Voss in 0 ATC, Bon-Yi had an uneventful childhood. She spent much of her free time watching off-worlders going about their business in the Alien Enclave Market, often approaching them to ask about life among the stars. Her father disapproved of her fraternizing with anyone who was not Voss.
Her mother encouraged her curiosity, however, and at some point after 11 ATC told her the story of how she became a Mystic thanks to the kindness of an off-worlder; a Sith Lord named Benjamin Lambert who saved her from the hated Gormak during her pilgrimage to the Shrine of Healing and ensured she survived to face the trials.
Unbeknownst to Bon, she had actually approached Lambert shortly after his arrival in Voss-Ka and had a brief conversation with him, though she had never asked his name and had forgotten his face among the hundreds of aliens she saw growing up.
Commandos and Mystics[]
Mystics shape Voss society. To become one is rare, and a great honour. Honour that was taken away from me.
—Bon-Yi, on the topic of her career on Voss.
Like all Voss, Bon joined the forces of the Voss commandos, learning to fight using blaster weapons and hand-to-hand in order to defend Voss-Ka against the legions of hostile Gormak hoping to raze the ancient mountain city. At the age of 20 she married fellow commando Alk-Yi at the insistence of both her and her husband-to-be's parents.
She was competent in battle but in no way remarkable by Voss standards, save one exception: her incredible luck. Voss did not believe in luck, however, and after dozens of instances of Bon making a snap decision that immediately proved to be life-saving – with no overt warning to tip her off – it was decreed that she had the potential to become a Voss Mystic.
Recalled from the commandos, Bon-Yi spent the next few years studying at the Tower of Prophecy in preparation for her pilgrimage and the trials that awaited her. In 23 ATC, she finally began her pilgrimage to the Shrine of Healing. Meanwhile, one of her prospective peers experienced a vision shortly after her departure and following several hours of urgent discussion between the Interpreters it was agreed that – should Bon be permitted to become a Mystic – ruin would come to Voss.
By the time she reached the Shrine of Healing, Voss commandos were stood outside the entrance waiting to intercept her and escort her back to the Tower of Prophecy. Upset and confused, it was explained to Bon-Yi that the vision's message was clear: she would continue her service with the commandos and never become a Mystic, a declaration she was expected to obey without question.
But Bon was angered by the decision, not knowing why she had been singled out and – vision or no vision – growing resentful of those around her. Her parents offered little comfort, reminding her that the Mystics saw, and the Voss obeyed. That was how it was, how it always had been and how it always would be, ensuring Voss would persevere.
Alk was more sympathetic, though – much as she had grown fond of him – he served as another reminder of how her life had been dictated in opposition to her own desires.
Towards the end of the year Bon, her father, her husband Alk and his parents all took part in the defense of Voss-Ka when the Eternal Empire invaded. During the fighting she was separated from her peers and cornered by Skytroopers, only for a bomber strike to snatch her from the clutches of death at the last moment. Tragically, it was this life-saving blast that also killed Bon's father, husband and in-laws, who were moving to assist Bon when the strike landed.
Bon's mother Tama-Sum also died during the attack on the city, being one of the first Voss to die at the hands of Empress Vaylin's Horizon Guard in the first few minutes of the invasion.
Upset, having lost everything that mattered to her and questioning why – if her becoming a Mystic would bring ruin to Voss – she stood in Voss-Ka surrounded by fire, ruins and the bodies of the fallen.
Bon-Yi left with Eternal Alliance forces when they withdrew from the planet, making her way towards Republic space not knowing where she was going or what she wanted from life, but certain that wherever her path lay, it was no longer on Voss.
A New Life[]
Lost[]
My mother spoke of you, the outsider who fought Gormak so that she could join the Mystics.
—Bon-Yi, to Benjamin Lambert.
Learning quickly that life outside of Voss society was far more complicated and dangerous than what she had grown used to, Bon managed to get by on temporary work as a freight handler, loading and unloading cargo ships that arrived at Port Nowhere – which had been seized by the Eternal Alliance in response to attacks orchestrated by Elarea Aldraste and her Crimson Fang minions.
