Boba Fett was a clone Human male bounty hunter who eventually accepted his Mandalorian heritage and led the Mandalorian Protectors during the Imperial Sith War.

Cloned from the bounty hunter Jango Fett, Boba Fett took on his father's armor after he was killed during the Battle of Geonosis at the start of the Clone Wars and proceeded to make a name for himself, mentored by Aurra Sing. By the time of the Imperial Period, Fett had gained a reputation as one of the best bounty hunters in the galaxy, leading to him being hired by the Galactic Empire on multiple occasions.

After capturing Han Solo at Cloud City, Fett delivered him to the crime lord Jabba the Hutt only for Solo's friends to rescue him. During the following confrontation, Fett was knocked into the Great Pit of Carkoon and believed to have been eaten by the sarlacc. However, he was able to escape and returned to working as a bounty hunter, although the number of imposters that had arisen in the meantime made reports of his survival something of a myth among others.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Born on Kamino, Boba Fett was created as the unaltered clone "son" of the Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett as part of an agreement Jango had with Darth Tyranus for his DNA to be used to create a Grand Army of the Republic. Living with his father on Kamino, Fett frequently missed his father whenever Jango left for a job he had been hired for.[2]

In 22 BBY, Fett accompanied his father to the planet Geonosis to meet with Count Dooku and the Separatist leaders. During the ensuing battle, Jango Fett was killed by Jedi Master Mace Windu and a mournful Fett fled from Geonosis with his father's armor and starship, the Slave I, vowing revenge against the Jedi.[2]

Bounty hunter[]

Seeking revenge[]

Following the Battle of Geonosis, Fett was retrieved by Aurra Sing and brought to Count Dooku on Raxus Prime. Having no desire to serve under Dooku, Fett fled from Raxus Prime during a Republic attack and was eventually picked up by Republic forces, who took him to an orphanage on Bespin. After escaping Bespin with the help of Aurra Sing, Fett decided to become a bounty hunter, hoping to one day take revenge against Mace Windu for killing his father.[3]

At some point during the Clone Wars, Fett ended up in the custody of the Hutt crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure, who decided to take in the young bounty hunter as repayment for his father Jango killing Jabba's rival Gardulla Besadii the Elder. The first target Jabba gave Fett was the Neimoidian slaver Gilramos Libkath, whom Fett successfully eliminated.[4]

Fett continued to perform jobs for Jabba the Hutt while working on his goal of getting revenge on Mace Windu. Upon meeting the Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker on Xagobah after an encounter with Asajj Ventress, Fett claimed to have important information on Count Dooku that he would only give to Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, convincing Skywalker to take him to Coruscant. After being escorted to Coruscant by Governor Tarkin, Fett crossed paths with Windu and engaged the Jedi Master in combat. However, before he could kill Windu, Chancellor Palpatine intervened and spoke with the young bounty hunter privately. Fett informed him that Dooku was in fact the Sith Lord Darth Tyranus, only to learn that Palpatine already knew this. The Chancellor then paid him for his efforts and sent him on his way, swearing him to secrecy.[5]

An infamous reputation[]

At the end of the Clone Wars, the Galactic Empire rose in place of the Republic and Boba Fett would accept many jobs from the Imperials, often working with the Sith Lord Darth Vader, who was in fact the Jedi he had met back on Xagobah.[5]

Around 15 BBY, he fathered a daughter named Ailyn with the Kiffar bounty hunter Sintas Vel, though the couple would soon part ways.[6]

Capturing Han Solo[]

In 3 ABY, Boba was among the six bounty hunters hired to track down the Millennium Falcon and was successful in doing so, leading the Empire to Bespin. As part of Boba's deal with Vader, the Falcon's captain Han Solo was frozen in carbonite so that Fett could deliver him to Jabba the Hutt.[7]

After a successful delivery, Fett remained at Jabba's palace on Tatooine and was present when a group of rebels, led by the Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker, infiltrated the palace to rescue Solo. While the rebels were successful in freeing Solo from carbonite, Jabba the Hutt had them captured and prepared them for execution at the Pit of Carkoon. In the conflict that ensued, Boba Fett clashed with Skywalker only for Solo to accidentally set off his jet pack, sending Fett plummeting into the sarlacc pit.[8]

Back from the dead[]