Thanks to her Force sensitivity and the training she had received as a Voss commando, Bon was well-equipped to handle herself in the underworld, her exotic appearance often attracting unwanted attention of both a xenophobic and sexual nature. Often she sensed altercations coming before they did, allowing her to avoid trouble. When she could not avoid doing so, however, she had little trouble proving she was not the easy target she was often mistaken for.
This hostility and the subsequent need for violence on her part led the Voss to begin slipping towards the Dark side of the Force, her resentment and anger being exploited with increasing regularity while fending off the criminals and vagabonds that passed through the port.
By late 24 ATC, Bon was looking into the whereabouts of the Sith Lord who had saved her mother's life years earlier. She hoped to contact him to ask for assistance in beginning a new life outside of Voss, being aware that the Jedi Order held a dim view of her people, a view Bon mistook as condemnation of the Voss as whole, rather than the structure of their society.
It was thanks to her proximity to the galactic underworld that she finally learned where she might find him, discovering that a considerable bounty had been placed on his head by the Sith Empire for an attempted coup against Empress Acina. Bounty hunters frequenting the station lamented that Lambert – now more widely known as Darth Enigmus – had fled to Coruscant, making him too secure for most of the low-level hunters on Port Nowhere to pursue without an incredibly high risk of being identified and arrested.
Bon would have no such issue however: she wanted to talk to Lambert, not murder him, and so after making an effort to confirm the rumors she overheard, the displaced Voss booked passage on a cargo freighter bound for the Core Worlds with the intention of making her way to Galactic City.
At a fuel stop en route, she heard further chatter that suggested Lambert was actually on Corellia and adjusted her course accordingly, finally locating him two weeks later with the help of a retired CorSec officer-turned-private investigator who she met by chance at a bar in Coronet.
The investigator observed the former Darth's movements for a few days before reporting his findings to Bon, revealing that he lived in an apartment complex in Tyrena but journeyed to Coronet early every morning for breakfast at a small café about a mile away from Axial Park. Bon-Yi decided to catch him there, drawing his attention as soon as she entered – for obvious reasons – and wasting no time introducing herself, explaining that she was the daughter of Tama-Sum.
Lambert confirmed that he remembered her and said he was pleased she succeeded in her trials. Bon went on to explain what had driven her to leave Voss (for which she receiving Lambert's condolences) and asked if he could help her find her place in the alien world that was the wider galaxy. Lambert asked what it was she wanted from him, precisely, which forced Bon to concede that – in truth – she did not know.
She suggested that he teach her to use the Force and that, perhaps, becoming a Mystic would have stopped her from becoming a Jedi, and therein lay an explanation for the vision that took away her chance at the tirals. While Lambert agreed it was possible he speculated that – more likely – the losses she had suffered had left her bitter, angry and teetering on the edge of the Dark Side of the Force, making her a potential danger – directly or indirectly – to the Voss way of life had she assumed the role of a Voss visionary.
He told Bon that a prerequisite to deciding where she was heading was to start looking in her direction of travel: dwelling on her past was holding her back and weighing her down. If she wanted his help, he told her he would need to start there.
Cultural Reeducation[]
It's not the same, no, but it also is the same, too. The Force is the Force, it's constant. The people that use it – and how they use – are where the variations start to emerge.
—Benjamin, to Bon-Yi.
Far from the reception she had hoped for, Lambert's insistence on raking up the past – rather than simply teaching her to use the Force immediately – left Bon feeling disenfranchised. She almost considered giving up on accepting his "help" and leaving, unsure if the man her mother had spoke of with such admiration had not simply been put on a pedestal built up through a haze of gratitude and nostalgia.
The prospect of returning to Port Nowhere drained any thoughts she had of changing her course, however, and Bon-Yi traveled to Tyrena later that afternoon, arriving at the Tyrena Heights building by early evening. Lambert welcomed her into his apartment, apologizing for the mess as he had only recently moved in while assuring her that – despite appearances – they would have ample space to train by the time she was ready to begin practical lessons.
Bon-Yi did not hesitate to question what he meant by "ready", reminding him that she had studied for years to become a Voss Mystic. He agreed that that was impressive, yet as they sat down he explained that her potential was not in question, only her mental state. As a former Sith, Lambert knew all too well how emotions could influence a Force-wielder's behavior and their connection to the Force, something that – to his knowledge – the Voss did not consider in their approach.
To begin her education, Bon-Yi learned what distinguished the Jedi from the Sith, namely the light and dark sides of the Force; the former achieved through calmness, inner peace and oneness with said Force, the latter through strong – usually negative – emotions, self-interest and aggressively dominating the connection between the energy field and the being tapping into it.
He warned her that the dark side – while offering powerful techniques quickly – was addictive and destructive, shortening the lifespan of those who relied on it and making it harder for them to stop the more they tapped into its power. Bon-Yi's anger and resentment placed her dangerously close to starting down that path before she even began any kind of training.
For several hours, Bon-Yi talked about her life on Voss at Lambert's urging, detailing the events of her pilgrimage, her feelings in the aftermath, making the best of an arranged marriage and losing the life she never wanted to the Eternal Empire, all in great detail – with some coaxing from Lambert.
Armed with her history, he showed Bon out onto the apartment's landing platform in the early hours of the morning to lead her through a guided meditation using the gentle whirring of the the city's speeder traffic as a focus.
Meditating through the dawn, Bon-Yi began to feel calmer and less irritable and found the experience surprisingly soothing in spite of her initial objections, easing her skepticism of Lambert. She returned every other night for the rest of the week to continue the meditation sessions – Lambert insisting that regular, solitary reflection was an important step in mastering one's own mind – and, bit by bit, was able to gradually dispel the negativity that hounded her, letting go of her bitterness and accepting that Voss was behind her now – along with the expectations of that life.
In the weeks that followed Lambert began to teach her to connect with and channel the Force as conventional Force users did, moving at a more brisk pace than the cautious lessons of the Jedi but slowly enough to allow Bon to fully understand and hone the essential techniques she was learning. In doing so, her teacher ensured she had a strong base from which to develop her abilities going forward.
Due to the emphasis on connecting with the Force in a way that was distinctly different from the techniques and rituals employed by the Voss, Bon developed a fresh perspective on the galaxy. She saw the world around her through new eyes, and in doing so saw a beauty that expunged her bitterness and resentment.
Ironically, this new outlook inspired the wandering Voss into deciding that she wanted a life she had never considered before reaching Corellia: a life without the Force, or rather a life in which the Force was not the singular focus of her life. Bon wished to be free of the burden of expectations – be they her own, or those of others.
By the time she had a solid understanding of telekinesis and its most basic applications – push and pull – Bon-Yi told Lambert she had decided she no longer wished to study the Force.
Instead, she intended to live life for herself and do what made her feel happy or fulfilled. Lambert, content to accept her choice, wished her well, furnishing her with a list of individuals he knew in and around Coronet and Tyrena who might have a job to offer her if she wished to remain on Corellia.
Bon-Yi bid Lambert farewell and left Tyrena none the wiser when it came to her place in the galaxy, but – although she did not yet know what kind of life would make her happy – she felt upbeat and optimistic for the first time in years. Wherever her choices led her, Bon was simply excited to be free to make them herself.
A Civilian Life[]
Coronet Zoo[]
Actually I might have something for you. What do you know about the Republic Strategic Information Service?"
"Nothing. Tell me.
—Benjamin and Bon-Yi, discussing job opportunities.
Thanks to Lambert's contacts and his assistance with recapturing a number of elusive specimens that had evaded capture after the Battle of Corellia in the Galactic War, Bon was able to successfully exploit her connection to him when she applied for a job as a security guard at the Coronet Zoo in early 25 ATC.
She settled in quickly and soon discovered that she enjoyed the simplicity of the work, finding the zoo a relaxing place to work and noting that animals had less "excitable" presences. As long as they were fed and watered and not ill-treated, they remained calm and content. The visitors to the zoo were similar: families bringing their children who, by-and-large, emitted only positive emotions that Bon found soothing.
Bon worked at the zoo for almost a year and a half, instinctively developing her Force abilities – specifically her talent for empathy – while spending time at the Drall Library outside of her work hours. Reading about the war and the history of wars between the Sith and Jedi caused Bon to feel increasingly obligated to do something to help stop the brutal invaders.