Thought dead, Boba Fett was eventually able to escape from the sarlacc pit, though the effort left him weak and tired.[9] He was soon found by Dengar and Manaroo and the couple nursed him back to health.[10][11]

With most of the galaxy still believing Fett to be dead, the bounty hunter used this to his advantage and took to flying the Slave II, a different model of ship, while only taking jobs from discreet clients. When a bounty hunter by the name of Jodo Kast began parading around in Mandalorian armor similar to Fett's, Boba Fett tracked him down and killed him in order to maintain his reputation.[12]

Around 9 ABY, Fett was hired by Mayor Mok Shaiz of Mos Espa to kill Bib Fortuna. The former majordomo of Jabba the Hutt had survived the destruction of his master's sail barge and had taken over what remained of the Hutt's criminal empire on Tatooine. Having never liked Fortuna, Fett accepted the job and traveled to Tatooine. However, this turned out to be a trap set up by both Mayor Shaiz and Fortuna as Fett was quickly overwhelmed by Fortuna's enforcers. After defeating him, they dumped him back into the Great Pit of Carkoon, putting him in the same spot he had been in five years ago.

While Fett was ultimately able to break free once more, the effort left him tired and he passed out in the Dune Sea. He was later found by wandering Jawas who stripped him of his armor and left him for dead. He was then found by a passing Tusken Raider tribe and they brought him to their camp as their prisoner. After spending some time with the tribe, Fett managed to gain their trust and convinced them to let him free after helping them deal with a raid by members of the Pyke Syndicate.

After leaving the Tusken Raider tribe, Fett wandered the Dune Sea on his own before coming across the frontier town Mos Pelgo. The marshal of the town, Cobb Vanth, had come into possession of Fett's armor and was wearing it himself while enforcing the laws of the frontier town.

Mand'alor[]

Fourteen years later, Fett had returned to bounty hunting and tracked down the Mandalorian leader Fenn Shysa to the planet Shogun. During their encounter, Shysa was mortally wounded while saving Fett's life from an unspecified threat. In his dying breath, Shysa asked Fett to finally embrace his Mandalorian heritage and to take on the mantle of Mand'alor as his father Jango had seventy years ago. After taking some time to contemplate this, Fett eventually decided to fulfill Shysa's request and took leadership of the Mandalorian Protectors on Mandalore, who eagerly accepted him.

Approximately two years later, during the war between the New Republic and the Sith of Darth Vorath, Han Solo was sent to Mandalore to propose an alliance between the New Republic and the Mandalorian Protectors. While Solo was initially displeased to see Fett, whom he long thought to be dead, the two men were forced to put their grievances aside when they were ambushed by the Snatchers. After a brief struggle, Fett agreed to lend his fellow Mandalorians in the war against the Sith and would later participate in the Battle of Coruscant.[13][14]

Ten years later, the Mandalorian Protectors were asked to help the New Republic once more against a new threat: the invading Glorian Empire. Although Fett's confidant Atinar Cabur was spiteful of the New Republic for never repaying the Mandalorians' services in the Imperial Sith War, Fett ultimately agreed to ally with the New Republic once more, much to Atinar's chagrin. This decision soon spurred Atinar to resurrect the organization Death Watch and began plotting to remove Fett from power and bring about a change of direction for Mandalore.[15]

While Atinar and his followers plotted, Boba Fett began to fall ill, something which he hid from even his closest advisors. Traveling to Vohai to see Taun We, the Kamino scientist who had helped raise him, Fett learned that he was suffering from a natural degradation that most clones—even unmodified ones such as himself—were susceptible to. Realizing that he did not have much longer to live, Fett reconciled with his granddaughter Mirta Gev before setting out to find his estranged wife Sintas Vel, who had gone missing in the years since he had left her. Tracking her down to Phaeda, Fett and Mirta found Sintas frozen in carbonite and were about to bring her back to Mandalore when they were confronted by Kadar. The rogue Mandalorian bounty hunter, who had been coerced by Death Watch to assassinate Fett, warned the Mandalorian leader of the plot against him.[1]

Returning to Mandalore, Fett oversaw Sintas being released from carbonite. After a brief yet emotional reunion with his family, Fett left with Kadar before asking the latter to kill him, knowing that the effects of the clone degradation would only make both him and his family members suffer. A reluctant Kadar acquiesced to Fett's request and euthanized him with a syringe Fett had given him, ending the life of the once-notorious bounty hunter.[1]