Due to her ability to pick up and transmit emotions with relative ease, Bon was often utilized in place of sedatives when the zoo's various occupants required medical checks and treatment. Initially her suggestion to use the Force instead of more costly medication was met with skepticism due to the nebulous and undocumented capabilities of Force users outside of the Jedi Order, but following the accidental death of a sand panther cub and the resulting aggression of its mother Bon was permitted to try and calm the creature as a last resort before it was put down.
Although she succeeded in comforting her, the sand panther never fully trusted its handler again, lacking the capacity to understand that the death of her cub had been accidental. Bon helped the handler in caring for the panther by taking over all duties that involved close or direct contact with the creature.
She came to care for the feline, viewing her as a pet more than a zoo specimen, and was deeply saddened when she passed away from sickness in the middle of 26 ATC. Bon decided to leave shortly after the creature's death, visiting Lambert once again to ask if he knew of a way she could make a living helping the war effort without participating directly in the conflict.
Lambert suggested that her natural inclination towards sensing emotions alongside the lessons he had taught her could prove insightful to the Republic Strategic Information Service. Furthermore, he explained that the Jedi were scattered and depleted in number, and out of those that remained many would be unwilling to attach to the SIS long-term, creating a niche for people like Bon to fill. Her empathy in particular could provide an amazing advantage when coupled with the experience and training of an SIS operative.
Bon was unsure about the idea and suspected her words would carry little weight. Despite her doubts, though, Lambert assured her that the SIS were looking for individuals just like her to trial a new, forward-thinking initiative intended to reduce the Republic's reliance on the Jedi Order. With a smirk, Lambert told Bon that he could not reveal anything more to someone without the necessary clearance.
Curious about the initiative and convinced it was worth looking into at the very least, Bon took the bait and gave Lambert the green light to set up a meeting with his contact in the SIS. Just over two weeks later, Bon had left her job at the zoo and found herself boarding a shuttle bound for Coruscant.
Joining the SIS[]
I'm putting together a group of specialists for an operation in neutral space. It's not front line work, but it'll have its own challenges, and dangers.
—Frank Pad.
Reporting to the Heorem Complex as soon as she arrived, Bon did not have to wait long until she was escorted to the office of an aged Human man, Bureau Chief Frank Pad.
Pad explained that he was recruiting Force users to complement SIS operations as part of a new initiative he was spearheading. His superiors were not convinced that his project could provide much of benefit, but with the Jedi Order scattered and dramatically thinned out due to decades of war Pad was certain the time was right for the Republic to stop relying on the Jedi Order and start utilizing Force users who were – historically – ostracized by a culture of Jedi-led intolerance.
Voss were a textbook case; Jedi viewed Voss with suspicion, believing them to have more in common with the Sith, a belief that Bon – he rightly pointed out – knew better than anyone to be untrue.
His hope was that by proving that Force users outside the Jedi Order could be utilized for the benefit of the Republic without Jedi oversight or meddling, future generations might not be beholden to the beliefs and restrictions of the Jedi and those with the Force might be integrated properly into Republic society.
To conclude his speech, Pad claimed that by utilizing individuals like Bon they could help stop the Empire's schemes in the present, even if it made no long-term difference to Republic society.
Bon was more interested in what she would be expected to do and how much she would be earning, an honesty Pad respected. Detailing payment, overtime policies and annual leave, Pad went on to explain that SIS agents had spent years operating on a neutral world called Voryle, an oppressive regime that profited from large orbital weapons factories. It sold to anyone willing to pay, including the Empire, and both factions had been trying to discredit the other discreetly by manipulating local politics in their favor.
Recently, the Republic's operation on Voryle had been decimated thanks to Sith involvement. Bon would be part of a team assisting the Special Agent in charge of the operation. Pad told her that – while it was not an open warzone – it still had the potential to be a dangerous assignment.
Bon-Yi was trained for danger, however, and despite her reservations decided to accept the job, beginning a fast-track training program created to provide the minimal, essential skills required by an SIS agent in a compressed time frame. It was during this training that Bon met former Republic soldier Bibi Jotto and retired Hutt Cartel enforcer Yagogg, who were also preparing for the same operation, as well as developing a passable understanding of Huttese.
Assigned to Voryle[]
The Cobbled Terentateks[]

We will be the Cobbled Terentateks. Mighty, dwelling on the periphery and most will never even be sure if we exist at all...
—Isla Ahnkett, officially forming the Cobbled Terentateks gang.
By early 27 ATC, Bon and her new teammates were transported to Voryle, passing through the invasive customs checkpoints that kept the city free of weapons and technology to rendezvous with the Republic's primary contact on the planet, the Mikkian Countess Patrice LaLenna – and her Trandoshan butler, Rissessk.
The trio were provided with accommodation paid for by the Countess and were briefed on local politics the day after they arrived, learning that the Sith Empire was using the Rabid Akks street gang to spread its ruthless influence through the city. Prime Minister Namos D'callo was deep in the Empire's pocket, and although there were almost certainly Sith directing the Akks and whispering in D'callo's ear, whoever it was had yet to be identified.
To combat the Akks, LaLenna would fund the formation of a street gang to recruit civilians from the oppressed masses who were suffering under the murderous control of the Empire's proxy. By creating a gang of their own they would have ground forces to defend their assets on the planet, ensuring Republic allies on the world could not be slaughtered en masse as they had been before.
Each of the three agents had specialist areas that they would oversee in the organisation; Bibi's military know-how would be put to use for overt engagements with the Rabid Akks, Yagogg's years in the underworld gave him insights into the varied needs and motivations of those who engaged in crime while Bon, with her ability to easily pick up on the emotions of others, would serve as a morale officer. If their allies had hidden secrets, concerns or fears, she would detect them and pass what she learned to Yagogg.
Additionally, her Force knowledge and abilities would allow her to train the recruits in defending against the powers of Sith opponents, should the need arise.
For security purposes neither the agents nor the Countess knew the identity of the Special Agent the SIS were sending to lead the operation, only that said individual was a Jedi. Not long after the trio arrived on the planet, they learned that the Jedi had arrived in critical condition, necessitating a lengthy stay in hospital, while a second Jedi had been arrested attempting to smuggle her disassembled lightsaber through customs.
Due to this complication the trio were forced to lay low and – discreetly – familiarize themselves with the city in the meantime, which included an introduction to LaLenna's ally, the Hutt Tabassa. Three months into the year they were finally contacted by Patrice and summoned to the backroom of a pub owned by Tabassa in the early hours of the morning, whereupon they met a blue-skinned alien woman named Isla Ahnkett, the Jedi who was to be their commander.
Cold and withdrawn, Isla was direct and professional, a quality that reminded Bon-Yi of her people and gave her a good initial impression of the Jedi. She also sported a crisp Imperial accent, which she attributed to her past as an infiltrator in Imperial space, eliminating high-ranking Imperial targets to sow confusion and disorder ahead of Republic attacks.
Isla was quickly brought up to speed on the situation in the city, with the group's focus being on Yonmouth South, the borough the Countess' estate was situated in and where they were currently positioned. Bibi suggested they attack a small target to begin generating attention from the civilians who might join them, but Isla dismissed the idea in favor of stealth, believing that with the Empire calling the shots drawing attention to themselves just made them easy targets, until they had forces to defend with.
To make matters worse, the government's dedication to keeping modern technology out of the hands of civilians – blasters included – meant acquiring weapons would take time, though Rissessk had taken the liberty of acquiring pistols and ammunition for each of them. Isla decided it was better to proceed cautiously, ordering the three lieutenants to continue to keep their heads down while she got her bearings and gave the matter of expansion further thought. She insisted that patience and anonymity were the keys to success in any intelligence operation.
Yagogg pointed out that they would need a name and a symbol, something for the commoners to believe in, rally behind and mark their territory with. Isla agreed, but seemed disinterested, quickly deciding on the name Cobbled Terentateks; after the cobbled streets of the city and – Bon learned – a rare monster created by the Sith that tended to live in remote caves and jungles, making it hard to find.
The Voss admitted, then, that it was an appropriate name. The group said their goodbyes and Bon left with Bibi and Yagogg while Isla and Rissessk returned to the Countess' estate.
Mystic Gangster[]

Isla Ahnkett, Bon-Yi's superior on Voryle.
I saw Yagogg. Wounded, Alone. Mystics see, but Interpreters decide. Will you interpret?
—Bon-Yi, to Isla, after experiencing a vision of Yagogg being attacked.
Thanks to Isla, the Cobbled Terentateks started strong with the assassination of the renowned pro-Imperial lawyer Ummin Cha Shyndatyriss, the humiliation – and subsequent resignation – of the Police Commissioner, the vindication and release of Isla's Jedi Master that followed and the capture of a train used by the Rabid Akks as a high-speed troop transport between boroughs.
The Jedi also brokered an agreement with Madam Quisselle of the Midnight Rose, reducing the influence of the Rabid Akks in Yonmouth South in exchange for assistance stealing a vault key from the bank manager of the Capital Bank of Voryle. Using that key, Isla infiltrated the bank and emptied the vault of one of the Prime Minister's wealthiest supporters, providing the gang with a massive influx of revenue.
After Isla came face to face with – and killed – a mutated, Force-enhanced Kkorrwrot, Bon-Yi began training all members of the Cobbled Terentateks in the advantages offered by the Force to allow them to better anticipate the abilities of Sithspawn used against them in future.
Later in the year, Bon-Yi experienced her first vision of the future. Confused by the fact she had a vision at all and with the laws of the Voss Mystics still lingering the back of her mind, she consulted Isla, asking her to serve as an Interpreter, even though the vision was clear – Yagogg was in trouble and needed help. Thanks to Bon's vision, however, Isla reached Yagogg and saved him from an ambush, leaving Bon feeling very proud.
Isla went on to kill one of the Sith commanders leading the Rabid Akks, Artem Phond, but in doing provoked Lord Sera Artofen's rage as Phond was her longtime friend and companion: the Rabid Akks immediately stepped up their aggression in the aftermath.
Bon was present aboard the Cobbled Terentateks' mobile headquarters when Lord Artofen unleashed a colossal Sithspawn on the city, sending it after the gang's leadership while Isla was distracted rescuing Zhavi from enemy territory. The train was torn from its tracks and swung around by the Sith beast, but Isla was able to return in time to draw its attention, whereupon it dropped the train and its occupants, injuring all of them.
None of the lieutenants received serious injuries, however, and after escaping the wreckage they worked long into the night to pull wounded civilians from the wreckage of the city, ensuring those in critical condition were transported to hospital as soon as possible. Bon and her companions continued to provide aid to those worst hit by the attack over the next few days, stopping only when the time came for the Cobbled Terentateks to finish the Rabid Akks and finally eliminate Lord Artofen.
Bon-Yi accompanied Bibi, Yagogg, Rissessk and Samantha – Isla's friend and the Prime Minister's daughter – to the embassy of Magenta Sparrow Innovations, the Sith-led technology company that served as the Empire's base of operations on Voryle. Bolstered by Zhavi's battle meditation, Isla used her stealth abilities to sneak behind enemy lines as the rest of the gang engaged the Rabid Akk forces outside, slowly pushing their way into the building.
While the remaining gangsters were overwhelmed and forced to scatter and flee, Artofen had a second line of defense inside the embassy. Confronted by a mutated Vixian Mauler from the shadowy world of Umbara, the group had to work together to whittle away at the monster, gradually wearing it down until it finally succumbed to its numerous injuries.
During the fight, Bibi took Rissessk's sword and rushed ahead to help Isla, believing she could help her in her confrontation with Lord Artofen. Sadly, by the time the rest of the gangsters arrived Lord Artofen was gone, leaving the group to watch as Bibi – fatally wounded by Artofen's lightsaber – died in Isla's arms. Bon-Yi was able to sense how Isla had tweaked her memories and created new ones, ensuring Bibi passed away peacefully, unaware that she was dying in her final moments.
Thanks to Isla, Prime Minister D'callo was dead, the Rabid Akks were all but annihilated and the Sith were driven back to Imperial space, with the collaborators in the government being arrested and removed from office. Countess LaLenna used her renewed political clout to push for Samantha to become interim Prime Minister, and as the city began to recover with the gang's help, the leaders took some time out to relax and celebrate their victory.
Bon-Yi – along with her friends – arranged and attended Bibi's funeral, though Isla did not join for the service. Shortly after the funeral, the gang were briefed about the situation going forwards, learning that Jedi healer Sophia Sofora and agent Carth Waverunner would be stepping in to replace Isla and Zhavi, the former to lend her skills to those wounded during the chaos and the latter to head the operation now that the political situation was secure.
The group bid farewell to Isla and Zhavi, wishing them well and waving them off as they boarded their ship to return to Coruscant for reassignment.
Personality and Traits[]
You clearly admired your mother. Aspired to live up to her example, even. Tell me more about her."
"She was a Mystic."
"Mm, but what was she like, exactly? Beyond the visions and the title."
"She was Voss.
—Benjamin attempting to learn about Bon-Yi's mother.
Like all Voss, Bon-Yi was reserved and inexpressive, rarely displaying her emotions publicly and reserving emotional expression for her family. Prior to her pilgrimage, she was quite proud, bordering on arrogant after she was singled out as a potential Mystic. She came to believe she had an important destiny ahead of her.
However, after being denied the chance to complete the trials of the Mystics at the Shrine of Healing she regularly expressed her anger to her parents – especially her mother – as well as her husband Alk-Yi, becoming obsessed with what she saw as a personal attack.
Following the death of her family and her subsequent departure from Voss, Bon-Yi became bitter and irritable, often displaying her impatience with those she worked with on Port Nowhere in stark contrast with her behaviour during her life on Voss. Thanks to her consistently poor attitude she engendered a reputation as an unpleasant workaholic with no time for anything or anyone outside of her work.
In the aftermath of her brief education under Benjamin and employment at Coronet Zoo, Bon-Yi became much more contented with her life, realizing that she was not destined for greatness – and that there was nothing wrong with that.
Due to her aptitude for Force empathy, Bon-Yi benefited from the positive environment her job at the zoo provided, keeping her calm and optimistic throughout her employment, though this calmness led to a return to the stereotypical reticence of the Voss. She was seen as uncommunicative and regarded as difficult to talk to as a result.
Her time on Voryle saw her become far more open and sociable through her friendships with Bibi Jotto and Yagogg, who she worked with almost constantly for most of 27 ATC. Bibi in particular was aggressively friendly, which influenced Bon-Yi through her empathy ability. Bibi provided an emotional outlet for Bon-Yi that she had been bottling up since the death of her family.
This openness wore down at the social conditioning she had been subjected to on Voss and caused her to become openly expressive – both with positive and negative emotions – with friends and associates, in keeping with the norm across most of the Galactic Republic.
As a direct consequence, Bon-Yi found happiness through the relationships she built and chose to stay on Voryle long-term, where she became well-regarded by the local community not only for her work, but also her cheerful demeanor, helpful nature and her willingness to gossip about local events.
Visitors to Voryle who had met other Voss before her commented that she was "not like other Voss", an observation she considered to be complimentary.
Physical Appearance[]
You always look beautiful to me.
—Carth, to Bon-Yi.
To most non-Voss, Bon-Yi looked nearly indistinguishable from other females of her species, sporting patterned red skin and the distinctive, webbed blue eyes that made the Voss so striking to other Humanoids. Similarly, she shared her species' universal lack of hair, comparative tallness compared to Humans and lean figure, even after the dietary changes that followed her departure from Voss-Ka.
Carth Waverunner often complimented Bon-Yi on her appearance, though she noted most individuals she encountered had a tendency to stare, either out of curious fascination or xenophobic discomfort.
Powers and abilities[]
I sense emotions and secrets. It is useful. Sometimes sad, sometimes happy.
—Bon-Yi on her talent for Force empathy.
Being a prospective Mystic, Bon had a propensity for visions unique to her species. Having not faced the Mystics trials that potential remained untapped, yet like all Force users she was still able to experience visions from time to time. Unlike other Voss, though, Bon's visions did not concern the continued prosperity of Voss-Ka and its people.
Thanks to her training with the SIS, Bon possessed a basic understanding of slicing, along with a flawed – but passable – ability to understand and speak Huttese.
Where she was naturally skilled was in her talent for picking up the emotions of those around her, an ability she noticed and honed while working at Coronet Zoo thanks to the lessons she had learned from Benjamin. She was also capable of using basic Force abilities due to his training, such as moving objects using telekinesis.
Equipment and Weapons[]
Blasters are easier.
